Mini Maxi Haul from Kohl’s

Do you remember my Kohl’s mini haul during the Labor Day weekend? Well I didn’t get a chance to wear the blue sleeveless dress, but I did wear one of the maxi skirts.  I don’t know about you but I love high waist skirts and jeans so this was a perfect skirt to wear to work.

When I wore this outfit it was still relatively warm, but the weather has changed so it is definitely time for Autumn attire, so the next time you see this skirt it will be most likely be with worn with boots and a sweater.

Avon Accessories – ‘this is not your grandmother’s Avon’

If you read this post that I wrote back in 2013 but still haven’t seen an Avon Catalog lately, then may I once again suggest that you go online at www.youravon.com/ablake to check out some of the wonderful clothes and accessories now available at Avon.

If I heard it once, I’ve heard it a million times, “I didn’t know Avon sold dresses and shoes”. Well they do and as an Avon Independent Sales Rep for over 10 years, it still amazes me how Avon evolves to keep current with the times even after 125 years.  Yes, Avon has been in business for over 125 years! Now that’s a track record you don’t normally hear about, especially in today’s economy.

 Avon Accessories

Anywho, I wanted to show you just a few items that are available in the Avon catalogs and why it pays for you to check it out.  This black dress, goldtone tote, wristlet, watch, ring necklace, bracelet and watch are all from Avon!

Wearing White is Alright After Labor Day

Wearing White is Alright After Labor Day!

Would you wear white after Labor Day?   I did and so should you! Just like being sleeveless after fifty, you can also wear white after Labor Day because it is no longer considered a fashion faux pas.

fashion after fifty casual Friday

On a warm end of the summer casual Friday, I wore my favorite white pants for only the second time in the season.  Not only was I cool, comfy and casual, I didn’t spill a thing on them and you know that I am afraid to wear white – remember this post?

Avon Again

Okay, I know this is a shameless plug, but when you find clothing and accessories at a reasonable price AND you don’t need to leave your home to purchase them it’s a win win – so here we go again with another outfit from Avon!

clothing and accessories from Avon

One thing that I love about shopping Avon is that their clothing is true to size. I have gained several pounds over the last few years thanks to menopause and red wine, but I have yet to purchase a dress that didn’t fit and flatter my figure better than one from Avon.

clothing and accessories from Avon

This particular style is very flattering to every figure because of the lace in the front and back as it gives an illusion of being smaller than you are. The animal print purse from Mark/Avon can be worn over the shoulder with the strap attached or as a clutch with the strap placed inside.

fashion for women over fifty

Same thing with shoes from Avon, I wear a comfortable size 9 and their shoes are definitely true to size. However, if you wear a half size it is suggested you order a size up. I purchased these two-tone pumps before the dress but it’s a perfect match – what do you think?

clothing and accessories from Avon

As far as accessories are concerned, Avon definitely shines in this area, everything from earrings, necklaces to bracelets, rings and watches, including this cute ring/bracelet set.

I have a drawer full of accessories that I have yet to wear, but love the style and keep them for one of those “just in case” moments. I wore this outfit to work last week and felt cute all day, I almost went out after work but hubby wasn’t feeling too well.

Anywho, this outfit will definitely be back in rotation before the winter winds set in.

Pops of Peach

Pops of Peach

On September 20, 1961, I was born, which means today is my birthday – my 54th BIRTHDAY to be exact. I was going to sleep in but I have an appointment qt 11:00 am to have a professional headshot taken and I am really looking forward to that.

Later on if  hubby is feeling we may be head out to lunch mid-afternoon.  I did, however, want to pop in first to show you one of the outfits that I wore to work last month.

outfit of the day

It wasn’t anything fancy, just a plain black pencil skirt with a beige and black sleeveless top which both have been hanging in my closet for years.  The shoes also a combination of black and taupe were purchased from The Shoe Dept in the Exton Mall.  I wanted to jazz it up a bit so I chose to add a few Peach accessories which also match my toenail polish.

tote from Avon

If you recall from one of my videos, this was a tote that I had ordered from Avon and I love the color because it’s one that I hadn’t seen in the stores, I do have a few others that were purchased from Walmart. I love the size of these tote bags as I can just grab one, throw my stuff into it and hit the road.

tote bag purchased from Avon

The peach bracelet was purchased from Old Navy, and I have several in different colors as they were less than $2.00 each on clearance.  The ring was a “dollar discount” find.

I also wore this peach tote with a thrifted black and white dress which you will see below.

One Day at a Time

Hello friends, I trust you all had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was busy as usual, starting with another Yard Sale Saturday morning where I also recorded a brief video on Periscope, “Toni’s Tips for a Successful Yard Sale” check it out here.  This month I scheduled the Yard Sale to begin an hour later at 8:00 am and then it rained so I didn’t make as much money as I normally do.  I did however, make enough extra pocket change for a few trips to the grocery store including getting ingredients for yesterday’s Slow Cooked Lamb Riblets.  It also gave me yet another opportunity to clear out more clothes, shoes and accessories from my closet.

wearing a maxi skirt to work

Speaking of clearing out closets, today’s featured outfit is a closet staple which won’t be going anywhere anytime soon because  it’s comfy, fits well and it’s is a maxi skirt, what more can I say.

wearing a mxi skirt to work

This maxi skirt was purchased from Marshall’s and it part of the Valerie Bertinelli  collection, and for you old heads, you may remember when she play Barbara Cooper on the 70’s sitcom “One Day at a Time” which is actually still being shown every night on Antenna TV.  For you youngsters, she was also married to rocker Eddie Van Halen and now has a cooking show on the Food Network, oh and she was born in Wilmington, Delaware which I never knew.

maxi skirt from Marshall's

Anywho, I haven’t shopped Marshall’s in a long time so I am not sure what other items are in her collection, but I do love this multi-patterned skirt.  I believe this top was also purchased at Marshall’s, however, it could be from Ross.

Valerie Bertinelli maxi skirt Taking it one day at a time is also today’s theme as you may have gathered if you read my earlier post.  This is the anniversary of the death of my sister, Gloria.  One Day at a Time is the only way to keep a positive outlook on life when tragedy strikes at an early age; so as I close out another day without my lil sis, I want thank you all for helping to heal a whole in my heart with your love and support.

Enjoy the rest of your day and we’ll chat soon!

Women’s Wear from Rugged Wearhouse

Hello friends and welcome to another edition of Sunday Style in September. If you follow me on Instagram then you would have seen this dress and tote that I wore two weeks ago. My son and I went to Rugged Wearhouse in Glasgow with the intent of finding him a backpack to carry his laptop. Unfortunately, he didn’t find a backpack, instead he found a gym bag with the Eagle’s logo on it which is his favorite NFL Team #FlyEaglesFly

Sunday Styling

When shopping at Rugged Wearhouse I normally head straight to the shoes and then over to the accessories which is where I saw this cute blue tote. I, however, had no intentions of purchasing until I saw the dress!

Summer sleeveless dress

A perfect sleeveless dress and in my size. I don’t know about you, but it seems as though whenever I find something really cute in a store that doesn’t specialize in Misses clothing there is never one in my size so I lucked out with this find.  I also like the double layers coming down from the neckline, a very unique feature.

As the weather cools and we head into Autumn, I can still wear the dress with a cardigan or blazer over top and a pair of black or blue pumps.

Speaking of cooling weather, don’t even ask me how many times I went swimming during the heat of the summer!

I hope your day is as beautiful as you are!

You Pick the Purse 2

You Pick the Purse 2

Hubby’s 3rd chemo treatment last month was his worse, especially the days immediately following the Thursday shot, he had sore muscles, headaches and insomnia. However, after several restless nights he was finally able to get a good night’s sleep which meant he felt well enough to get up the next morning with me and offered to take a few pictures.

This photo shoot didn’t last long and I tried not to have too many retakes, but as you can tell by my smile which was in response to his, it was a good day! (Ice Cube voice).

You Pick the Purse

Instead of featuring a You Choose the Shoes episode which takes longer to shoot, I decided to do another episode of You Pick the Purse.

You Pick the Purse

This maxi skirt from Boscov’s is one of my favorites because of all of the vibrant colors. The green sleeveless tank was thrifted from Goodwill.

This first purse is from Walmart #yesWalmart and I also picked up one in the black, white and grey combination of colors.

This second purse/clutch was also thrifted from Goodwill and it’s a rattan fabric with colors that compliment the skirt, what do you think?

By the way, if you haven’t done so already, check out the new design of as well as read my posts on the Goodwillde.org blog.

So what do you think? With the wood and bead accessories and beige open toe wedges, which purse would you have worn with this outfit?

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers as hubby goes through this. God/Allah has all the power and soon this too shall pass leaving him stronger and healthier and back where he should be…have a mah-vah-lous day!

Fall Shoes are in Season @ Goodwill

Fall Shoes are in Season @ Goodwill

Slowly but surely I am pairing down my shoe collection as I didn’t wear as many of the summer sandals that I had in previous seasons. I wore far less than a dozen that I really liked including ballerina flats so I boxed up several pairs and donated them to our local Goodwill.

No, I didn’t buy any others to replace them but did realize that I had a pair of brand new sandals that were previously purchased that I hadn’t worn, so they will get a chance to be shoecasted this season!

Fall Shoes are in Season @ Goodwill

As a matter of fact these beige sandals were purchased last winter and they were part of a bigger donation from Target. If you are a true blue Goodwill thrifter then you know that several retail stores, including Target often ship their out of season items to Goodwill where you can find them on their “Boutique” racks.

The dress is from Ross Dress for less and with the multiple colors throughout, I thought the sandals were a perfect match.  The heel may be a bit chunky but it’s a nice color coordination nevertheless, what do you think?

A simple pair of gold hoops, an oversized ring and my wooden watch from Jord completes the outfit. Oh, and this off white purse was also thrifted from Goodwill.

I always spray thrifted shoes with a disinfectant spray no matter if they are new or not, and as a matter of fact, I spray all shoes that I purchase because I never know who tried them on before me!

Are you ready to transition your wardrobe from summer to autumn?

Sunday Style in September

Hello friends and happy 1st Sunday in September which also happens to be my birthday month #Virgo.  Today I attended Sunday service at Mt. Pisgah UAME. which is a small church that is less than a mile from my house.  Because it was yet another hot and humid day, I chose to wear this sleeveless dress and a pair of open-toe sandals.

Dress from Ross Dress for Less

If you didn’t have an opportunity to watch the Kohl’s mini haul video, check it out below and tell me if you liked the skirts.  The orange cross body bag was only $7.80 and it was the perfect size to carry to church.

By the way the Labor Day weekend holiday sale is still in effect, $10.00 off, $30.00 purchase plus Kohl’s Cash for every purchase over $50.00 and their clearance racks are packed.  You can either download the electronic coupon at www.kohls.com or find a paper coupon in Sunday’s circulars.

Dress from Ross Dress for Less

This dress was purchased at Ross Dress for Less, which is another store that I love not having to pay full retail price for clothing and accessories.

I hope you all are enjoying this long weekend, that is if you are off from work and I wish you all a wonderful Labor Day tomorrow.
