Would You Wear Walmart to the White House?

A few weeks ago hubby and I went to Wally World –aka- Walmart to pick up a few groceries but of course, we each stopped in the clothing section first and yes, we both put something in the cart other than milk, bread, and eggs.

Hubby found a few shirts for Tayair to wear to work and I found a few skirts and tops for me to wear to work!

casual clothing from Walmart

I normally wear dresses to work but their Faded Glory skirts are 95% cotton making them great for the end of the season, perfect to wear on the hottest dog days of summer.

They were also only $6.88, so together with the top the entire outfit was less than $10 and you know that made it perfect for my wallet!

The long necklace was purchased from Avon and it comes with matching earrings which I didn’t wear, instead am wearing a pair of small gold hoops.

The clutch was purchased last season from Kohl’s and was a good way to break up the blue.  The bracelet is from Old Navy and if I am not mistaken the watch was also purchased from Avon.

Gotta love these denim wedge sandals which I think worked well with this casual outfit from Walmart.  As a matter of fact, I was going to wear this outfit on our tour of The White House but instead wore the dress.

What do you think would wearing Walmart to The White House be appropriate?

Guess who’s home from college?  Yes, Malik finished his second year at Bowie State University and he is back home.  I really missed him and am happy to have him back, but I am also bit apprehensive because it’s also time for him to get another car!

Last year his car was totaled as he was leaving work, we didn’t replace it at the time because he was heading back to school.  However, since then, he and his father have both been searching for a replacement vehicle and the time has come to do so.

Knowing that this next vehicle will be used with high mileage, his father will make sure that it’s in good working condition and well maintained which also includes a clean engine.

So while they are out and about searching for just the right car, I will be sitting home searching purchasing just the right motor oil to keep that engine clean.

#YogaPantChallenge with Depend Active Fit

Acorn Disclosure Now that hubby has completed his chemo treatments the time has come for both of us to get back into our regularly scheduled workout routine.  Last week we started getting up an hour earlier so that we can work out together before I head into work.  Our exercise routine is done in the basement and hubby starts by lifting light weights to help him regain his upper body strength and I start out by walking on the treadmill or elliptical for 30 minutes to aid in my cardiovascular fitness as well as to prevent age-related bone loss.

stretching exercises

After 30 minutes hubby and I switch, he hits the treadmill but instead of weight lifting I do some stretching exercises using the Balance Ball.  I am not going to lie, but stretching has proven to be more difficult than I anticipated; however, I am not giving up because I have plans on signing up for an evening Yoga class in the Spring.  Working out with hubby is one thing, but before venturing out to a Yoga class with a room full of people I wanted to make sure that I could stretch and bend without showing off my Depend® Silhouette® Active Fit Briefs.

Depend can be purchased at Walmart

You may recall from this previous post in which I stated that the combination of childbirth, surgery and aging all had weakened my bladder.  But like most women, I strive to live my life uninterrupted especially when it comes to fitness and fashion which is why I only wear Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs for Women

I really like that Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs are smooth under my clothes; have a thin design for complete comfort; are made of cotton-like fabric; come in beige and black and if you haven’t already noticed they are Yoga Pant Approved

Depend Active Fit Briefs are Yoga Pant Approved

I always purchase my Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs for Women from Walmart so during a trip last week, I also picked up these yoga pants, top and a mat to keep me motivated and challenged to sticking with a workout routine.

Now I have a challenge for you, take a look at both of the pictures below and see if you can tell which picture shows me in a pair of Depend® Silhouette® Active Fit Briefs and which picture shows me in a pair of regular underwear.

Wild Child and Flora

Wild Child and Flora…wait until you see my hair!

If you thought dressing through a flash was bad, wait until you see what the Delaware humidity did to my hair! These past few days have been filled with lots of rain, heat and the dreaded humidity. If you are an allergy sufferer, stop reading now because between the flora and the wild child hair you are going to be sneezing your head off!

Wild Child and Flora OOTD

If you are following me on Instagram (hint hint) – www.instagram.com/ablake48 then you would have seen this lovely floral arrangement that hubby gave me for our anniversary. Not only are they gorgeous in color but they are also very fragrant so much so that when I wake up I feel refreshed with a heightened sense of smell. At first I thought I was smelling an incense stick burning, but as the day wore on the fragrance became less powerful and much more soothing.

flowers from hubby for our anniversary

Wednesday morning was another uncomfortable day of dressing but it wasn’t that bad at least not until I stepped out of the door and “poof” my hair went into overdrive. It was definitely too hot to keep the curling iron on for more than a few minutes, so what you see is how I wore my hair to work!

Wild Child and Flora OOTD

I am wearing a thrifted “pool blue” tank and you just don’t know how much strength it took me to not call in to work and stay home pool side. Unfortunately, I am using my days off for more important matters so that wasn’t an option. That is the number one perk that I miss now that I have a position that doesn’t allow “work from home” days, so if you are fortunate enough to have them…take full advantage because you will miss them if/when they are gone.

Wild Child and Flora OOTD

This too shall pass…mark my words!

The tank was perfect for the busy skirt from CitiTrends and the two-tone sandals also complemented the outfit – what do you think?

The purse is Mark from Avon, and if you haven’t checked out the latest catalog please click this link.  Once there, check out some of the clothing and accessories including those statement necklaces that were featured in last week’s giveaway.

By the way, thank you all for entering the Rafflecopter for a chance to win, and I’d like to once again say, “congratulations” to Whitney Nic James, winner of the Avon Statement Necklace Giveaway.  Stay tuned for aFall Fragrance” Giveaway coming in September!

Speaking of statement necklaces, this particular one is from Walmart #yesWalmart and the stackable rings are also an Avon item – check them out here.

Summer Sizzles with Kabobs and Kraft!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it’s advertiser. All opinions are 100% mine alone. #FireUpTheGrill #CollectiveBias

Sssh..don’t say this too loudly but it’s almost the end of the summer season…I may not miss the sizzle of the sun, but I will definitely miss the sizzle of the grill especially on the weekends.

Last week I decided to fire up the grill and make chicken and veggie kabobs, a quick and easy side salad and a pitcher of cold and refreshing Country Time lemonade.

Kraft Summer Grilling 083

countrytime lemonade

Hubby and I headed over to Walmart to get the fresh veggies, Kraft dressings, including a bottle of Zesty Lime Vinaigrette for the pasta salad; and a bottle Kraft Three Cheese Ranch to use as a dipping sauce for the grilled veggies and chicken. For the salad, I also picked up a package of Kraft Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese and a pack of Pepper Jack Cheese because you know I like it spicy!

Kraft Dressings in Walmart

Kraft Cheeses

You can basically use any veggie for the kabobs, but I chose yellow summer squash, red onion, mushrooms and sweet Zima tomatoes, all of which can be found in the fresh market produce section at Walmart.  I also picked up a bag of mini Sweet Peppers, I love eating those as snacks!

Fresh veggies at Walmart

A little twist was added to the CountryTime lemonade with chunks of fresh watermelon and cantaloup also from Walmart’s fresh produce section and I must admit, not only were these melons sweet they also had a a sweet price!

Summertime is fun time for pool parties, picnics and parades and the last thing you want to do is spend it indoors cooking, so head outside and #FireUpTheGrill. Create your own style of chicken and veggie kabobs and dip them into some Kraft Creamy Ranch Dressing.  With so many varieties to choose from there’s gotta be a flavor that everybody will love.

ingredients for pasta salad

Chicken and Veggie Kabobs

If using wooden skewers, allow them to soak in a dish of water for a few minutes first to keep them from burning on the grill

Ingredients:

Skinless chicken breasts or tenderloins, cut into chunks then cooked in the oven for about 10 minutes @ 350~ or you can boil them. I prefer to cook the chicken so that veggies don’t burn as they cook very quickly on the grill

2 – yellow summer squash – sliced and halved

1 – container of mushrooms, stems removed and washed thoroughly (see my IG video for a “Toni’s Tip”)

8 -mini sweet peppers, halved

½ – Red onion, sliced (see my IG video for a no-tear onion cutting tip)

1 – package of Cherry or Sweet Yellow Tomatoes

1 bottle of Kraft Creamy Ranch Dressing – any flavor

Seasoning Salt (optional)

Cooking Oil Spray

Instructions:

  1. Heat Grill (follow instructions for propane or charcoal)

  2. Preheat oven to 350~

  1. Cut chicken breasts/tenderloins into chunks, then place them, single layer in a small pan or tray and spray with cooking oil.  Cook for 10 mins or until no longer pink

  2. Allow chicken to cool just enough to handle

  3. Skewer veggies and chicken alternating each

  4. Sprinkle with seasoning salt (optional)

  5. Spray each side with a little cooking spray

  6. Place Kabobs on grill, but use a grill mat or grill pan because veggies tend to soften and fall through the open grates or onto the ground…have you ever stepped barefoot onto a grilled cherry tomato…hot hot hot!

  7. Grill kabobs for 5 minutes then turn – grill for another 5 minutes then remove – turn, turn don’t burn

10. Remove from grill, and allow to rest for 5 minutes then yell…dinner’s ready!

Live leak free like me with Depend Silhouette Active Fit

I have been married for 25 years, am a mother of two sons in college and have a full time job in Corporate America, I lead a very busy and active lifestyle.  I can’t let a little bladder leakage stop me from from doing what I need to do; whether it’s traveling long distances on the weekend or just commuting back and forth to work on a daily basis, and thanks to Depend Silhouette Active Fit I can live leak free!

Depend Silhouette Active Fit 1

Depend Silhouette Active Fit 2

I’ve had an overactive bladder my entire life, even as a young girl I was constantly running back and forth to the bathroom.  It had gotten to the point that my grandmother needed to write notes to the teachers advising them of such. They thought that whenever I raised my hand requesting permission to go it was because I was just trying to get out of class.

As I aged, had children and then a surgical procedure in 2009, my bladder became weaker. My daily commute is 3 hours so I have to time myself before drinking that first cup of coffee…praying that there are no major traffic tie-ups.  I also keep an extra Depend Silhouette Active Fit in my purse just in case “pee happens”.

Depend in my purse

I can’t have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, instead I must wait until there is less than 30 minutes of travel time remaining.  I wish I could take just a sip, but I can’t…to simply cross my legs and pray that my bladder cooperates is not an option.

In the afternoons, the cut off time for drinking any beverage is 3:00 p.m., hours before I begin my evening commute home.  In addition to my full time job I also teach Blogging and Social Media classes as well as present at various workshops and seminars throughout the state of Delaware.  In these instances I definitely have to limit my liquid intake or not drink at all to ensure my bladder is empty before the sessions begin.  I would hate to have to run out in the middle of one to use the restroom.

Presenting at From Purses to Portfolios 138

At work, when I have to go…I have to go…there is no swirling in my chair. Oftentimes, I’ve had to put callers on hold or simply hung up on them and rushed to the ladies room which fortunately isn’t far from my office.  When attending local events I make sure that I know where all the restrooms are located; I’ve even used a men’s bathroom (empty of course) because the lines for the ladies’ were too long.

Being over the age of 50 isn’t a mandate for having a leaking bladder, as a matter of fact a few of my younger blog followers have also experienced bladder leakage, either from coughing, laughing or sneezing too hard.  They initially found it to be embarrassing but have since come to realize that ‘pee happens’ and that they are not alone because bladder leakage affects over 51 million people both men and women.

pee a little

Throughout the years I have tried various types of pads but the Depend Silhouette Active Fit are by far much more comfortable than any of them.

Depend Silhouette Active Fit 4

When I purchased my first box of Depend Silhouette Active Fit from Walmart, I was a bit apprehensive about wearing them.  I thought that they would be big and bulky and very noticeable under my clothing, even my husband gave me a look like “REALLY!”

But once I put them on, I found them to be very comfortable, they didn’t ride up my leg and there were no panty lines which is a definite plus.  I wear dresses and skirts to work everyday and jeggings on the weekends and you can’t see a thing, I am still styling and profiling in my OOTD blog posts.

The Depend Silhouette Active Fit not only gave me confidence and comfort during my long flights from Philly to California, but I even felt sexy strolling through the airports.  I can honestly say, that I love the Depend Silhouette Active Fit because they contour to my body, shapes my curves and come in my favorite lingerie color, black!

Now I don’t mind shopping at Walmart for the Depend Silhouette Active Fit because I know they look and feel good on me – just check out this video and you’ll see what I mean.

4 Ingredient Apple Turnovers ~ A Quick & Easy Sweet Treat

DISCLOSURE: This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Pure Via®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PureViaSweet http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

You know that we love to have a little something sweet after dinner and with apples being so plentiful I decided to make a few turnovers using only 4 ingredients, apples, refrigerated biscuits, Pure Via Sweet, and cinnamon.

I had plans on going to the orchard but the weekend was busy and Malik brought home a friend from college so I just grabbed a few apples along with a box of Pure Via Sweet from Walmart.

Apple Turnovers with Pure Via Sweet

With a coupon I was able to save $.55 on one box of Pure Via Non-GMO, All Natural, Zero Calorie 40 ct. packets, but it’s only while supplies last so click here to see if it’s  still available.

Also, on most packages there’s a sticker with an offer for a free song and cookbook/songbook download from Jewel, but you can also take advantage of that offer by clicking this link: http://purevia.com/Jewel-Tunes/

Pure Via in Walmart

Just like my grandmother, I also like apple turnovers and these are really quick and easy to make.  Using Pure Via which is made from the pure extract of the stevia leaf, a natural alternative to sugar made these taste great.

Ingredients:

1 medium Granny Smith apple

Refrigerated biscuits, use as many or as few as you need

Ground Cinnamon

A few packets of Pure Via Sweet

1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine

Ingredients for Apple Turnovers with Pure Via

Directions:

Heat oven to 400 degrees

Wash, core and slice apple

Remove and separate biscuits from the can, roll or flatten by hand

Place 1 slice of apple on biscuit and sprinkle with a little Pure Via Sweet and cinnamon

Fold biscuit in half, crimp edges with a fork

Roll or flatten biscuit, add apple sprinkle cinnamon and Pure Via

Fold biscuit in half and crimp ends with a fork

Brush tops with melted butter

Sprinkle tops with a little more Pure Via Sweet and Cinnamon

Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden brown

Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle a little Pure Via Sweet

Serve warm and enjoy

Texting Tuesday in the Cold

Hello Friends and Happy Texting Tuesday

I recently read an article about touch screen gloves by The North Face company that allows users to use their Smartphones to text in the cold weather without having to remove them.  Being the frugal fashionista that I am, I doubt if I’ll ever purchase a pair considering the $45 cost and the fact that I really do not need them.  I don’t live in New York City or Philadelphia, my commute is in the car which of course is a no texting while driving zone, so for the short amount of time I do spend outdoors, I think my fingers can handle it.

Texting in the cold

Today’s dress for less outfit is accented by a pink suede jacket from GW Boutique (Goodwill) and faux suede loafers from Wally World (Walmart) that I DIY studded.

DIY Studded Loafers

Pink is obviously one of my favorite colors as evidenced by my OtterBox cell phone shell.

Thrifted Suede Jacket from Goodwill

Slacks and scarf are closet staples and polka dot top is also thrifted from GW Boutique.

What do you think, would you purchase a pair of the touchscreen gloves or do you already have a pair?

Today I am linking up with Thrifters Anonymous.
