Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!
This month is running wild and flying by way too quickly, there has been a whirlwind of activity in my life and that’s not even including the last snowstorm of the season. (fingers crossed) All of it has definitely been wonderful and exciting, some I can speak about, others not just yet, but it’s all good news!
- I lost my 2005 Hyundai Sonata due to engine failure and replaced her with a 2010 Hyundai Accent.
- Hubby completed his retirement paperwork, so on July 1st, he will officially be retired from the State of Delaware – congrats, I’ll give you the “honey-do” list on the 1st of August, a few weeks before our 24th Wedding Anniversary.
- The 2014 Goodwill Runway Show was fantastic, I hope you had an opportunity to read the post, if not, click here. I twisted my ankle a few hours before the event and had to change shoes 3 times, but thankfully, it wasn’t worse and I made it through the night with a smile!
On Tuesday I taught a Blogging 101 Class which is sponsored by The Money School of Delaware and there were some awesome attendees whose participation was great.
Tomorrow the temps are expected to reach the upper 50’s, so if you are getting a jump on your Spring Wardrobe don’t forget to enter to win a $50 Gift Certificate to Midnight Velvet.
Now, let’s get this party started!

Hello Friends and Happy Monday
Yesterday afternoon as I sat writing this post we were anxiously awaiting another major snowstorm, hopefully the last one of the season. People were out in the grocery stores stocking up on food as if they needed enough to last for the entire week.
In 17 days it’ll officially be the first day of Spring, we won’t be eating as much and most likely will be looking for ways to shed a few of those snowstorm pounds. We will be outdoors more and adding exercise to the mix so here’s a list of Super Foods that will help us shape up safely.
Your body thrives when you stay in shape, you feel healthier, live longer and resist diseases better. Exercise and eating right combined is the best way to take off and keep off unwanted pounds. Exercise burns calories, protein and carbohydrates, so these foods will provide the proper amount of replacement fuel for your body.
Whole Grain Bagels – breakfast bread filled with complex carbohydrates
Pork and Beans – full day’s supply of iron and zinc
Honey – add a spoonful to water before exercising for a boost of energy and after a workout to help muscles regenerate
Peanuts – but hold the salt, exercise burns proteins, peanuts puts it back and provides fiber and satisfies hunger
Energy Bar/Nutrition Bar/Diet Bar – replaces the energy after a workout
Lean meat – after you exercise, it replaces protein and helps sore muscles heal and rebuild
Banana – Complex carbs and potassium
Sunflower Seeds – Full of Vitamin E and good treatment for muscle cramps
Milk – Calcium not only build bones, it keep your muscle moving to prevent cramps
Water – prevent dehydration which is the most common cause for muscle cramps
Almonds – Replaces minerals lose due to dehydration
Pumpkin Seeds – Magnesium helps with cramps and fatigue
Pink Grapefruit – Protection against breathing problems – especially for asthma
Broccoli – Good source for almost all nutrients you’ll ever need
Caffeine – a cup of coffee or a can of cola can prevent asthma attacks if you are prone to them while exercising
Oranges – Vitamin C eases aches, pains and swelling you get from workouts
Mustard – mix a little mustard with water and drink to stop muscle cramps
Grape Juice – relieves legs cramps, makes blood vessels more elastic and blood flow better
It doesn’t matter what exercise you chose to do, remember to check with your physician before starting a new regiment – better to be safe than sorry.
Be Blessed – No Stress in 2014!
Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday!
Tonight is the night…is the night…is the night…for another major SNOWSTORM – gotta love it right – NOPE! I don’t think the Robin’s in our neighborhood believes it either because they have been flying around enjoying the sun-filled days. I truly feel in my heart of hearts that this will be the last big winter snow storm of the season, what do you think?
One good thing about this month is every Sunday all adult winter clothing is just $2.00 and children’s clothing only $1.00 at Goodwill stores in Delaware and Delaware County. Last Sunday I had to meet up with one of the Runway models, so I took advantage of the day to stock up on more sweaters, seems like I’ll get a chance to wear them all in this never ending cold winter weather.
This Merona from Target colorblock sweater wasn’t part of the sale because it was new with tags, but when I saw it I grabbed it. I knew it would compliment a skirt that was previously thrifted and each piece cost only $3.75. What do you think?
Yes, I am wearing peep-toe booties in the snow! They are attention brand by Kmart, purchased a few years ago and no my toes are not cold (Miss Terri).
I couldn’t pass up this $2.00 Elizabeth Arden tote because it was the perfect size to carry to work. It’s roomy enough to hold my camera case and lunch bag as well as anything else I might need for the day AND the color – perfectly matches the outfit!! #winning
I don’t know about you, but I simply love finding these thrifted treasures and each week I’ll feature a different sweater as long as the weather holds out so that might be until June!
Today, I’m linking up with 3 of my favorite thriftinistas, Whitney Nic James, ColorBlind and DC Goodwill Fashionista. If you haven’t checked out these ladies, may I suggest you do as they too feature some awesome thrifted finds.
Oh, and if you are looking to jazz up your winter wardrobe by adding a pop of color, check out the flash sale over at * Hannah Jane’s Boutique. 15 colorful skinny belts originally $12.99 are on sale for only $5.99 with FREE shipping by using the code BELT50 at checkout. Deal runs through Friday, February 14, click link on the sidebar for more information.
Stay warm and safe during the storm and we’ll chat tomorrow.

Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday
If you read my post yesterday you know that we were once again hit with a major snowstorm on Tuesday. It took me over 5 1/2 hours to get home from work and I definitely didn’t want to be in the car anytime soon so I stayed home on Wednesday. At 10:00 a.m. Governor Markell lifted the Level One State of Emergency but it was highly recommended to stay off the roads so that the snowplow operators could do their jobs with minimal interruption from cars.
So on this day, I am thankful for my family, friends and faith…for getting home safely…for having a warm home to live in…and for scrounging around to find these ingredients to make this easy peasy Crock Pot Meal!
- 1 can of Kidney Beans
- 1 can of Black Beans
- 1 Package of Smoked Turkey Sausage
- 1 Package Frozen Peppers and Onions
- 1 Pack of McCormick Fajita Seasoning
- 1/2 Cup of Water
- Rice and Cornbread
Spray Crock Pot with Cooking Spray for easier cleanup. Cut Turkey Sausage into bite size pieces and add seasoning to a 1/2 cup of water.
Put sausage into Crock Pot and pour in Fajita Seasoning mix.
Add frozen veggies and both cans of beans, which can be drained and rinsed to remove some of the sodium.
Stir, cover and cooked on high for 4 hours.
This Snow Day Slow Cooker dish was served with Jasmine Rice and skillet Cornbread.
It was a perfect meal for my men after a few hours of shoveling and an all-day of television watching! I measured the snow on the back deck so I’ll say that we unofficially got 11″ of snow….can’t wait for Spring to arrive!
The Pool is not looking too inviting these days!
Snowy Street in Summit Farms (our neighborhood)
We are truly blessed, and I am thankful to have a warm home during this cold winter season. I pray for those with less to be safe and removed from harm’s way.
Okay, it’s your turn – what are you thankful for this week?

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday
Yesterday’s snowstorm was predicted to start around noon in our area but it actually began at 9:00 a.m. in West Chester, PA. However, before it’s arrival the sky was highlighted by a brilliant sunrise. #GodsLight
Knowing that I would be driving home in a snowstorm, I opted to wear pants to work as opposed to a dress or skirt.
I wore a denim shirt under this handmade vest which I had to take back from my son. Hubby had these matching vests made way before we had him so it was kinda funny when I had to retrieve it from his closet.
Brass and Bead necklace was a flea market find and ring was purchased at Burlington Coat Factory. My “work” shoes are from Kmart and although they are not very fashionable, they are extremely comfortable.
These faux suede pants are closet staples and are part of a two piece suit which I have had for years.
The snow continued with a vengeance so I left work at 11:30, but the roads were so bad that I didn’t get home until 5:00 p.m. Needless to say, I was upset and tired but I was also extremely thankful because there were so many cars stuck in snow and on the side of the road, I could only think “I’m blessed”.
This was 5:30 – what a difference a drop in temperature makes!
Sunrise to Snowstorm!
I am linking up with The Pleated Poppy who had joined with other bloggers in launching a new website “Blogger’s Closet so if you are a fashionista, go check it out!
Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Hello Friends and Happy Saturday
Today many people in the Northeast are digging themselves out from under the results of the first major snow storm of the new year. Snowstorm Hercules caused a lot of problems for many travelers up and down the eastern seaboard and today we are experiencing dangerously low temperatures and high winds causing snow drifts.
Thursday afternoon I left work early to get a jump on the impending storm and made it home safely before any major snow began to fall. However, it was well before 8:00 pm when the intensity of the snow increased and calls from the School Districts began. I decided to use a PTO day in order to avoid a long and possible 3 hour commute into work on Friday.
The snow continued throughout the night and into the early morning which excited hubby because he would finally be able to use his snow blower! He purchased a Craftsman Snow Blower three years ago after the big storm of 2010, but it went unused due to the extremely mild winters that followed.
Like a kid with a new toy, he stayed out so long that the tips of his fingers began to tingle. Did he use the extra gloves and hand warmers that I threw out to him – nope ~ oh well, too bad, so sad!
Despite the intense cold and blustery winds I ran outside a few times to capture the beauty of the day.
These scenes from the back deck and pool made me think – CAN’T WAIT FOR SPRING!
The beauty of the snow was only intensified by God’s gift of light!
Where you affected by snowstorm, and if so, how did you spend the day?

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!
Delaware dodged the snowstorm bullet yesterday, we only got a little rain and heavy winds and today the sun is shining with temps hovering above the 40 degree mark. Next week’s forecast call for highs in the 50’s to low 60’s, Spring is right around the corner, and more sunlight with the start of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday – don’t forget to “Spring Forward”.
Today’s outfit includes the color turquoise, a color that I like in clothing but not in jewelry. Turquoise, The Gem of Native Americans was very popular in the 60’s and early ’70’s, it seemed as though everyone had a big Turquoise ring or necklace, both men and women. Sapphire Green is supposed to be the “it” color for Spring, but Royal and Cobalt blues are my favorites as well as the lighter shades like turquoise because of their calming effects.
Calm, cool and collected – ready to take on the day!
How does your favorite color make you feel?
Blazer – GW Boutique (Goodwill) // Pencil Skirt – Mossimo via Target
Necklace & Ring – jewelry box // watch – Avon
Unlisted Black Suede Booties – Burlington Coat Factory
Linking up today with Loves on a Thursday , Katherine’s Corner and Happy Kids, Inc. – join in to meet a new blogger
Have a fantabulous afternoon — Smooches!
