Thankful For Being Thrifty
Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday
I recently read an article by my favorite financial advisor Michelle Singletary who is an author and Award Winning Nationally Syndicated Columnist for The Washington Post. She wrote about the case of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen. Seems like they got themselves into trouble for taking gifts and loans in exchange for political favors. I know this isn’t anything new in politics but what I found to be interesting was the fact they, like so many others found themselves in dire financial straits, drowning in credit card debt trying to keep up appearances.
I am truly thankful for being thrifty and I always enjoy meeting others who are just as frugal if not more so. Being a thriftinista isn’t just in vogue it’s what keeps most of us out of the financial fire pit called credit card debt.
It’s not that I don’t understand the McDonnell’s predicament because I too have lived beyond my means and paid dearly for it. I’ll be the first to admit that my finances aren’t where they should be but I do know that if I want designer duds, I’ll find a consignment shop with a quickness. I paid less for this gown than I did for a full tank of gas (sorry this is a old cell phone pic).

Today in addition to being thankfully thrifty, I am thankful for my family, friends and of course my faith. I am also thankful to be participating in today’s Social Media Workshop sponsored by The Money School of Delaware, I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

I am going to have to sign up for one of those VIP Cards never heard of it I will be asking about it the next time I visit my local Goodwill. That dress is gorgeous !
Yes, check online, not all stores have them but they stopped giving discounts which is strange…
Being thrifty has so many perks, such as helping us look fab without spending much, and helping us learn the value of a dollar 😉

I am thankful that I received the title to my paid off truck in the mail. I am also thankful that I am climbing out of credit card debt. I hope to be debt free in 12 to 18 months. Fingers crossed. PS. I wore an $8 goodwill dress to my daughters wedding. I love Goodwill.

I’m thrifty and proud too. I had some debt as a student and it’s a very stressful way to live. Now we don’t have much income but we live better because we’re more careful with our money.
Today I’m thankful my son got over a minor illness and is back in good form! 🙂
Isn’t it a good feeling to be able to answer the phone without having to worry that it’s a bill collector! Glad that your son is feeling better, that’s the worst thing about being a parent, watching your child(ren) suffer with an illness. Have a wonderful weekend!
I confess..I visit the goodwill and my local consignment store at least three times a week 😉
I find it thrilling to thrift. You never know what goody is waiting on the rack just for you.

I absolutely love love love this post. For one your look absolutely stunning. The color is great on you and the cut of the dress is so flattering. Two I love that you are a bargain shopper or thriftanista. I am the same way, I love that I can go into the store with 100 dollars and come out with full outfits for me and my daughter that include shoes, accessories and the whole nine yards. I have learned through my mom is like the queen of deals and coupons how to stretch my dollar. Let me tell you that has helped me so much especially now that I am an adult and have my own daughter. because being a single mama is hard but one thing I’m very proud of is that my daughter always has everything she wants and needs and I always have her looking great without spending too much money. You sound just like me and I can relate because that is how my grandmother raised us which is why I initially started this blog two years ago. She raised me and then I raised her until she transitioned on 5/1/09, at the age of 98. She and I always shopped for deals and we both loved sharing, laughing and just enjoying ourselves at The Salvation Army or Goodwill and I still miss her everyday. Glad I found another frugal and thrifty mom in this vast land of internet! My husband’s stress level will hit the roof if I buy anything in full retail price so I try to be thrifty as possible.
And we don’t have Goodwill VIP here in California, too bad 🙁
Yes, I am glad you found me, but in our home it’s just the opposite – makes me mad when hubby pays full retail when I can get it thrifed. He went to Burlington Coat Factory and bought two sweaters, $16.99 each, I went to Goodwill and bought 8 sweaters for $3 each and they were better and name brand. Sign up with GW anyway, they always send emails about sales that are worth it – like $2 Sundays. Have a thrifty week.
