Football Sunday should be filled with family, fun and food but that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck in the kitchen all day long prepping the meal. Some Sundays before heading to Church I’ll fill the Crock Pot with chicken breasts or thighs, add a sauce then top with some frozen veggies so that when I get home, I can sit back and relax with my son and hubby.
I am not a football fan so while they are watching the game I can read the Sunday paper or work on my blog but usually I am sitting back enjoying the aroma coming from the Crock Pot in the kitchen. Last month before the game between the Eagles and the Giants#FlyEaglesFly (BTW The Eagles beat the Giants 27 to 7!) I used a package of McCormick Slow Cookers Sweet and Smokey Pulled Chicken seasoning and 4 chicken breasts to create these awesome slow cooked chicken sliders with homemade coleslaw.
1 package McCormickSlow Cookers Sweet and Smokey Pulled Chicken
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 lbs of chicken breasts
According to package instructions, mix together McCormick seasoning, ketchup and brown sugar. Put chicken breasts into Crock Pot and cover with mixture and cook on high for 4 hours.
If you want to give it a little kick, add some Tabasco or Hot Sauce. After chicken has cooked, shred it using two forks then put some onto slider rolls and top with cheese or coleslaw.
I made my coleslaw using a 1/2 package of pre-made Classic Coleslaw, to which I stirred in a little mayonnaise, Apple Cider vinegar and a sprinkling of sugar then topped each slider which gave them a crispy crunch.
Chicken Sliders Served with Hot Apple Cider
I am glad that McCormick finally came out with a Pulled Chicken seasoning pack as I had previously used the Pulled Pork seasoning however, I found it to be a bit overwhelming for chicken.
Have you tried any of the McCormick Slow Cooked Seasonings?
Every day, an estimate of 432 billion cells in your body die. Those cells are then replaced by other cells during your body’s natural regeneration process. The quality of these new cells is based on the quality of materials they have to create themselves.
You have control over whether or not the cells will have the proper food and nutrition they need in order to regenerate properly. The healthier your cells, the younger and healthier you look. Below are some tips to ensure that your cells have the proper nutrients, as well as other beauty tips to help you stay young.
Maintain a healthy body weight – A healthy body weight will lower your risk for many diseases, help you feel better, and give you more energy.
Drink lots of water – Water has many benefits including balancing body fluids, energizing muscles, and keeping skin young and healthy.
Eat less sugar – Sugar can depress the immune system making you more susceptible to disease.
Drink less caffeine – Caffeine dehydrates the body and depletes calcium, magnesium and phosphorus levels.
Eat your vegetables – Vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that protect the body from disease and aging.
Eat more fruit – Fruit is also full of vitamins and minerals essential to the overall health of the body.
Eat smaller portions – Eating less calories lowers the production of T3, a hormone that slows metabolism.

Just make sure its the right kind – Fats and oils can stress the digestive system and raise cholesterol levels.
Eat more fiber – Fiber helps to slow down digestion, helping you feel full longer but also helps food move through the digestive system quicker.
Drink green tea – Green tea is full of antioxidants that help rejuvenate skin cells, heal scrapes and bruises, and protect against sun damage.
Don’t smoke – Smoking not only causes premature skin aging, but it destroys cilia in your lungs, keeping dirt, pollution, and chemicals trapped in your lungs.
Reduce alcohol intake – Alcohol inhibits communication signals in the brain, depresses the nervous system, and inhibits bone marrow’s ability to regenerate new blood cells.
Moisturize your face – Whether you have oily or dry skin, moisturizer is necessary to hydrate your skin and keep the moisture in balance.
Moisturize your neck – Because most people forget to moisturize their neck, it tends to age faster than the rest of their face.
Exfoliate– Exfoliation rids the skin of dry skin cells, creating a healthy, smooth appearance.
Remove makeup every night – Not removing your makeup daily can dry out your skin, block and stretch pores, and deepen wrinkles.

Be extravagant sometimes – Treating yourself to something special can make you feel important.
Don’t feel sorry for yourself– Focusing on the negative will make you unhappy, increasing stress and anxiety.
Believe in yourself – Seeing problems as challenges rather than setbacks helps us feel empowered, allowing us to accomplish more and feel younger.
Be Beautiful with Avon
Take the time to be beautiful– Taking the time to get ready in the morning will make you feel better about yourself for the rest of the day.
Never say you are “too old” – Saying you are too old for something creates a self-fulfilling prophecy that will make you become as “old” as you act.

Go outside– Fresh air reduces stress, boosts the immune system, and energizes our bodies.
Take your time with life– Fast paced lives are often stressful. Slow down and take the time to relax.
Avoid using mobility aids unless necessary – Depending on mobility aids actually weakens our body’s natural ability to move.
Read 15 minutes a day – Reading can make you feel calm, improve your memory and can lessen your chances of developing Alzheimer’s.
Learn something new every day – Learning makes you feel young and alive. It also keeps your mind active and slows the degeneration of the mind.
Reduce Screen Time – Reduced screen time increases brain performance and boost the quality of sleep.
Don’t act your age – Do something that you are “too old to do”; play on a playground, hike a mountain, or get a popsicle. You are only as old as you feel.
Past the Christiana Mall heading South before Route 273.
Friday night, as I walked through the door after meeting with a new client, Sandra P., owner of SPJFitnessPlus I heard my husband on the phone having a FaceTime conversation with our son, who was on the side of the road, in the dark with a flat tire.
He having never experienced this, his first reaction was to call 911 and then AAA.
The thought of my son on the side of the road in the dark, my mind immediately raced to the headlines of the most recent murder of Corey Jones in Florida by an under cover police officer as he too waited for Roadside assistance. The second thought was that of Ennis Cosby, who was also murdered along the side of the road as he was changing a flat tire in 1997. The Delaware State Trooper who was dispatched to the scene was there before my husband and I arrived and he waited to ensure our son was alright before being called elsewhere. However, not more than 10 minutes had passed after we pulled up did another Delaware State Trooper arrive who had obviously been contacted because he offered to speak to AAA dispatch to make sure they had the correct location of the stranded vehicle.
Still waiting for the AAA driver, we 3 huddled together under the umbrella because it had started to rain, then my husband commented that he never knew that State Troopers would stay with a motorist who simply had a flat tire. I was grateful that they each did because the cars were flying up Route 1 so fast that I felt safer standing outside the vehicle than sitting inside it.
Standing next to my son like a mama bear protecting her cub even though this cub is 23, I was thankful for him and for his safety. Unfortunately, I didn’t take time to thank the Trooper who stayed and waited with us until we were safely on our way; so this post is dedicated to both of the Delaware State Troopers who were dispatched to the scene of a disabled motorist on Route 1 South, Friday, 11/6/2015 at 7:00 p.m.
I don’t know about you, but I am truly enjoying this time of the year, what is normally called Indian Summer. Friday was an absolutely gorgeous day once the fog lifted so short sleeves were definitely the call for the day.
Autumn attire with it’s vibrant colors, patterns and prints should always include a little Animal Print which is why I love these Jessica Simpson Peep Toe pumps. They are by far one of the best Consignment Shop finds that I have ever purchased.
Would you believe that the rest of the outfit, excluding the earrings and bracelets was also thrifted from Goodwill…yes, the purse…the skirt…and the top #totallythrifted – gotta love it!
Saturday it rained, so I took a few bags and boxes of clothing and household items to be donated to Goodwill then picked up a few sweaters. Stay tuned for a mini-haul vlog, #DonateStuffCreateJobs
Oh and speaking of Indian Summer, have you started preparing your harvest menu for the holidays? Early Friday morning, hubby and I stopped in at Dutch Country Farmer’s Market in Middletown. I saw some of thefreshest and most colorful fruits and veggies of the season on display at Snyder’s Produce, my mouth was watering!
I cannot wait to make a few batches of “good ole homemade” soup with some of these beauties and as soon as the oxtails arrive, there will be a big ole pot of Slow Cooked Oxtail Stew for a weekend meal.
What do you like most about this time of the year?
Harvest fruits and veggies
Slow cooked soups and chowders
Family holiday meals

Spending a beautiful Autumn evening with a glass of Pinot Grigio and a good book…can it get any better than that?
Yes it can!
Spending an evening with a glass of Pinot Grigio and listening to the author read excerpts from her book is much better.
That’s exactly what I and many others did last Thursday at the Delaware Children’s Art Museum on the Christina Riverfront in Wilmington. Suite Franchon, author of “Living the Journey” took us on a sensual journey of love and beauty via her poetry and by sharing some of her life’s intimate lessons.
The book launch was presented by Avery Group Public Relations and it was definitely a wonderful way to spend an evening with old and new friends.
Guitar accompaniment by the renowned musician Justin Graham only enhanced the ambiance of the event. However, the hors d’oeuvres, including cheese, fruit and wine was definitely a wonderful and welcomed feature.
The evening began with an introduction by Councilwoman Hanifa Shabazz after which SuiteFranchon made an elegant entrance via a spiral staircase to read various sections of her book, A Soulful Journey.
The audience was mesmerized not only by her soulful words but also by her honesty, integrity and ability to relate to almost everyone on some level with her own life’s experiences.
SuiteFranchon is a native Delawarean who has been entertaining audiences with her unique style of poetry for over a decade. She is a writer, director and executive producer of an organic and unique show call “Soul Opera”.
Sign up at her Fan Page and follow her Social Media networks to read more about this poet and performer who was featured at the 2015 Clifford Brown Jazz Festival.
The I Love My Selfie Photo Booth was an awesome way to capture the memories of the evening as well as providing everyone with an opportunity to share their experience on social media.
This delicious display of finger foods, cheese and fruits were provided by Walt’s Catering Services and the personalized “book cake” was an added sweet treat.
I read the book in it’s entirety and am now looking forward to hearing SuiteFranchon again at the next Peace Love & Poetry event being held at the World Cafe Live on December 10th at 7:00 p.m.
The time shown on the clock from November to March is known in the Northern hemisphere as “standard time.” The rest of the year is considered the exception, or “saving time.” Countries in the Southern hemisphere, however, reverse this, observing daylight saving time during their summer — between November and March.
Making matters even more confusing, daylight saving time (DST) isn’t practiced everywhere in the world. Most of Asia and Africa as well as parts of Australia and South America don’t observe DST at all — nor do Hawaii, Arizona, or many US territories, like Guam and the US Virgin Islands. (Utah may also consider dropping DST, based on public outcry.) Even where it is practiced, clocks are set forward and back on different dates, leading to even more regional variations.
Why Do We Have It?
If you live in a part of the world that experiences wide shifts in weather and daylight hours between summer and winter, you probably relish any extra time you get to spend outdoors in the summer sunshine. Moving the clock forward an hour in the spring gives people an extra hour of daylight in the evening, when they’re typically not working, rather than the morning. Added bonus for night owls: It also moves the sunrise an hour later, keeping late-risers’ bedrooms conveniently dim.
It’s not clear, though, whether all this inconvenience is worth it. One hundred years ago, when DST was first introduced in war-torn Germany, there was a case to be made for saving energy. Moving the clock forward in the spring reduces the number of waking hours between sunset and bedtime (since bedtime remains static while sunset occurs an hour later, according to the clock). Fewer post-sunset evening hours ought to mean fewer lights turned on, and less money spent on energy.
Newer studies throw this hypothesis into question, though. When DST was introduced, lightbulbs were the primary use of household electricity. These days, we use our TVs, computers and other small appliances just as much, whether it’s light or dark out. Meanwhile, lightbulbs have grown more efficient. And now that we live in a world where we can control indoor temperature (phew!), it’s possible that having more waking daylight hours could, in fact, increase our energy use, since air conditioning uses so much more power than a few measly lightbulbs and is typically turned higher during daylight hours. Studies are inconclusive, but even if it does save money, the savings are estimated to be no more than one or two percent.
more light in the morning for OOTD pics
How to Deal
In a perfect world, DST wouldn’t shock our circadian rhythms twice annually. “Ideally we would be able to allow our internal circadian rhythms to move along naturally with the light-dark cycles that change from season to season,” says Dr. Rosen. Since that’s not possible, try these tips to transition back to standard time with ease.
Don’t Stay Up Late
When you set the clocks back each fall, “your circadian rhythms will cause you to want to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier than your external environment,” says Dr. Rosen. “One of the biggest mistakes that people make … is staying up later and thinking that they’re going to get an extra hour of sleep,” she adds. Because your circadian rhythms may wake you early Sunday morning, it’s important not to count on that extra snooze time.
Use the Sun
The fall time change is easier than the spring, says Dr. Rosen, particularly for those who work standard daylight hours, since you’re able to hack your sunlight exposure. Try to get as much late afternoon sun exposure before switching the clocks back, and as much morning sun exposure as possible after switching the clocks to help ease the transition.
Take Your Time
“If you work a non-traditional schedule, or have a little extra time in the morning, it might ease the transition if you go to sleep and wake up 10-15 minutes later each day the week before the time change,” says Dr. Rosen. As always, adding a nap can help fend off drowsiness for anyone still struggling with the switch back to standard time.
I like Daylight Saving Time because it is great for early morning OOTD pics.
