Chicken Kabobs & Lemonhead Lemon Bars | Friday Foodie Feature

GiftedLiving - Live Happy!
Hello friends,

the summer may be fading fast, but don’t put away the grill just yet, why not fire it up and make some chicken kabobs for dinner tonight?  Kabobs are a quick and easy way to cook both your meat and veggies together on a stick whether it’s with chicken, beef or seafood. chicken kabobs with macaroni salad If using wooden skewers, allow them to soak in water for about 15 mins, this will prevent them from scorching or burning too badly.

I like using cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and sweet peppers.

veggies for the kabobs

Cube boneless, skinless chicken, then sprinkle on a little pepper and any seasoning of your choice.

Before placing the kabobs onto a high, preheated grill, spray them with a little cooking spray or brush with olive oil.  Grill for approximately 10 minutes or until done, you can also brush on a little barbecue or hot sauce if you prefer.

You know me, I have to have a little something sweet, so for dessert I made Krusteaz Lemon Bars but with a twist, crushed Lemonhead Candy sprinkled on top.

Following the directions on the box, I baked the Lemon Bars then allowed them to cool before adding some crushed candy.

All Day Energy Greens

This is a sponsored post for All Day Energy Greens, an IVL Product.  For more information please read my Disclosure Statement located in the top tab.

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday

As we get older our bodies starts to change, some changes are for the better others not so much. The metabolism slows down as well as the digestive track especially if you don’t eat the FDA’s Recommended Daily Amounts of fruits and vegetables.

I love fruits and veggies and eat them everyday but I know it’s not nearly enough so I have to include vitamin supplements.  When IVL Products partnered with Sverve I immediately signed up to be part of the campaign.  I knew that I needed to add more fruits and vegetables to my diet and this would be an excellent opportunity in which to do so with All Day Energy Greens.  Using the 2 week supply as an add-in to my morning Green Shakes and Smoothies would give me the boost that I needed.

I must admit that the taste wasn’t as pleasant as I would have liked and it made me a little gassy, but for what it’s worth, I was as regular as a new wound watch for 2 weeks!

I also liked the convenience of the individual packs this little green drink comes in because when running late in the morning, I would just throw a pack into my purse and dash out the door.  Once in the office I would use my shaker bottle or portable blender to mix it in with juice, water/ice or just with plain yogurt.

The best part of the two week trial was that I lost 3 lbs without altering my diet or exercising!  #winning

If you are like me and need to find a way to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, try All Day Energy Greens – stay healthy!

Flea Markets & Swap Meets

Would you consider yourself a Flea Market Fanatic or Swap Meet Maniac if in every state you visited you had to seek out one?

I wouldn’t but I love finding them in my state as well as others that I visit.  The first discovery was in 1976, the year we moved from New Rochelle, NY to Dover, DE and it was Spence’s Bazaar.  As a family we bought and then sold every Tuesday and Friday during the summer.  Buying fresh vegetables, clothing, jewelry, books, and games at a Flea Market was awesome and cheap!  Making money selling at a Flea Market was also awesome, however, my first experience wasn’t so positive.  I sold several cases of 1950’s and ’60’s Barbie Dolls with clothing and accessories to a women for $5.00 – I didn’t know, but she knew that she had ripped me off!

Tayair and I were there in September (here)

In college during the 80’s I discovered Cowtown Flea Market across the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pilesgrove, New Jersey.  It was the place to go for sneakers, knock off designer bags, tight Sergio Valente and Jordache jeans as well as items you needed for your dorm room before heading back to campus.  As a matter of fact hubby and I had our second date there, shopping then eating sausage sandwiches at the counter was where I fell in love with him, a man after my thrify heart!  I’ve also gone to some fantastic Swap Meets in California, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.

Even while vacationing in Florida we always dedicate one day to visiting Flea Markets and Swap Meets.  Malik looks for watches and has a pretty nice collection, when he was younger it was model cars of which he has a large collection.  Hubby would seek out new ties for work, me shoes and purses, and Tayair T-shirts.  During President Obama’s run in 2008 we must have purchased a dozen different styles of campaign T-Shirts.

In the ’90’s, and during our early years of marriage we would rent space at New Castle Farmers Market.  Selling surplus household items as well as those tight jeans and barely-there club dresses with hubby practically giving those away – lol!  Now as a couple we go for fresh veggies, vitamins and herbal teas, boy how times have changed!

Now it’s Dutch Country Farmers Market in Middletown, where for $15 you can rent 3 parking spaces on the 1st Saturday of the month beginning in April to September.  Last weekend I made almost $200 – “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”!

Save A Lot Bargains

On Friday, my son and I went to Save A Lot, a grocery store that I pass everyday on the way home but have never stopped. They had some good bargains especially in the produce department. Tayair thought it was weird that we had to pay a quarter to get a shopping cart, but understood the concept when we returned the cart and got the quarter back. This is not a fancy store nor is it “ghetto” as some people posted on Foursquare but the price is right for certain items as shown below:

These turkey links were awesome on the grill!

Bouillon cubes – 2/$1.00

Ground turkey – $2.99

Bar-B-Que Sauce – $.77 cents

My FAVORITE veggie!

Bagging your own groceries is another way the store saves you money.

I will definitely be back!
