JenJenHouse.com Prom Dresses

Disclosure: This is a sponsored  post for JenJenHouse.com via Sverve for which I will receive compensation, all opinions are 100% my own.

Our son, Malik will be graduating in May and he hadn’t even mentioned the Senior Prom, so last week when I asked if he was going, he just shrugged his shoulders and said, “yes”. I know having a son is much different than having a daughter, because by now she would have been talking non-stop about the Prom, and probably would have already found a dress.

Knowing me, I’d be more excited than she because both my Junior and Senior Prom dresses were handmade and neither were very good.  I would want her dress to be much better so that the event would be more memorable.  Thankfully, for mothers with Prom-bound daughters there are beautiful and affordable options available online at JenJenHouse.com

JenJen Prom Dress

JenJenHouse.com, carries a large selection of Prom Dresses to fit almost every budget and size, there’s even a custom “Made to Order” option available for many of the styles.

At JenJenHouse.com you’ll find Prom Dresses from sassy to sophisticated in various lengths, styles, and colors to suit many tastes.  They also carry a large selection of accessories to complete the perfect Prom outfit.

My son doesn’t have a steady girlfriend so at this point all he needs to worry about is matching his shirt and tie to his date’s dress color.

She on the other hand will have an opportunity to chose any color either to match the High School’s theme or if they are going as a group to find one that is different from the others.   JenJen Prom Dresses

Midnight Velvet | #Giveaway #ad

Disclosure:  I received this item free of charge from Midnight Velvet.  No monetary compensation was received or offered, all opinions are 100% my own.

Growing up in Dover I remember getting excited every time a Midnight Velvet catalog came in the mail.  As soon as one arrived my grandmother and I would snuggle up on the sofa and flip through each page.  She loved the large colorful church hats, and I loved the shoes, jewelry and decorative tops.  I liked seeing the beautiful clothing the models wore, but always secretly wanted an animal print bedroom set, however, I knew my grandmother would have said, “no”.

Midnight Velvet Catalog

I still love looking through the pages of a Midnight Velvet catalog, and now I have an opportunity to review a product from their Spring 2014 catalog.  Of course I thought of my grandmother, knowing she would have been excited for me and wished I had chosen one of those big, colorful church hats.

Monte Carlo Gold Caftan However, for this review, I selected the Monte Carlo Gold Caftan.  It arrived in a zebra print box which I’ll definitely re-purpose later.  I loved that it was exactly as pictured in the catalog and fit perfectly.  The Caftan is two pieces with a machine washable polyester tank underneath.  Extra sequins are included for the nylon top which only needs to be spot cleaned.

The Monte Carlo Gold Caftan is perfect for a night out on the town with hubby or perhaps to a special church event which I know my grandmother would have liked.

Midnight Velvet

Midnight Velvet has fresh new Spring confident styles for a beautiful you and your home.  Check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube,  and Pinterest, and be sure to follow their Beauty Blog for the latest fashions, styles and trends.

Syles of the 60s

Styles of the 60s

I was born in 1961, the decade known for free love, drugs, Go-Go Girls, Rock and Roll, The Vietnam War, Civil Rights, Hippies, the Birth Control Pill, The Peace Corp, Dr King, President Kennedy, assassinations, integration, Space Explorations, Cuban Missile Crisis, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The Beverly Hillbillies, Afros, Crew Cuts, and of course the vibrant and colorful world of fashion.

The Past Is a Blast is a website that has culminated fun and interesting facts about the ’60’s, including popular music, dances, sports figures, politicians even the minimum wage, which at the time was just a $1.00, go check it out.

I was too young to fully understand it all but do remember that I loved the fashion and styles of the ’60’s, the bell bottoms, platform shoes, neon colors, color blocking and pattern mixing…hey, isn’t that the style of today?

3 Generations Saving at The Salvation Army

On Friday I had the pleasure of spending the day with my girlfriend, her mother and her daughter, 3 generations on a mission to thrift 2 outfits for less than $10.00 each from The Salvation Army Family Store.  Driving north in the drizzling rain to Wilmington in anticipation of thrifting was a great way to start my vacation day.

The Salvation Army Family Store 054

The layout of The Salvation Army Family Store made it easy to maneuver the shopping carts throughout the floor and in between the racks, making it easier to locate bargains.  We started at the front racks, filled with skirts, blazers, pants and tops organized by color and then worked our way back to the dresses, finding both casual and dressier attire.

Aisles

The price points for clothing at The Salvation Army Family Store is higher than that of Goodwill but there are still bargains to be had.  I found a pair of new, white Liz Claiborne jeans for $4.99, a perfect wardrobe addition for the summer! The “color of the day” was pink, which meant 50% off all clothing and shoes with a pink tag, and we each found at least one pink tag item.

The shoe racks were filled with a variety including Anne Klein, Steve Madden and Nine West pumps, Merrell Ortholite, Skechers and Enzo Angioline sandals, which I purchased, a little pricey at $14.99, but still a bargain because they can originally sell for $59.00.

The Salvation Army Family Store 068

Thrifting with the 3 generations of ladies at The Salvation Army Family Store was enjoyable as well as satisfying knowing that our purchases would be helping the Adult Rehabilitation Program.  The Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it was refreshing to hear the overhead announcement, “Welcome to The Salvation Army Family Store…Have a Blessed Day”

Clothing is not all you’ll find!

Not your Grandmother’s Avon

I’m not sure if you’ve seen an Avon catalog lately and if not, here’s just a taste of what you’ve been missing.  As an Independent Sales Rep for Avon for over 15 years I’ve seen many changes all of them good.  Avon is a company that has been in business for 125 years and has changed with the times without sacrificing the quality of their products, however, it is no longer your grandmother’s Avon – check it out.

Shopping in Dover

On Friday, after Tayair and I left the cemetery we stopped at Spencer’s Bazaar Flea Market and then Rodney Village Shopping Center.  There will be a separate post for Spencer’s Bazaar that features unique items made and sold by a high school friend.  Our next stop was to the Goodwill store where Gloria once worked before she passed.  I walked around for almost 30 minutes and could not find anything, eventually I found a belt for $1.00.  Within the shopping center which is really a strip mall there was Beauty Max, a large beauty supply store.  Hubby needed new hair clippers and I was looking for a “weekend wig”.  After finding a cute FreeTress unit on clearance for $19.99, a lace front, the hair clippers and some nail polish we decided to head home.

As we were leaving I noticed a store called Citi Trends, I had never heard of it but decided to stop in and check it out.  The clothing was along the lines of urban gear for the younger crowd, but I found a cute pencil skirt, a cuff bracelet and a spike ring.  (posted on Instagram @ablake48).  Tayair wasn’t interested in anything but I knew Malik would be, so on Saturday I let him drive us back down to check it out.  While he shopped I took time to look around and ended up getting these shoes and dresses.  Malik wore the Canvas Lace Ups and watch to school which is probably why he was so anxious on going today.

Purchased this FreeTress Wig (Lyon Girl) for $19.99

Rugged Wearhouse Fall Fashions

As with most stores, the fall fashions were in stock well before Labor Day to capture the back to school crowd as well as the excitement of updating our fall wardrobes. Rugged Wearhouse is a clothing store that has really stepped up their game. I remember years ago this store carried mainly jeans and t-shirts for young adults and school age kids, and although this is still their primary target the selection of women’s wear has greatly improved. To further entice the more mature buyer they recently introduced a Rewards Program. When you sign up online you will receive a card which is presented at checkout. The reward is $5.00 off your next purchase if you spend at least $25.00.
On this trip I did spend more than $25.00, and here are the items that I purchased.

Price point for these tops starts at $7.99

Career Clothing

Price point for these dresses start at $12.99

Shoes are a hit or miss, depending on when they get a shipment, I saw several pairs of boots but wanted to wait because I couldn’t remember what I already had in my closet. I did however, get these purple ones because I knew I didn’t have any in this color and I liked the funky heels!

Shoe price point varies, these were $9.99

Accessories galore starting as low as $.99 cents.

I purchased 2 necklaces for $1.49, a pair of earrings and bracelets for $3.99 each.

Scarves and purses start at $4.99

Boscov’s DoorBuster Deals

Run don’t walk to Boscov’s for their latest “DoorBuster” deals!!!  One of the many featured items are ladies maxi and knee length dresses for $19.99,  and the selection is huge!!  Also featured are select Preswick & Moore Separates for $6.99 each, this collection is versatile and is perfect for the workplace.  There’s a large selection of  summer shoes and sandals on sale as well as racks and racks of clearance merchandise marked 50-75% off.  I purposely did not get a cart and could have spent all afternoon shopping but chose to use restraint and purchased only a few items which I will post later.  On my way home I may stop at the Boscov’s in the Concord Mall but I prefer Exton because they have such nice cashiers, especially Edwin.  This definitely was a great way to start the weekend and I hope you are having a wonderful FRI-YAY!!

I purchased this hi-low dress to wear to dinner in celebration of our 22nd Wedding Anniversary tomorrow

Here it is in pink

Definitely can be worn into the fall

Really nice asymmetrical design

So many colors and styles

I love this color combination

Can you believe it – $6.99 for these skirts, pants, blouses

and cardigans!
