Mary J Blige ~ The London Sessions

I participated in the Mary J Blige, The London Sessions album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are 100% my own.

Music is an important element in all of our lives whether we care to admit it or not. During the good times, the bad times, the happy times and especially during the sad times. I am sure we can all remember a time in our lives when a “name that tune” soothed our minds or comforted our souls.

My kindred spirit, my sister from “another mother’ and all time favorite female recording artist is Mary J. Blige. She understands the many challenges that women oftentimes must go through and her music is definitely a reflection of that.  Mary is an artist who is not afraid to step out of her comfort zone and do something completely different.

In this new album entitled “The London Sessions” which is being released on the 2nd of December there are some great cuts, however, ‘Therapy‘ is one that really speaks to my soul. The words in that song, “why would I spend the rest of my days unhappy…when I can go therapy two times a day” is poignant.

This is Mary’s 13th studio album, however, it was created entirely in London where she worked with artists who understood her greatness, and together they unleashed 12 tracks of awesomeness!

Mary J. Blige is a blessed soulful songstress with longevity so I know she will always create a song that will become an important element in my life.

You can pre-order the album now from iTunes and Amazon.

Friday Foodie Feature – Lean Pockets

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!

What happens when it’s Friday night and you don’t feel like cooking, ordering pizza or going out and a bowl of cereal just won’t cut it? In our house when that happens we head straight to the garage and to the freezer.  There is where I try to keep microwavable meals and snacks specifically for those occasions and last Friday night it was Lean Pockets Pretzel Bread Sandwiches.

photo (4)

I am not a big proponent of frozen meals & snacks because of the excessive sodium some of them contain but these Lean Pockets brand sandwiches are only 250 calories with 650 mg of sodium which isn’t a lot compared to others that contain well over 1000 mg of sodium.

The Lean Pockets Sandwiches were filled with Spinach and 3  Cheeses, Fontina, Romano and reduced Fat Mozzarella.  I zapped one in the microwave for 2 minutes 30 seconds in the crisping sleeve then cut it in half.  It didn’t seem like it had a lot of filling and could have had more spinach, but to my surprise it was quite good and hit the spot. The soft pretzel bread encased a flavorful mix of spinach and cheeses that paired well with my glass of Friday night wine!

Speaking of wine, I want to reintroduce my “play cousin” Cook E doe Face.  She is a down to earth YouTube Vlogger who will have you in stitches as you watch her create some delicious dishes and “knock you on your butt cocktails”.

Cook E de Face is from Philly and I fell in love with her atty-tud (Philly slang) from the very first video I watched.  In today’s world it is so easy to get caught up in the negativity but you know me, I like to keep it light.  Cook E doe Face has me laughing out loud and reminds me of my own New York cousins.  If it were left up to me she would definitely have a show on the Food or OWN Network!

Check out this recipe for Flatline Cocktail.

Have a fantastical day – Smooches!

AARP Not Me! Or has the time come to join?

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!

AARP

AARP Membership requests began hitting my mailbox way back in my 40’s and now that I am almost 52, I guess the time has come to consider joining.  I am reluctantly accepting the fact that I’m approaching the “S E N I O R” category – REALLY??!!  Hubby and I have been joking for years and betting on who would join first….I’d push the envelop away and say, “oh no I’m too young”, and he’d look at me side-eyed and smirk.

Offers of a Free Gift to join had oftentimes been tempting and there are definitely some great benefits including discounts at Ross Stores on Tuesdays!  Discounts on travel, food, entertainment, health, insurance, shopping, education and training and so much more should have been reason to sign up with a quickness, but I just couldn’t do it.  I had also loved the fact that they provide information on Long Term Care options, Employment Postings, even starting a new business, the benefits of being an AARP member far outweigh the small price to join.

I’ve finally made up my mind and submitted an online membership application, and then I entered the AARP Real People Model Search just for the heck of it.  I don’t expect to be chosen but it seemed like something fun to do as well as memorable to mark the occasion as I approach the wonderful world of “Senior Citizenship”.

If you would like to vote for me, click here, and look for Antionette B in Delaware.
