On Saturday I purchased three seasoning packs from Sugar Spice and Everything Nice: Buffalo Bleu, Cracked Crab and Habanero & Green Chile. On the back of each label is a recipe for making a Dip but I decided to use the Buffalo Bleu as a seasoning for a crockpot meal.
Ingredients:
Frozen chicken thighs
Package Buffalo Bleu seasoning
1 cup water
Jasmine Rice
Mandarin Oranges (optional)
Spray Crockpot with cooking spray or use a Slow Cooker liner for easy clean up
Mixed seasoning with 1 cup water – could have used less but didn’t want dry chicken
Place frozen chicken thighs in crockpot, cover with seasoning mix, cook on low
Returned home to a kitchen smelling wonderful!
Cooked rice according to instructions, warmed oranges in microwave for a few seconds
Chicken and rice was served with a small salad and was delicious. The seasoning did not make the chicken overly spicy nor salty as I expected, I used drippings over rice. My men and I thoroughly enjoyed this dish and am looking forward to using the Habanero & Chile seasoning as a dip.
Paired extremely well with a glass (or two) of Liberty Creek Sweet Red Wine !

I know there is still snow on the ground and the temps are in the teens but if you are anything like me you don’t wait for March or April to begin Spring Cleaning. Unfortunately cleaning is constant…dust doesn’t take a break AND you never own a house, the house owns you!
I don’t have a baby but because I was my grandmother’s caregiver I have several packs of baby wipes left after she transitioned. I keep a tub of them in each bathroom to use as quick cleaning wipes they are thick and just the right size to use on the countertops and faucets, if used on the toilet seat I’ll add a little Pinesol. They are are less costly than the leading cleaning wipes and they don’t contain harsh chemicals so there’s no need to use gloves
In the hall on baseboards and walls – does not harm the paint
In the bedroom – delicate enough to remove dust from lamp shades and blinds
Dusting in the family room
In the kitchen
On carpet they are strong enough to pick up hair and dirt without falling apart

Each time I shop at Dollar Tree I always find a new bargain, today it was French Baguettes and Twizzlers. My men loves this candy and it was a good deal because Rite Aid is advertising the same for $1.99. I am really looking forward to baking the French Baguette because bread is my weakness, I’ll post the results before I eat it!

Have you ever gone to someone’s home and a smell, a sound or an object reminded you of a good childhood memory? The other day I delivered an Avon order to Miss. Christine, a good friend of my grandmother’s from the MOT Senior Center. In all the years that they were friends and before my grandmother passed, I had never gone to her house. The moment I pulled into the driveway memories of going to Cousin Bessie’s house in Port Chester, NYcame flooding back.
My grandmother raised my sister and me in the projects in New Rochelle, NY, I wouldn’t call it a concrete jungle but it wasn’t a grassy knoll either. Entering Miss. Christine’s house reminded me of visiting and going through Cousin Bessie’s house, looking at all the nick nacks, sneaking candy from the jar and shaking the snow-globe then holding it still until all the flakes fell back into place.
Growing up in the 60’s/70’s life was simpler but the small things meant a great deal. You weren’t supposed to be in grown folks business and if you fell or got hurt you were told to just get up and next time don’t be so clumsy!
Entering the back yard through the metal gate, there sits an old red wagon
Miss. Christine’s house was built in the 50’s and decorated in the 60’s and would now be considered retro in 2012. From the paneled walls, metal hand rails to the big spoon and fork on the kitchen wall, it all just took me back to Port Chester, NY and the happy family times we had when visiting that home.

Back TV room for the "men folk"
Wallpapered powder room with wall mounted Dixie Cup dispenser.
Upstairs living room for the grown folks - "stay outta grown folks business, now get your candy and git!"
Love these stools and kitchen chairs - never replaced or worn out
I think every kitchen had the large spoon and fork hanging on the wall
ceiling mounted glass cabinet
Fluorescent lights mounted to the side of the cabinets
There were always some gardening tool around and parents weren't concerned - if you got hurt it's because you shouldn't have been touching it! Kids today are too protected from every day disappointments and mishaps!
