Small Business Saturday – Main Street Middletown

Today in celebration of “Small Business Saturday” I met my girlfriend at The Java House Cafe in Middletown, not just for Mark’s famous Jerk Chicken Panini’s but for the pleasure of supporting this local business. According to statistics small businesses have created two of every three U.S. jobs and to spur further job growth, the Obama administration aims to cut taxes for small businesses and expand entrepreneurs’ access to financing.

The Java House Cafe is a striving local business that has received numerous accolades as well as visits from Governor Markell. The atmosphere inside the cafe is warm and inviting with plenty of space for a relaxing lunch or hosting an impromptu meeting with free WiFi access.

Our next stop was across the street to Purple Sage Herbs & Gifts. This wonderful world of sights and smells was established on Main Street in 2004, and it was my first visit, however, it definitely will not be my last. Upon entering the front door your nose is greeted with scents that immediately relaxes your mind body and soul. Nostalgia is the word that comes to mind, whether it’s the memories of your grandmother’s parlor or the smell of incenses burning in your living room it’s nothing but happy memories. I was so overwhelmed that I knew that I needed to come back just to take in all the herbs, teas, candles, skin care products, jewelry and other items that are so neatly and highly organized in this wonderful small town shop. FREE tea and coffee tastings take place the first Saturday of every month and they were voted the Best Gift Shop by Middletown Readers. There’s an upstairs which I didn’t take an opportunity to visit but they offer massages, Reiki, Reflexology, Body Wraps, Cranio Sacral, and other relaxing services, which are all perfect gift ideas, especially after the hectic holidays.

Our last stop was at the tattoo parlor owned and operated by Shane ONeill who was a winner of InkMaster on Spike TV.
We didn’t make a purchase and it was my first visit to a tattoo parlor – interesting to say the least. I secretly do want two small doves tated on my foot in memory of my sis and grandmother but would never have the nerve to get it done!
