Fashion and Fun after Fifty

Wine 2 Water

Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday!

2014 is the year that I will be celebrating my 53rd birthday, and for that I am thankful.  I am also thankful for my family, my friends, my faith and my health. Thankful that I don’t have any major medical issues but I do have a few concerns which I will address this year.

Water does a body good My number one concern is the lack of drinking water…not the lack of having fresh tap or bottled water like in some countries, but the lack of me actually drinking it.

Why Your Body Needs Water I am smart enough to know that my body needs water, but am not smart enough to drink more than just one 16.9 oz bottle a day!

I’m dehydrated and have begun to get the sharp pains, it’s like my kidneys are kicking me in the back and saying, “hey stupid, put down that wine and drink more water!”

According to the For Dummies website, “You must have water in your diet. It is brimming with minerals and electrolytes, and you can’t live without it. Water is a solvent. It dissolves other substances and carries nutrients and other material (such as blood cells) around the body, making it possible for every organ to do its job.”   Bottled Water

The #1 reason I don’t drink more water is because I’ve always had an overactive bladder which doesn’t bode well with a long commute, I would however, make a good spokesperson for Depends.  In order to prevent me from having to stop at a restroom on the way home, I’ll only drink 1 bottle with lunch.

Once home I conveniently forget to drink more and instead will have a few glasses of Red Wine which may be good for the heart but it makes my kidneys quite jealous.

This year I have made the wise decision to drink more water and to make sure I won’t forget, I’ll put it in a wine glass and add a few lemon slices.  This should be a good motivator, what do you think?

Do you have any other suggestions that will help me drink more water?

Water is good for the body

How about you, do you drink the recommended daily amounts of water?

BTW – did you notice my new blog design?  I want to thank Katherine @ Katherine’s Corner who created it for me.

I’ve been working on drinking more water too. It’s not an easy change to make! The first thing I did was give up (almost completely) drinking diet soda. Then we installed a water filter at our kitchen sink this fall and bought stainless steel water bottles ($5 at WalMart). My husband and I each take a bottle or two to work every day. I’m also making myself be more conscious of drinking water when I’m home. Like you I’m 50+, so I keep reminding myself that water helps me look and feel better and stay healthier! Good luck with your efforts.

Yes, so you understand, as we age we need water even more to keep everything running smoothly! I am making a conscience effort to drink more water and even have an infusion bottle which I never used. I just filled it with mixed frozen berries to take to work tomorrow. Happy Fri-Yay!

Water, water. I also have an overactive bladder and I cannot drink too much fluids If I am going too far from home. So, when I’m home I drink a lot. Some say we should drink 8 ozs, some say we should drink a quart. Which is correct? Anyway. . .drink up my youthful friend!

Love the new design. I do pretty good with my water intake. My body really lets me know on the days I cut it a bit short.

  • You should be drinking half your weight in oz. Maybe drink most of your water in the morning through lunch and resume when you’re home.

I was just about to mention your blog design. Looks absolutely fantabulous! LOL As far as your health, I hope you’re okay and I will keep you in my prayers. And concerning the water what I do to make sure my daughter and the rest of my family always gets enough water is I make a big pitcher of different flavored natural waters once a week. Like strawberry water, kiwi, lemon, orange and a couple others what I do is just cut up fresh fruit and put it in a big pitcher of water. I’ve noticed that all my family loves it this way because it’s so refreshing. Maybe that will help you as well. We definitely do drink a lot of water in my house I drink a gallon a day and my daughter drinks about the same. she either asks for milk, water or fruit water.

Thank you so very much, nothing serious, just need to get to a periodontist – been putting it off for far too long! But I took your advice and now I have a bottle of water infused with fruit which I will start my day with, and then carry one to work along with regular water. You know as women we always puts ourselves last, but I am resolving to do a better job of taking care of my own health. Happy Fri-Yay!

  • oh sweetie, yes drink your water! I fill a 64 ounce jug in the morning after I have my tea and then I just drink it all day long. On the weekends I have a diet lemon lime shasta after all of my water is gone. Water is great for your skin, hair, kidneys and all of your organs. I had kidney stones in the early 90’s all I used to drink was diet pepsi, juice and tea. What a very painful lesson that was to learn. two surgeries and a stint….drink up my friend, Thank you for mentioning your blog makeover too Happy bloggers make me smile. Thank you so much for helping to make the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop so much fun Hugs!

Thank you, I am trying and have been doing much better – don’t want to deal with kidney stones or any other ailment especially as I get older. Thank you for all that you do as well, you are a very nice person and I am so glad to have “met” you. Now go catch up on your emails – lol!

If commuting is an issue, upon arrival to work, drink a full bottle in the first hour and another with lunch. 🙂
