Save money by shopping Dollar General for Back to School & Dorm supplies
On Friday, Malik will be leaving to begin his 3rd year at Bowie State University, so last Saturday he and I did his annual “Back to the Dorm” shopping.
I can still remember his first year at college and how we practically broke the bank buying supplies that he really didn’t need nor want and wasted a lot of money.
Last year we made sure to only purchase items that he absolutely needed or items that we didn’t already have in the linen closet. No more new sheets and towels because we had plenty at home, “strip the bed not your savings”!
Dorm life is not for living in the lap of luxury, therefore, it is not necessary to purchase new dorm sheets, towels and pillow cases every year!

He didn’t need pillows but does need a rug
Our first stop was to Dollar General where he was able to purchase most if not all of his dorm supplies. Dollar General has a large selection of name brand items including Tide, Gain, Dove, Brut and Hanes all at everyday low prices.
Malik worked hard during the summer at Amazon so he understands the value of a dollar, therefore, he was very conscience about his purchases and only put in the cart what he absolutely needed.
However, he couldn’t pass up the automotive supplies even though his car will remain parked at home.
Dollar General carries a large selection of cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, toiletries, storage containers, small appliances, clothing, beverages and snacks.
If you have a son or daughter entering college and have received a list of must needed items, make sure to scrub that list to ensure your student will actually use the items.
Not everyone drinks coffee so pass up on that appliance!
You can save even more money by shopping at a local Dollar General to purchase the most needed items.

Dollar General accepts manufacturer’s’ coupons and they also have online digital coupons, just text JOIN to 34898 to sign up.
Whether you have a college bound student or one that will be entering elementary or high school I am sure Dollar General will have many of the supplies on their list.
Start the year off right by saving on school and dorm supplies at Dollar General.
Tip – purchase Detergent Pods as they are easier to transport to the dorm’s laundry room as opposed to large bottles of detergent and fabric softeners.

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday
Tonight I will be teaching the class, “Dressing for Success on a Budget’ sponsored by The Money School of Delaware. The premise being that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look professional and how to have a “Champagne Closet with a Beer Budget”
As a self proclaimed frugal fashionista, I usually don’t pay full retail price for my clothing nor do I shop high end department stores or boutiques in a mall. Thrifting at Goodwill or The Salvation Army, hitting a local Consignment Shop, low end retail sales and clearance shopping is much more fun and is easier on my wallet.
Chain stores such as Ross, Marshall’s, TJMaxx, Burlington Coat Factory, Rugged Wearhouse, and Target understands the needs of women who want designer clothing but with lower prices.
I read fashion magazines and blogs and try to stay current with the latest trends but if I can recreate an outfit with thrifted items from Goodwill I most certainly will!
When my sons were younger, they only knew the “Mart Brothers” – Kmart and Walmart!
Shoes are definitely my weakness and I have too many pairs to count, but I never pay full price, not when there are ways to get Reward Points from stores such as DSW or coupons and AAA discounts at Payless and of course the clearance sales at Target!

Fioni for Payless Peep Toe Pumps and Celine Inspired Tote from Ross
JC Penney and Sears may not be top on your shopping list but they should be, especially for their end-of-season clearance sales, remember the Liz Claiborne jeans I found for a dollar? Kohl’s is also another great place to shop for clearance deals. Mixing thrifted items with new pieces can make a perfect outfit.

Dress – JC Penney // Shoes – Payless

Thrifted Top – Goodwill // Skirt – JCPenney // Purse – Ross // Shoes – Rugged Wearhouse

Top – Ross // Skirt – Goodwill // Sandals – The Salvation Army Family Store

Shoes – Rugged Wearhouse // Dress – Boscov’s // Tote -Ross
Also, don’t sleep on the cheapie cheap Dollar Stores either, places like Family Dollar, Dollar General and even Dollar Tree oftentimes have great accessories like leggings, tights, hats and scarves. Remember this Fedora that I bought last summer from Dollar Tree!

Dollar Tree Dome and Sundress from Rugged Wearhouse
There are also great deals and bargains to be found online and from catalogs like eShakti, Spiegel and Avon all of which are my favorites.

Top – Rugged Wearhouse // Skirt – Old Navy

If you are attending a fancy soiree, try a high end online site such as “Rent the Runway” or “Beg Borrow Steal” and in a pinch go to a Consignment Shop located in a high end neighborhood which is how I found a gown for a Ball that I attended last year.
Dressing for less doesn’t mean you can’t afford better, nor does it have be an embarrasing event, however, I must admit that it can be addictive, especially on $2 Tuesdays at Goodwill!
Where do you shop for your bargains?

I was cleaning out my DIY supply drawer and found a roll of Zebra Print duct tape that was purchased from Dollar General and decided to do a quick project.
I covered a bracelet to wear with my Mossimo flats from Target.

Hello Friends and Happy Back to Work Monday!
The fog this morning was still quite thick making for a slow yet smooth commute into work. I guess a lot of people decided to work from home because the office is quiet, providing me an opportunity to take a few pictures in house. Unfortunately I no longer have the ability to work from home….those days are gone forever. How about you, does your employer provide a WFH or flexible work schedule policy?
