Thank you for voting and for all of your comments in last week’s You Choose The Shoes contest. I hope you are having as much fun as I am with this mid-week blog feature. There were many comments and suggestions but the overwhelming majority chose the UrbanOg sandals.
This week’s contenders includes a recently purchased pair of sandals from Payless versus the Paula Abdul Forever collection from Avon.
The fuchsia sandals are by far my favorite pair of the season, I am so glad that I decided to stop in at Payless during a recent sale at the Exton Square Mall. Not that I don’t love these black and white sandals from Avon because they are great to wear with different outfits and are my go-to shoes for church.
If I am not mistaken, this faux wrap dress was purchased at JC Penney and the colors work well with both pair of sandals, what do you think? I am very upset that JC Penney was shut down at the Exton Square Mall as they had some great clearance bargains.
It was such a bright sunny Sunday that it was hard to keep from squinting, so concentrate on the shoes instead of my eyes!

Here we are again, at the end of another blessed week and knocking on the door to what should be a gorgeous weekend. Hubby and I have a wedding to attend tomorrow and on Sunday we will be taking our son out to dinner to celebrate his 22nd Birthday. His birthday was actually on Monday but if you read yesterday’s post you’d know that I was in Atlantic City so we didn’t get to celebrate. He is also scheduled to have maxillofacial surgery on Monday morning, so please pray for a successful procedure.
Take a look at these guys, I saw them on the Boardwalk in AC and thought about how much this means to me in my daily life.

Can you believe that it’s already the first Friday in May? Memorial Day is right around the corner so I know this week’s party is going to feature a lot of fabulous recipes, fashions and DIY’s to kick off the summer season. I trust you all had a wonderful week and are now gearing up for a fun filled or relaxing weekend. It was definitely a busy week for me and the fam, Malik was on Spring break so he was able to shovel 2 yards of mulch into the backyard, needless to say, he wasn’t happy but it needed to be done. Saturday, I cleaned out the garage and replaced part of the gate around the pool injuring my arm in the process – hubby couldn’t help which made the job a bit more difficult but at least it’s done! Homeowners always remember, “you never own a house, the house owns you!”
Resurrection Sunday after Sunrise Service I came home and took a nap. Later in the day I did a little yard work only to get my first dose of poison oak clearing out the garden, don’t ask me how because it always seems to find me. I read a blog post that stated banana peels are good to stop the itch so I tried it, it worked but only temporary, so if you have a better remedy please share.
If you follow me on Instagram you know that Easter dinner was wonderful, Turkey Ham with pineapples, collard greens, sweet potatoes and a No-Bake Strawberry Cheesecake for dessert – yum!

With my son’s graduation right around the corner on the 22nd of May it’s time to get some yard and house work done which will begin in earnest tomorrow.
Tonight I begin the income taxes and no, I didn’t start them last Friday but now I have hit the deadline wall!

Friday night I attended “High Heels in High Places” which was presented by NABFEME, the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment, Inc. This FREE event was held at the Nemours Building in Wilmington and was sponsored by Sisterent.com.
Johnnie Walker, President and CEO of NABFEME kicked off the evening with a brief description and stated the the mission of NABFEME, which “was created to be a vehicle of support that would increase the awareness and raise the profile of minority women in entertainment.”
Demia Avery, owner of Avery Sisters Entertainment was the MC and sat on the dais with 10 empowered women representing industries and positions that included: Sales and Hospitality; Entrepreneurship; Authors; Music and Concert Promotion; Fashion; Life Empowerment Coach; Entertainment Attorney; and Recording Artists.
Friend and owner of Mejah Books, Emylyn DeGannes was one of the panelist, and you may remember her from a previous feature on my blog (click here).
This 3-hour interactive event was a “power surge” from ladies-in-the-know to help others grow. The audience participation was lively with great questions and observations as well as few light hearted comments from a man in attendance.
“Don’t Try It – Just Do It” was one of the well received catch phrases, “Mentors Are Angels in Disguise”; “Live Out Your Passion and You’ll Never Work” and “Stand and Be Still – With God Nothing is Impossible” were the major themes throughout the night and struck a cord with many of the attendees.
The evening ended with networking, exchanging of cards and group photos. It was a great event and I would like to thank Avery Sister Entertainment for bringing NABFEME to Wilmington and look forward to other empowering events in Delaware.
This has truly been an exhausting week and I’m glad that in less than 24 hours it will officially be the weekend!!! Hubby is doing well and should be home from the hospital early next week. In the meantime I am enjoying the little break, I only have to make my side of the bed and the bathroom is all mine – lol!

This month is running wild and flying by way too quickly, there has been a whirlwind of activity in my life and that’s not even including the last snowstorm of the season. (fingers crossed) All of it has definitely been wonderful and exciting, some I can speak about, others not just yet, but it’s all good news!
I lost my 2005 Hyundai Sonata due to engine failure and replaced her with a 2010 Hyundai Accent.
Hubby completed his retirement paperwork, so on July 1st, he will officially be retired from the State of Delaware – congrats, I’ll give you the “honey-do” list on the 1st of August, a few weeks before our 24th Wedding Anniversary.
The 2014 Goodwill Runway Show was fantastic, I hope you had an opportunity to read the post, if not, click here. I twisted my ankle a few hours before the event and had to change shoes 3 times, but thankfully, it wasn’t worse and I made it through the night with a smile!
On Tuesday I taught a Blogging 101 Class which is sponsored by The Money School of Delaware and there were some awesome attendees whose participation was great.
Tomorrow the temps are expected to reach the upper 50’s, so if you are getting a jump on your Spring Wardrobe don’t forget to enter to win a $50 Gift Certificate to Midnight Velvet.
