OOTD – No Fireworks Fourth

This was the 1st year that we didn’t pile into the car to go see the annual 4th of July Fireworks in Middletown.  We usually leave home at dusk to drive to Friendly’s where we parked, ate ice cream and oooh and aaahed at the sky being lit up by fireworks a few miles away.  There were 2 reasons for not going this year, the most important one being that Friendly’s caught fire the week before and burned to the ground and secondly, we just didn’t feel like going, we’ve seen enough fireworks at Disney to last a lifetime.

However,  in keeping with some traditions Tayair and I wore  RED, WHITE  &  BLUE, and Malik wore a T-Shirt in memory of Andre Smith the HS Football Player killed in a car accident over Spring Break.  I did watch some of the Macy’s fireworks on TV and oooh and aaah at their sky being lit up without having to fight traffic to get home.

RIP Andre Smith

OOTD – Monday Morning Blue

No makeup, heels or jewelry, only shorts/tanks, sandals and a bathing suit for 5 wonderful, sun-filled days. Whether it’s called a VACATION or STAYCATION, living “the Life of Riley” is a beautiful thing. Sleeping in late; eating breakfast on the back deck; poolside lounging; laughing with and loving family and friends was the perfect way to spend the long July 4th Holiday. It was also the first time that we did not go out to watch fireworks, I did however, watch Wawa Welcome America and loved Lauryn Hill’s surprise performance. I was also able to watch more of the Twilight Zone Marathon, “Time Enough At Last” with Burgess Meredith is my favorite episode! I did do a little yard work and paid the price with my annual case of poison ivy – oh how I hate the itch!!!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend and now it’s back to reality!

OOTD – TGIT!

Thank Goodness It’s Tuesday – which is officially my Friday at least as far as work is concerned.  After today I will have the next 3 days off from work, no 3 hour daily commuting in rush hour traffic until Monday the 9th – oh happy day!

I plan on spending most of my staycation lounging poolside eating, drinking, and reading.  I’ll throw in a little housework, movie watching and napping to round things out – lol.

I hope you and yours have a fun-filled and safe 4th.

OOTD – Monday Maxi

I am counting down my 2-day work week, I so love when a holiday falls in the middle of the week. Today I threw on something cool, comfortable and wrinkle-free, a spaghetti strap maxi covered with a tank top. Can you tell I am ready for my 5-day staycation!!

OOTD – Baby Boy Blues

On Saturday after the power was restored the men and I jumped into the car and drove to New Rochelle, NY for a cousin’s Baby Shower.  Nothing makes you more aware of your own aging until your “baby” cousins start having babies, in this case having her 2nd – a boy!  My cousin was just a toddler when she danced at our wedding and now she has her own dancing toddler.  Traffic on the Jersey Turnpike and GW Bridge was terrible and we got a little lost but once we arrived it was  a fun, fun family affair.  I was also able to see my “friend-for-life” and hopefully this weekend she and her friend will be stopping in Delaware so we can do some more catching up.

I love my family and had a great time – Congratulations and God Bless India and Mike!

Do you hear the theme song from “Taxi”?

What's In Your China Closet?

We had a major storm Friday night that knocked out the power so Saturday morning the house was quiet. No tv noise in the background and thankfully Malik’s laptop battery had died as well. He and his father decided to play a game of chess. The board was removed from where it sat for a very long time and I noticed a lot of dust, so I added dusting to my list of chores.
I have a China Closet in the living room which my grandmother had restored and given to me as a gift. I decided to open it up and dust all of the little knick knacks inside and pics of my ancestors on top. There are so many memories inside of this China Closet, I even thought about pulling out the photo albums but then the electricity came back on!
