Easter Tie Dye DIY

To all of my Christian Friends

Happy Good Friday and have a Blessed Easter Sunday.

This weekend many moms and perhaps even a few dads will have their kids in the kitchen dyeing eggs for Easter.  They will then be hidden (and hopefully found) throughout the house or outdoors in celebration of the traditional Easter Egg Hunt.

I have always loved watching the White House Easter Egg Hunts on television, and often wished my sons and I could have attended one while President Obama was in the White House…oh well, this is the last one for he, the FLOTUS and the girls.

However, my sons were much too old for the Easter Egg Hunts during the Obama Presidency.  As a matter of fact this year we will be on the road Easter Sunday taking Malik back to Bowie as his Spring Break is officially over today!  #bummer

If you don’t have toddlers but do have teens or tweens that would prefer to tie dye clothing, and not eggs, here’s a post that I wrote in 2012.  It would be a perfect DIY for the Easter weekend or anytime you want to up-fashion a simple summer tshirt.

Tye Die DIY ingredients

I used a package of Tulip Fabric Dye, which in 2012 was $2.37 at Walmart but I am not sure how much it is today.

1/4 cup of salt; wooden stick, aluminum pan from the Dollar Store and a gallon of boiled water.

soak the tshirt in the dye for an hour

I followed the directions on the package, however, I did not stir it for an hour, I just made sure the shirt was total submerged and then let it sit for an hour.

I wrapped rubber bands around for the other shirt and placed it in the pan for only 30 mins.  Place a plastic table cloth or garbage bags underneath the pan before filling it just in case there’s any spillage.

I rinsed both shirts in cool to warm water, dunking them both until the water was mostly clear.  You can also take them outside and use a garden hose which might make the task easier and quicker.

Using a free sample of Shout Color Catcher I washed the tshirts on a quick cycle in cold water, no detergents.

Hang to dry indoors or out and it’s ready to wear.  Depending on the look you want to achieve you can add accessories such as a belt, scarf or statement necklace to dress it up.

Weekend Wind-Down Party | Bloggers Networking

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!

I trust you all had a wonderful week and are now gearing up for a fun filled or relaxing weekend. It was definitely a busy week for me and the fam, Malik was on Spring break so he was able to shovel 2 yards of mulch into the backyard, needless to say, he wasn’t happy but it needed to be done. Saturday, I cleaned out the garage and replaced part of the gate around the pool injuring my arm in the process – hubby couldn’t help which made the job a bit more difficult but at least it’s done! Homeowners always remember, “you never own a house, the house owns you!”

Resurrection Sunday after Sunrise Service I came home and took a nap. Later in the day I did a little yard work only to get my first dose of poison oak clearing out the garden, don’t ask me how because it always seems to find me.  I read a blog post that stated banana peels are good to stop the itch so I tried it, it worked but only temporary, so if you have a better remedy please share.

If you follow me on Instagram you know that Easter dinner was wonderful, Turkey Ham with pineapples, collard greens, sweet potatoes and a No-Bake Strawberry Cheesecake for dessert – yum!

Welcome back to the Weekend Wind-Down Party, I don’t know about you but I am having a great time – so many great posts – thank you!

Hello Friends and Happy Good Fri-Yay!

I trust you all had a wonderful week despite the fact that Tuesday was Tax Day.  Unfortunately, we owe money to Uncle Sam so at 7:00 p.m. I was in line at the Post Office mailing in a payment.  Oh well, it could be worse so I am not going to complain too loudly about it.

Saturday I went to Home Depot and purchased patio cushions for the deck furniture and a new Pressure Washer, something we desperately needed, stay tuned for an unsolicited product review.  Oh and I finally received my “Blogger” license plate – I am super excited and proud to advertise my blog daily across two states.

This weekend the weather won’t be as nice, but we will be outside cleaning out the garage and shoveling mulch…thank goodness it’s not snow!

I Got It @Goodwill

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday

Can you feel it?  Can you smell it?  Can you hear it?  Spring is right around the corner and the temps are rising, the air is clearer and the birds are chirping louder! Spring fever is definitely in full effect.

Last week I wore this totally thrifted outfit which was perfect for that in-between weather going from winter to spring.

I Got it @Goodwill

With a little snow still on the ground, I opted to wear tights to keep my legs warm.  I am anxiously looking forward to shedding them and breaking out the open toe shoes and then the sandals!

I Got it @Goodwill

How cute are these ankle strap wedges, and the patent leather reminds me of my Easter shoes as a kid.  Did you ever have a pair and they squeaked when you walked and you would shine them with vaseline?

Goodwill Goodies

In addition to the shoes and tote, these Goodwill goodies includes the skirt, top, belt, and blazer – an entire outfit for less than $20.00 ! #winning

I got it a Goodwill

The fact that this outfit matches the bench makes it even better, now let’s just hope we don’t get any more snow this winter!  Today I’ll be blog hopping with Whitney Nic James, Thrifter’s Anonymous and DC Goodwill Fashionista.

OOTD – Flower Power

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!

Today is actually my Friday as I will officially be on vacation starting at 5:00 p.m. today until next Tuesday- que up the Flintstone’s theme song – YabbaDabbaDoo!!!  I can’t believe it’s the Memorial Day Weekend already, seems like only yesterday it was Easter.  I guess it’s true what they say, the older you get the faster time passes.  Oh and before I have another senior moment – Congratulations to all the parents of the Class of 2013, you did an excellent job and should be very proud of yourself!

Today’s outfit is a floral dress thrifted from GW Boutique and sandals from Payless, which by the way is having a major sale, and don’t forget to show your AAA Card for an additional 10% off.

Shopping, Searching & Soul Food Saturday

Hello Friends and Happy Saturday

I hope you were treated to a beautiful Spring day with flowers in bloom and birds chirping their early Easter greetings.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hubby and I spent the day together which is a rarity because he’s usually visiting his mother in Wilmington. Next week is Spring Break so he’ll have more time to spend with her and today it was just the two of us. Unfortunately it was wasn’t a date or even romantic, we just went shopping at Lowe’s for a new kitchen sink faucet to replace the one that has been leaking for months – wasting both water and money.

Next we went to car dealerships in Newark and Wilmington checking out Certified Pre-Owned Hondas. It’s the last sales day of the month as well as the end of the quarter so they were extremely busy.

Finding nothing in our price range we ended our day at L&G Soul Food Southern Cuisine for dinner. We ordered platters for us as well as the boys and once home we all enjoyed fried Whiting, collard greens, mac n cheese, string beans, coleslaw and corn bread …needless to say, “itis” kicked in shortly afterwards but it was too late for a nap.
