You Choose the Shoes – Episode 13
Can you believe that it’s August and it’s almost time for “Back to School” Back to College”? I have two sons returning to college, one will be at home and the other one away, but it still seems like the summer flew by.
I just found more summer totes and purses under my bed! I have so many more pairs of summer shoes to wear – where did the time go – I am not ready for the warm weather to end!
I am not going to fret, but I may have to double up on the “You Choose the Shoes” episodes!
Both of my sons are working, so back to college shopping won’t break my budget this year – thank you Amazon Fulfillment Center and UDairy Creamery!
Malik has bought most of his “wants”, so we just have to hit the store for a few of his needs, ie. laundry detergent and sheets but not too much since he has most of what he needs from last year.
I will however, be hitting up Family Dollar for his health and toiletry products because they have a large assortment of name brand items for low prices. Check out next week’s post to see what I purchased.
This week’s contenders are both cutout wedges – yellow verses white. If you remember, I also have the first pair in Pink, and I will try to wear them before the end of the month in an OOTD.
I love wearing wedge heels as opposed to kitten or high heels because they give more support and makes walking a little easier.
What is your favorite style of shoe?
If you didn’t realized it by now, this just happens to be one of my favorite thrifted dresses not only because of how it fits but because of all the great colors!
So which one will it be – the white wedges….or
the yellow wedges?
Thank you all for your votes in Week 12, the winner was the solid red pair.
Are you ready for Back to School?

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday
Tonight I will be teaching the class, “Dressing for Success on a Budget’ sponsored by The Money School of Delaware. The premise being that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look professional and how to have a “Champagne Closet with a Beer Budget”
As a self proclaimed frugal fashionista, I usually don’t pay full retail price for my clothing nor do I shop high end department stores or boutiques in a mall. Thrifting at Goodwill or The Salvation Army, hitting a local Consignment Shop, low end retail sales and clearance shopping is much more fun and is easier on my wallet.
Chain stores such as Ross, Marshall’s, TJMaxx, Burlington Coat Factory, Rugged Wearhouse, and Target understands the needs of women who want designer clothing but with lower prices.
I read fashion magazines and blogs and try to stay current with the latest trends but if I can recreate an outfit with thrifted items from Goodwill I most certainly will!
When my sons were younger, they only knew the “Mart Brothers” – Kmart and Walmart!
Shoes are definitely my weakness and I have too many pairs to count, but I never pay full price, not when there are ways to get Reward Points from stores such as DSW or coupons and AAA discounts at Payless and of course the clearance sales at Target!
Christian Sirano for Payless
Fioni for Payless Peep Toe Pumps and Celine Inspired Tote from Ross
JC Penney and Sears may not be top on your shopping list but they should be, especially for their end-of-season clearance sales, remember the Liz Claiborne jeans I found for a dollar? Kohl’s is also another great place to shop for clearance deals. Mixing thrifted items with new pieces can make a perfect outfit.
Dress – JC Penney // Shoes – Payless
Thrifted Top – Goodwill // Skirt – JCPenney // Purse – Ross // Shoes – Rugged Wearhouse
Top – Ross // Skirt – Goodwill // Sandals – The Salvation Army Family Store
Shoes – Rugged Wearhouse // Dress – Boscov’s // Tote -Ross
Also, don’t sleep on the cheapie cheap Dollar Stores either, places like Family Dollar, Dollar General and even Dollar Tree oftentimes have great accessories like leggings, tights, hats and scarves. Remember this Fedora that I bought last summer from Dollar Tree!
Dollar Tree Dome and Sundress from Rugged Wearhouse
There are also great deals and bargains to be found online and from catalogs like eShakti, Spiegel and Avon all of which are my favorites.
Dress – Avon // Shoes Goodwill
Dress – Avon // Pumps – Goodwill
Top – Rugged Wearhouse // Skirt – Old Navy
Totally Thrifted outfit from Goodwill
Walmart Sundress covered with thrifted blouse
Thrifted dress with scarf purchased at a “Purse Party”
Rocket Dog Peep Toe Pumps from The Shoe Dept
Studded Shoes from Rugged Wearhouse
If you are attending a fancy soiree, try a high end online site such as “Rent the Runway” or “Beg Borrow Steal” and in a pinch go to a Consignment Shop located in a high end neighborhood which is how I found a gown for a Ball that I attended last year.
Dressing for less doesn’t mean you can’t afford better, nor does it have be an embarrasing event, however, I must admit that it can be addictive, especially on $2 Tuesdays at Goodwill!
Where do you shop for your bargains?
Have a fantabulous day – Smooches!

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday
I hope you had a good weekend with an opportunity to spend quality time with your family/friends and did something fun and enjoyable. Yesterday, I took my car in for an oil change and Malik was my chauffeur so I took full advantage by having him drive me all around town running errands – it was good being Mommy! I had him drive me to Dunkin Donuts, Dutch Country Farmers Market, Family Dollar, PNC Bank and then finally to Lowe’s it was fun for me, not so much for him.
We gave him Tayair’s old car, remember the 2002 Hyundai Elantra, well you would have thought it was a new Mercedes because when he realized the plants had to ride in the back seat he wasn’t happy! I purchased two hanging baskets, a Color Combo Patio plant, Sweet Basil, Heirloom Tomatoes, Curled Parsley and Cilantro and they rode shotgun in the back seat fully protected by a yard of plastic – it was hilarious!
Hanging baskets – Petunias, Calibrachoa and Lobelia
Curled Parsley – boil and drink like tea it’s great for the digestive system
Cilantro is a wonderful fragrant herb
Basil also keeps the bugs away from your garden
Fresh Garden Tomatoes – scents of summer
Hibiscus is a perfect patio plant
Color Combo Welcome Plant – Bidens, Licorice Plant and Trailing Petunia
Love the handles on these hanging baskets
Time to check out
Malik reluctantly loading the cart
The plants riding in the back seat (along with vacuum cleaner)
Today I cleaned in and around the pool and cleared out my little garden which was overrun with Mint from last year.

After
Have a wonderful evening – Smooches!

Hello friends and happy Saturday. Yesterday I left work early because I got really ill after eating a sample of pasta salad from Primo Hoagies. My head was spinning so badly that I didn’t think I would make it home. I did however, with a lot of prayer and by keeping my head steady and firmly pressed against the head rest. Because I rarely if ever get sick I always think the worst, this time a brain tumor or aneurysm came to mind – I know! I feel better but still have a dull headache which doesn’t seem to want to go away even with several Alleve capsules.
This morning I had my annual eye appointment and chose to have the full comprehensive Optomap and refraction exam to rule out any constricted blood vessels or major changes to my vision. Everything was normal and although I still have to wear glasses my vision got better, not worse. I took over 30 minutes, tried on more than 12 pairs looking for just the right frame to ensure I would wear the glasses as prescribed.
After leaving Halpern Eye Care I drove to Family Dollar for cleaning and beauty supplies. I got the normal items, PineSol, Gain detergent, cotton balls, tooth brushes and tooth paste but what caught my eye were the 3 displays perched high above the other beauty supplies – Sally Hansen, Kiss and Fingr’s nail decals. The Kiss and Fingr’s nail decals were clearly marked $3., but there wasn’t a price listed on the Sally Hansen products. Having bought Salon effects from both Walmart and Walgreens they are normally priced $8.50, so thinking they were at least that price I only put one box in my basket. At the register they rang up $5.00 which is a fantastic price, I will now search for coupons for my next purchase at Family Dollar.
Have a fantabulous night – Smooches!

Today was the first day of school for al-Malik and needless to say, he was not excited about boarding that bus this morning….kept whining something about wanting a car….in his dreams and my nightmares!!! Time sure does fly, after today I only have 1 more chance to get that “first day of school” picture, then he’s off to college!!! Where does the time go…I miss my babies 🙁
Hubby started back to school yesterday, he’s a Student Advisor in a Middle School. When I got home and asked how his day was, he was like…”oooh you know how it hard it is going back….” NOPE…cause I don’t get 3 months off in the summer buddy!!!! I have a house of whiners!!!!
