Hello Friends and Happy Tax Day Tuesday!
If you’re anything like me no matter what year in your career you’re in, the countdown to retirement has begun. I never told hubby, but when he signed his retirement papers on the 28th of February I was extremely jealous! It’s not that I’m ready to sit home and do nothing or pack my bags and start traveling, I am just looking forward to the day when I have the option to work or NOT!
At this point in my life I am too young and active to retire or at least retire without a plan, which is why this blog is part of a bigger 5-year plan. I’ve thought about starting a small business, but it would have to one of little to no stress and definitely little to NO commuting involved!
Ideally, I would love to sit on the dock of a bay with a laptop or tablet writing and creating. Perhaps I’ll have a little shack where tourist can purchase fishing bait and tackle!

There was an article published in USA Today that caught my attention, it stated that “more older entrepreneurs are starting businesses after they’ve worked and retired from other careers”. They have been labeled “encore entrepreneurs”. An encore entrepreneur is someone over the age of 50 who starts a small business or begins a new career. Some of these small businesses are non-profits that provide a social need such as job training for the unemployed. Others turn their hobby or passion into an income stream which is part of my 5-year plan.
Of course as with any new start-up there are obstacles and challenges, but with age comes wisdom and knowledge both of which are a plus for the encore entrepreneur. Job layoffs, supplementing or replacing income are just a few reasons for starting a business after the age of 50.
However, with people living longer becoming an encore entrepreneur gives us an opportunity to stay active and do something that perhaps we’ve always wanted to do.
What about you, are you ready to retire or regroup and become an encore entrepreneur?

Hello Friends and Happy Ju’last day in July!
I hope it’s just a beautiful where you are as it is here because we have been experiencing wonderful weather this week. Tomorrow calls for a little rain but the rest of the week and into the weekend will be simply gorgeous! I have two blogging assignments scheduled for Thursday, one is a meeting to discuss doing a review for the Grand Opening of the Westown Movie Theater coming to Middletown this fall. Then mid-morning I will be heading to Wilmington to take pictures and interview young entrepreneurs who have completed “The Chasing The Dream Entrepreneurship Camp” sponsored by The Money School of Delaware.
I have taken the day off from work, however, if you’re working tomorrow in Wilmington, please stop by Rodney Square between 11 and 1 for the “Chasing The Dream Entrepreneurship Marketplace”. Students learned about starting businesses and now they have an opportunity and tools to run those businesses so please come out and support (don’t forget to bring an umbrella).

What do they say about “neighbors and fences”?
The weather could stay like this for the rest of the year and I don’t think anyone would mind a day of rain!

Have a fantabulous day – Smooches!

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!
AARP Membership requests began hitting my mailbox way back in my 40’s and now that I am almost 52, I guess the time has come to consider joining. I am reluctantly accepting the fact that I’m approaching the “S E N I O R” category – REALLY??!! Hubby and I have been joking for years and betting on who would join first….I’d push the envelop away and say, “oh no I’m too young”, and he’d look at me side-eyed and smirk.
Offers of a Free Gift to join had oftentimes been tempting and there are definitely some great benefits including discounts at Ross Stores on Tuesdays! Discounts on travel, food, entertainment, health, insurance, shopping, education and training and so much more should have been reason to sign up with a quickness, but I just couldn’t do it. I had also loved the fact that they provide information on Long Term Care options, Employment Postings, even starting a new business, the benefits of being an AARP member far outweigh the small price to join.
I’ve finally made up my mind and submitted an online membership application, and then I entered the AARP Real People Model Search just for the heck of it. I don’t expect to be chosen but it seemed like something fun to do as well as memorable to mark the occasion as I approach the wonderful world of “Senior Citizenship”.
If you would like to vote for me, click here, and look for Antionette B in Delaware.
