Hello friends and welcome to the first post of my new mid-week feature, Wellness Wednesday. Each week we will be talking about a health and wellness topic, but not always in a clinical way, sometimes it will be comical and fun, so enjoy and join in on the conversation!
Autumn brings about a lot of changes one of which is fewer hours of sunlight, it gets darker earlier but that doesn’t necessarily mean we are going to bed earlier or getting more sleep. Long gone are the days of working from sunrise to sunset.
If you are anything like me, oftentimes you find yourself up late catching up on paperwork, paying bills, working on your blog or watching a late night talk show. We all know that not getting adequate sleep interferes with our ability to function properly or concentrate while driving, completing daily chores and staying alert at work. So how do we get a better night’s sleep, here are 8 tips:
The bedroom should be a place for sleep, relaxation and intimacy only, no exercise or office equipment in the room.
Colours can be stimulating make sure to choose colors that are soothing and relaxing like blue or green.
Be comfortable, wear loose clothing or nothing at all, consider purchasing a new mattress and pillow. The room should be properly ventilated and slightly cool so that you can breathe well at night.
Sleep in complete darkness and install dark curtains or use an eye mask if necessary.
Try to sleep by 10pm and wake by 6am these are the hours that are ideal for melatonin secretion.
Take a hot bath right before bed. A hot bath will calm you and it’s a perfect time to relieve some stress. Try adding essential oils like lavender or chamomile to promote relaxation.
Limit EMF exposure. All electronics including TV, iPod, laptops and cell phones should be removed from the bedroom with the exception of an alarm clock but turn it away so the LED light doesn’t interrupt your sleep.
Keep lights off when using the bathroom at night. Instead have a night-light in place to prevent stopping the production of melatonin.
Come on join in on the conversation, what are some of the ways that helps you get a good night’s sleep?

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay
This has been a week of highs and lows and I am not even going to talk about the zany weather. Life is so very fragile, I am asking each of you to tightly hug and tell someone that you love them tonight before the clock strikes midnight! I also want to say, “thank you” for being part of my life, I will probably need to borrow some of your strength as time goes on…but we’ll talk about that later, in the meantime. please say an extra prayer for the “Blake Family”.
Can you believe that this is the 10th Weekend Wind-Down Party? It has been so much fun, reading, sharing and laughing at all the wonderful posts each week.
BTW – this is the last weekend to enter to win the $50 Gift Certificate to Midnight Velvet!

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!
This month is running wild and flying by way too quickly, there has been a whirlwind of activity in my life and that’s not even including the last snowstorm of the season. (fingers crossed) All of it has definitely been wonderful and exciting, some I can speak about, others not just yet, but it’s all good news!
- I lost my 2005 Hyundai Sonata due to engine failure and replaced her with a 2010 Hyundai Accent.
- Hubby completed his retirement paperwork, so on July 1st, he will officially be retired from the State of Delaware – congrats, I’ll give you the “honey-do” list on the 1st of August, a few weeks before our 24th Wedding Anniversary.
- The 2014 Goodwill Runway Show was fantastic, I hope you had an opportunity to read the post, if not, click here. I twisted my ankle a few hours before the event and had to change shoes 3 times, but thankfully, it wasn’t worse and I made it through the night with a smile!
On Tuesday I taught a Blogging 101 Class which is sponsored by The Money School of Delaware and there were some awesome attendees whose participation was great.
Tomorrow the temps are expected to reach the upper 50’s, so if you are getting a jump on your Spring Wardrobe don’t forget to enter to win a $50 Gift Certificate to Midnight Velvet.
Now, let’s get this party started!

Hello Friends and Happy Monday!
There definitely should be an extra day between Saturday and Sunday because trying to squeeze in chores and relaxation into two can be exhausting! I trust you all had an enjoyable weekend and hopefully are half way through a stress free Monday.
Today’s outfit is a simple two piece skirt and sleeveless tank that I must have bought about 10 years ago and thanks to the elastic waistband, I will probably have it another 10 years!
Too much of this makes for a very mellow Monday!
How are you feeling today?
