Summer Scarf & Thankful Thursday

PersonalizationMall.com - Personalized Romantic Gifts
Hello friends,

I am thankful that the summer weather here in the Mid-Atlantic area has not been oppressively hot and humid.  We did get some really heated days earlier in the season but then came those low to mid-80’s temps which were fantastic.

Last month I read a blog post by Mo over at “Who is that Girl Mo” which gave me the inspiration to wear this scarf.

Summer Scarf

I wore the outfit on a Casual Friday which is when I like wearing my white jeans or pants.

Thrifted White pants

I have several pairs of white pants, these included which were thrifted from Goodwill, the infinity scarf was purchased last fall from Burlington Coat Factory.

Summer Scarf

The sleeveless tank top, tote bag and wrap-around bracelet are all from Avon – didn’t I tell you that they have nice accessories!

Summer Scarf

I love how these Montego Bay sandals pulls in the colors from the scarf.

Thank you Mo for the inspiration, whoa, hold on…wait a minute…come to think of it…I did wear a summer scarf last year…uh oh, I think I just had a a “senior moment”!

Well it was probably a temporary lapse in memory, but I am thankful that I did remember and thanks to Mo’s post, it was the trigger.

This has been yet another wonderful week and yesterday our ‘baby bird’ left the nest!  Both of our sons are now in college and I am thankful for that, even if my wallet isn’t.

I am thankful for the time we have together as a family, I am thankful for my friends and of most importantly I am thankful for my faith.

Now it’s your turn – what are you thankful for this week?

I hope you will join me over at Katherine’s Corner to share some of your favorite things.

Super Foods for Seniors

Hello Friends and Happy Tuesday

I have a wonderful aunt who for the past 20 years has always sent me a box of Chocolate Covered Cherries for Christmas.  She also likes to include a little something extra for me and the boys like a hat, scarf, gloves or toiletries.  This year, in addition to the candy and a sweatshirt for the boys, she included the book “Super Foods for Seniors“.  At first I took offense, am I really a senior, hey, I’m only 52, but in actuality, I AM a senior, maybe not a Senior Citizen but I am past the mid-way point of my life.  I know there are things I can no longer do, wear or even eat, so I’ll accept being a senior and try to stay as healthy as I can for as long as I can.

Super Foods for Seniors After I got over the title I opened the book and boy was I pleasantly surprised, there are chapters that cover almost every health issue or concern and then it lists the best foods to eat.  There are chapters on Blues Busters, Tension Erasers, Body Slimming Secrets, Heart Smarts, Sugar Control, Bowel Basics and Female Focus, this book covers it all and is a great reference tool.

In the first chapter “Blues Busters” these are the foods that help with depression, and my grandmother always believed that most of these foods kept you healthy.

  • Pinto Beans
  • Asparagus
  • Sardines
  • Potatoes
  • Liver (yuck)
  • Salmon
  • Beets
  • Clams
  • Sweet Peppers
  • Gumbo
  • Whole Grain Bread
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Cajun Rice
  • Turkey
  • Corn

These “Blues Buster” foods will not cure severe depression as that’s a chemical imbalance in the brain, but not eating right can cause mild depression. The foods listed contain brain boosting vitamins and nutrients that can help chase the blues away.

Unfortunately, women experience depression far more often than men because of our hormonal changes due to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.  Seniors, (that’s me), are especially at a high risk for depression so this weekend I think I’ll make some Gumbo because I’ll be mildly depressed as we celebrate our youngest son’s 18th birthday – where is the world did the time go!

If the Gumbo doesn’t lift my spirits, perhaps a few of these Chocolate Covered Cherries will do the trick!

Merry Christmas Monday

Hello Friends and Happy Monday

I trust you all had a wonderful weekend and I know most of you are still on holiday which probably made it even better.  Did you hit the stores and do a little more shopping or did you just stay home and relax?

I went back to work on Thursday but took off on Friday and it was mah-va-lous, I put on a pair of leggings, a tunic and no makeup, it was great.

Christmas 2013 was very nice, a little quieter than in previous years but never the less it was nice being together as a family.  None of us got up before 10, and after opening our gifts we spent a lazy day watching “A Christmas Story“, eating and napping.

Christmas 1

This was my husband’s first try at stocking stuffing and I had to laugh because mine looked as though it threw up a scarf!  The Moscato was a gift from Pockets Discount Liquors and I will popping it open on New Year’s Eve.

Christmas 2

A stadium chair for those hard bleachers at Malik’s wrestling matches; Philadelphia Eagles car mats for Tayair and another jewelry box to help me organize the top of my dresser.

Christmas 3

Tayair received a US Polo Assn jacket and the Polaroid A8 Tablet that I purchased from Walgreens.

Christmas 4 Baltimore Raven’s pajama bottoms, a US Polo Assn jacket and heavy duty car mats for al-Malik.

Christmas 5

Socks (thrown a-la A Christmas Story), Old Spice and a Fireproof Safe

Christmas 6

A bathrobe and a Gillette Set

Christmas 7

Earrings, animal printer slippers and a watch from my mini-men

Christmas 8

Warm tops and Hot Sauces

Christmas 9

Gift Cards and Stockings full of sweets and a toothbrush!

Christmas 10

Hubby would love for me to wear the scarf this way…but I say, “no way”!

Christmas 11

Some things never change!

  How was your Christmas?

Wrap it up Wednesday – OOTD

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday!

Last week before this burst of Wintery weather I was wearing scarves and wraps because I don’t particularly like wearing coats, especially while driving.

OOTD

Wrap – Burlington Coat Factory | Skirt and Polka Dot Top – thrifted from GW Boutique  | Shoes – thrifted from The Salvation Army

Wraps and scarves are easy breezy to put on and take off and were perfect for the late Autumn weather.

But now that the snow has arrived with a vengence, I guess it’s time to break out the full winter gear…the hats, coats, scarves AND gloves…

snowy Sunday

but then again…maybe not!

Have you pulled out your winter gear?
