24th Wedding Anniversary | Lunch at The Riverfront

24 YEARS AGO TODAY

I MARRIED MY BEST FRIEND!

24th wedding anniversary

Yesterday hubby and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary a day early by having lunch at The Big Fish Grill on the Riverfront in Wilmington. We each ordered salads, hubby chose the Spinach salad with Tilapia and I ordered the Goat Cheese salad with Mahi Mahi. They were both very delicious and the service was great – thank you David.

It was a beautiful afternoon so afterwards we strolled along the Riverfront hand in hand talking and of course taking pictures, I even asked a few people to take our picture.

After lunch we both needed to take a walk!

Just as it was 24 years ago, it was a perfect day, bright and sunny.

I wore the floral dress purchased from Ross, sandals from Payless and the tote in which I used to carry my camera is from Avon.

My handsome hubby looked dapper yet casual enough for a stroll on the Riverfront.

Go To Bed Angry – You Need The Rest

Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday

If you’re married, I’m sure you’ve heard, “never go to bed angry”, but I disagree, sometimes I think you should go to bed angry – you need the rest. Don't go to bed angry

Yes, communication is important in a marriage but there are times when you don’t want to talk you just want to go to sleep. Who really wants to stay up late talking, arguing or trying to compromise, go to sleep, you need your rest, unless of course, it’s a life and death situation.

I met my husband at the age of 28, he was 32, we had both graduated from Delaware State College and each had our share of relationships.  We’d disagree on certain things because we were not raised by the same people in the same house, city or state, so having different upbringings made us think differently. Getting married and combining two lifestyles can be rough but that doesn’t mean we don’t love each other and can’t work together.

STOCK PHOTO

In the beginning our biggest arguments occurred after the death of my sister; giving birth to our oldest, a 3 month preemie who weighed 2 1/2 lbs and then moving my grandmother into the home, all of this was before our 2nd Wedding Anniversary.

We would argue, or he would get moody, I call it male PMS, (MMS) and we wouldn’t talk to each other for days. We’d go to bed angry and I’d sleep like a baby because I needed the rest and having him stay on his side of the bed and me on mine made for uninterrupted sleep.

sleep on your side

plot his death There were many times that I wanted to kill him and I’d lay in bed thinking of ways to do it and how to hide the body without getting caught.  The fear of going to prison always stopped me, I knew my sons would rat me out once they found out that their daddy was buried in the backyard under the tomato plants!

Once hubby finishes his MMS cycle, after a couple of days of complete silence, I’ll walk by him and he’ll grab me for a kiss.  Later on that night it’s on and popping and I’m fine with that because am thankful for having those few nights of rejuvenating rest. on and poppin

Going to bed angry isn’t the end all, if you can’t agree or compromise just go to bed angry, you need the rest and hopefully in the morning you’ll feel better.

This works for us, but it may not for you, so if you rather stay up all night to talk and argue that’s fine, but for me, I go to bed angry because I need the rest!

BTW, we have been married for 23 years and for that I am thankful!

Have you ever gone to bed angry at your significant other?

I am also thankful for my family, you my bloggy friends and of course my faith, how about you, what are you thankful for this week?

Weekend Wind-Down Party #9

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!

This month is running wild and flying by way too quickly, there has been a whirlwind of activity in my life and that’s not even including the last snowstorm of the season. (fingers crossed)  All of it has definitely been wonderful and exciting, some I can speak about, others not just yet, but it’s all good news!

  • I lost my 2005 Hyundai Sonata due to engine failure and replaced her with a 2010 Hyundai Accent.
  • New Car Purchased at Carman
  • Hubby completed his retirement paperwork, so on July 1st, he will officially be retired from the State of Delaware – congrats, I’ll give you the “honey-do” list on the 1st of August, a few weeks before our 24th Wedding Anniversary. honey do list
  • The 2014 Goodwill Runway Show was fantastic, I hope you had an opportunity to read the post, if not, click here.  I twisted my ankle a few hours before the event and had to change shoes 3 times, but thankfully, it wasn’t worse and I made it through the night with a smile!
  • Goodwill Runway Show On Tuesday I taught a Blogging 101 Class which is sponsored by The Money School of Delaware and there were some awesome attendees whose participation was great.

23rd Wedding Anniversary Dinner

Hello Friends and Happy Friday Eve!

On Sunday hubby and I celebrated our 23rd Wedding Anniversary and had dinner at our favorite restaurant, Chesapeake Inn and Marina.  This lovely restaurant is located in Chesapeake City, Maryland on the waterfront and overlooks the C&D Canal.  We have enjoyed having our Anniversary dinner here for years not only because of it’s location which is only 10 mins from the house, but because it has the best seafood and the atmosphere is enjoyable.

Before leaving for the evening our son took a few pictures of us on the back deck.

Friday Foodie Feature – Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauce

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!

Wow, what a whirlwind week…why is it that in the winter months time drags and moves slowly but when it’s summer it speeds by like a freight train on steroids?

In 2 days we’ll be celebrating 23 years of marriage, and yes, that too seems like it flew by.  There were times when we experienced “winter months” and time lagged, but with the grace of God, we are now in our “summer” months – like a freight train on steroids – lol!

If you are like me, you are still grilling outdoors and this may be an early start for an indoor Crockpot meal, but I wanted to try the Campbell’sSlow Cooker Sauce.

Ingredients:

  • Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauce – Sweet Korean BBQ w Roasted Ginger & Sesame
  • Jasmine Rice – Dellarice.com
  • Beef – 2-3 lbs
  • Slow Cooker/Crock Pot

Salvation Army $avings 013

The beef was placed in the Crock Pot, did not use cooking spray nor add any water

Salvation Army $avings 015

Salvation Army $avings 016

Covered beef with Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauce

Salvation Army $avings 019

7 hours on low

Salvation Army $avings 021 (1)

Shredded beef with 2 forks

Salvation Army $avings 034

Cooked rice as package directions and covered with shredded beef

Salvation Army $avings 025

My sons love tacos and burritos so I made these for them.

Salvation Army $avings 029 (1)

There are 3 other Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauces that I’ll try, and this Korean BBQ was just the right blend.  It wasn’t too salty which would have been a turn off for me.

Do you use the Slow Cooker in the summer?

Have a fantastical day – Smooches!

Dress Shoes on the Cheap

Tomorrow hubby and I will be celebrating our 22nd Wedding Anniversary at our favorite restaurant in Newark. I will be wearing the blue dress that I purchased from Boscov’s and for the life of me I couldn’t remember if I had shoes to wear with it. Driving home I contemplated stopping at the mall but I didn’t want to spend a lot on a pair of shoes that most likely will be worn only a few times.
I drive by a Goodwill so I decided to stop and found 2 pairs of shoes for $4.00 each! In the past I would never have purchased second hand shoes but thanks to the recession that is no longer unthinkable.

Most times the shoes are gently worn or haven’t been worn at all and I make sure to thoroughly disinfectant them prior to wearing. I donate shoes to Goodwill all the time and there are times when women have tried on shoes in the department store prior to my purchasing them so it’s no big deal.

20120810-204533.jpg
I spray and wipe out the shoes and straps while wearing plastic or rubber gloves, and for non-fabric shoes I use bleach and water.

Boscov’s DoorBuster Deals

Run don’t walk to Boscov’s for their latest “DoorBuster” deals!!!  One of the many featured items are ladies maxi and knee length dresses for $19.99,  and the selection is huge!!  Also featured are select Preswick & Moore Separates for $6.99 each, this collection is versatile and is perfect for the workplace.  There’s a large selection of  summer shoes and sandals on sale as well as racks and racks of clearance merchandise marked 50-75% off.  I purposely did not get a cart and could have spent all afternoon shopping but chose to use restraint and purchased only a few items which I will post later.  On my way home I may stop at the Boscov’s in the Concord Mall but I prefer Exton because they have such nice cashiers, especially Edwin.  This definitely was a great way to start the weekend and I hope you are having a wonderful FRI-YAY!!

I purchased this hi-low dress to wear to dinner in celebration of our 22nd Wedding Anniversary tomorrow

Here it is in pink

Definitely can be worn into the fall

Really nice asymmetrical design

So many colors and styles

I love this color combination

Can you believe it – $6.99 for these skirts, pants, blouses

and cardigans!
