No makeup, heels or jewelry, only shorts/tanks, sandals and a bathing suit for 5 wonderful, sun-filled days. Whether it’s called a VACATION or STAYCATION, living “the Life of Riley” is a beautiful thing. Sleeping in late; eating breakfast on the back deck; poolside lounging; laughing with and loving family and friends was the perfect way to spend the long July 4th Holiday. It was also the first time that we did not go out to watch fireworks, I did however, watch Wawa Welcome America and loved Lauryn Hill’s surprise performance. I was also able to watch more of the Twilight Zone Marathon, “Time Enough At Last” with Burgess Meredith is my favorite episode! I did do a little yard work and paid the price with my annual case of poison ivy – oh how I hate the itch!!!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend and now it’s back to reality!

Rainbow Shops is having a clearance sale, 2/$20, on selected shoes and sandals so I picked up these in black/white and another pair in neon green/white.
They are super comfortable, I may have to go back and get the neon yellow/black and neon pink/black!

Conversation this morning:
Hubby:…whoa…you look good….
Me: what!!?…
Hubby: no, you just don’t look like you are going to work
Me: what…too much?!
Hubby: no…no…I just said, you look good
Okay, so he said, I looked good…but what…too much? That’s it…it’s official….today is Tropical Thursday and I am on vacation – MENTALLY!!! NO WORK – .NO WORRIES….sssh just don’t tell anybody – I want this dream to last all day!!
I remember seeing this tropical print dress at Goodwill and immediately thinking about sitting on a beach, with an umbrella drink in my hand. Unfortunately there are no plans to do that so I figured I might as well wear the dress and daydream about sitting on a beach with an umbrella drink in my hand. Thanks to the soaring temps today it’s helping to feed the fantasy.

No not me…the necklace, even though I do feel chunky after having birthday cake and beer over the weekend. Today I decided to wear this chunky necklace that I purchased from Avon months ago but never wore. To my surprise I think it works well with this plain, white, scooped-neck shirt – what do you think?

This dress was one of three purchased in May 2009, to wear to my grandmother’s funeral – RIP Mama! Blue was her favorite color and I wanted to wear something blue but ended up wearing the traditional funeral black. It has been hanging in my closet ever since because it has a short cropped jacket and ribbon belt which makes it look very matronly. Today I decided to wear it but without the jacket and ribbon belt and it’s now one of my favorites.

Every time I see red and white gingham my mind takes me back to the family picnics we had as a child. Whether it was at Bear Mountain, NY or Silver Lake, DE spreading that red and white tablecloth across a dirty wooden table meant a day filled with FOOD, FUN, and FAMILY!
One year a bunch of us kids got lost in Bear Mountain and we were scared to death that a real bear was going to eat us (child’s imagination running wild). We roamed around the woods for what seemed like hours, scared and arguing over which way was the right one back. Eventually we found our way and none of the adults seemed to miss us so we didn’t get into trouble and life was good again. Things got even better when we saw that red and white gingham tablecloth covered with FOOD – hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, chips, Kool-Aid, cookies and watermelon! We ate until we got sick and made a pact to never venture into the woods ever again – aaah more wonderful childhood memories!

We have several pine trees in our backyard that are full of pollen pods which drives me crazy and reeks havoc on my son’s allergies. We also have a very large Magnolia tree that produces only 1 bloom at a time. It was such a tiny tree when we purchased 10+ years ago but it has withstood hurricane winds. I didn’t think it would survive but it has and I patiently wait for the one bloom because it is very fragrant (stinkbugs like it too), but unfortunately the leaves are large and tend to drop in bulk.
