PRODUCT REVIEW – bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 2.0

I was gifted a product sample of bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 2.0, for being a “Beauty Ambassador” for *Ladies Home Journal.  Now for the life of me I don’t remember signing up to become an “Ambassador“, but glad that I did because you know I like to get things FREE!

Ladies Home Journal Magazine

I am not a beauty expert nor have I ever claimed to be, but I’ve been known to try new products and then share my opinion, usually an Avon product because that’s what I sell.  So when I get free samples in the mail or from magazines I like to try them as an alternative to my Avon products.  The bareMinerals Eyeshadow READY 2.0, is a duo palette, “PAGE SIX” is a light pink shade and “MOST REQUESTED” is a darker burgundy both contain iridescent sparkles.  I swatched each color onto my arm and found them to be smooth in application as well as a complimentary color for my complexion.

I primed my eye lids before applying and chose my version of the Smokey Eye look.  Used an elf Angled Couture Eyeshadow brush for “PAGE SIX” and the Blending Eye Brush for “MOST REQUESTED”

The bareMinerals Eyeshadow went on smoothly with no dusting or falling flakes

Product wore well throughout the day and looked just as fresh at 3:00 p.m. as it did when first applied at 7:00 am

OOTD – Zebra Stripes and Tiger Orange

Hello Friends and Happy March Eve!

Can you believe today is the last day of February?  I am taking a PTO day off from work and will be attending an event later at The Money School of Delaware.  Yesterday started out wet and rainy so I just wore black slacks, a zebra print top and flats then added an orange belt to break up the black and white.  It wasn’t fashionable just comfy Corporate casual – what do you think?

OOTD 2 27 13 001

The orange purse was purchased from Charmingly Linda’s Consignment Shop and I tied a multi-color scarf around the handles.

OOTD 2 27 13 002

I was going to wear the single bracelet that I made in my DYI post (here), but decided to add a few wooden bangles to the zebra print ones that I had in my jewelry box

I used orange nail polish to cover a silver ring – another DYI

OOTD – I Love OLIVES

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday.

Yeah yeah yeah, we are on the down stroke to the weekend!  I really have to stop rushing my life away, every day is a new day to be cherished and savored, but ding dang dong it – I LOVE THE WEEKENDS!!!

I also love OLIVES, I love the color OLIVE and I love the vegetable… or is it a fruit…OLIVES …hey…in what food group is an OLIVE?

I do know that olives are a staple in the Mediterranean diet which has been scientifically confirmed that it reduces the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases by 30 percent and is great for people trying to lose weight.  I only cook with light Virgin Olive Oil, have used it as a hair care product and if I drank Martinis I would do it only for the OLIVES!

OOTD – The Posh.mina

Hello Friends and Happy Tuesday.

I hope you had a nice weekend and that your Monday was productive and stress free.

My weekend was nice starting with attending the C.O.D.E. Conference on Saturday, which was an awesome event for small business owners.  Does your city or state provide free conferences or seminars for the advancement of their small business owners?

Sunday I didn’t attend church instead lounged around getting some much needed R&R and then afternoon shopping with my son which was a rare treat for me, he’s at the age when being with mom is not cool.  I remember praying for a boy each time I was pregnant, but sometimes I wish I had a girl to shop with especially now that my grandmother is no longer with me.  She and I loved to hang out…shopping for bargains…eating out …laughing…just having fun…I really miss her, which is why I started blogging.

This morning I heard birds chirping and the weather has been so mild.  With little to no significant snow I’m hoping Mother Nature isn’t trying to lull us into a false sense of “it’s Spring”!  Remember the catch phrase, “it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature”, well I hope she reciprocates.

Today I am wearing the Posh.mina that I reviewed (here) last month and because it’s one of my favorite colors it will definitely become a closet staple in high rotation.

C.O.D.E. Conference

On Saturday The Money School of Delaware held it’s annual C.O.D.E. Conference for National Entrepreneurship Week at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.   This FREE event was held to give guidance to the small business community in the state of Delaware.

The doors opened at 8:00 am, and after completing a registration form you received a reusable shopping bag courtesy of Shoprite.  Attendees then entered the Riverfront Ballroom where over 30 exhibitors including the SBA, SCORE, PNC Bank, Wells Fargo, DEDO, Traci Lynn Jewelry and the YWCA had tables that showcased their products/services as well as items for sale or small giveaways.

On this cold and rainy morning the hot coffee and danish was a welcomed delight, but for each of the attendees all of various ages and ethnic backgrounds they delighted in a common goal; to obtain information and guidance to make their small business more successful.  Small businesses are the engine that drives the economy in Delaware and if they are successful, we are all successful.

The conference was kicked off by Mary Caracciolli, The Money Confidant, who emphasized that the day wasn’t about networking but about meeting people, building relationships and doing something for someone else.  Opening remarks were made by Lt. Governor Matt Denn, a major supporter of education in the state.  Chase was the #1 sponsor of C.O.D.E. and Daryl Graham spoke about the importance of supporting small businesses.  Ken Anderson, a DEDO rep stated that small businesses have created the most net new jobs in the state of Delaware.  State Treasurer Chip Flowers was also in attendance and video remarks were given by Governor Jack Markell and U.S Senator Chris Coons.

Judy Travis, Founder of Stockings for Soldiers Delaware spoke of how passion drives your business and presented a slide show.  Last year, over 10 thousand packages containing 47 thousand stockings were made and shipped thanks to the many volunteers who devoted their time.  Volunteers in this effort included students from elementary schools to members of Senior Citizen centers, but donations and volunteers are always needed.  One of the major rewards in volunteering for this program is knowing you are improving the morale of our troops serving overseas.

There were two sets of morning sessions from which to choose that began at 9:30 am: Business Start-up 101, and Run Your Business, Don’t Let It Run You.  The next two sessions started at 11:00 am: The Business of Your Business and Service…Your Secret Weapon To Success!

I sat in briefly in all 4 sessions and found them to be very informative, enlightening and one was quite entertaining.  Ellyn and Robert of SBA and SCORE started their session by having everyone stand and sing along to the song “Good night, I Gotta Feeling”, by The Black Eye Peas, it was a great way to rev up the brain cells.

speakers

A light lunch of pizza, and snacks were provided before the final General Session, “Understanding Social Media”, presented by Eric Holtzclaw, Founder and Chief Strategist of Laddering Works, LLC.  Using a PowerPoint presentation Eric highlighted the various groups of social media users; discussed understanding social media and how it makes an impact on today’s business.

Audience participation with questions followed, several asking how social media impacts their small businesses and why it was important to brand themselves on the Internet.  Social Media whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Google+, is here to stay however, the advice of only using what is comfortable was the underlying message from Eric.

The conference ended with the awarding of Door Prizes ranging from a $100 gift card to autographed copies of Eric’s new book, Laddering: Unlocking the Potential of Consumer Behavior.  Overall, it was a great event for anyone with or who is thinking about starting a small business in the state of Delaware.  Kudos to the staff of The Money School for all their hard work and effort that made this yet another successful event.

Duct Tape DIY

Hello Friends, I hope your Friday night is winding down and you are fine as wine…cheers…clink!

I was cleaning out my DIY supply drawer and found a roll of Zebra Print duct tape that was purchased from Dollar General and decided to do a quick project.

I covered a bracelet to wear with my Mossimo flats from Target.

OOTD – Fun Feet Friday

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay !

In the early 2000’s, I had a job that permitted me to work from home on Fridays and I enjoyed dressing down in jeans and slippers. I no longer have that job nor the luxury of working from home on Fridays, but it hasn’t stopped me from dressing down in jeans and slippers shoes!

Image Image

I am almost head to toe Mossimo, even having a little fun changing the footwear this morning.  These shoes are part of my Target haul (here) and I want you to guess which pair made it to work today.

Image Image Image

The cardigan sweater is from Ross and accessories from my jewelry box.

Image Image

Which ones would you have chosen, the embellished flats or the Cap Toe heels?

Image Image

Oh, BTW, this is the first time attempting a serious pattern mix – what do you think – Yay or Nay??

OOTD – Totally Thrifted Throwback Thursday

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!

I was born in 1961, so it seems strange to use the term “throwback” when referring to the 1980’s, but it is. Today’s outfit is totally thrifted from GW Boutique (Goodwill) but from two different decades. The blue and white Houndstooth blazer was thrifted in 1989, which you can probably tell by the Dynasty/Falcon Crest shoulder pads. Remember when they introduced Dianne Carroll as Dominique Deveraux; or the pool fight scene or the first time the “B” word was used, or when they went crazy after Rock Hudson revealed he had AIDS? Man oh Manischewitz, that was definitely some “must see TV!”

Image Image Image

The skirt and shoes were just thrifted last year however, the styles make them look a little dated as well.  The white shell earrings were purchased at Rehoboth Beach also in the ’80’s and match the buttons on the blazer.

OOTD – Crazy Commuters

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday, we’re on the down stroke to the weekend!

Yesterday after work I stopped for gas, paid $3.67/gallon, getting just enough to get home or to a cheaper station. This morning it was $3.69! It’s times like these that I miss living in New York and taking public transportation. Delaware has DART Bus service but I would rather drive than risk being hit over the head with a gun for a bite of sandwich – don’t believe me…it happened on Monday, read the article here

Do you ever drive around burning gas looking for cheaper gas – crazy right!  If I did commute to work on public transportation this Merona tote would be perfect to carry.  It’s not as though I have a lot but if I did, it’s very roomy.  It could also be used an an overnight bag, what do you think?

Image Image

Animal Print booties were purchased last year on clearance at Deb Shop and the pantsuit is from the back of the closet – the shoulder pads dates it.  Worthington scoop neck top was $4 from JC Penney and Merona tote was part of my shoe haul from Target.
