1. What is the best New Years Eve you’ve ever had?
New Year’s Eve has always been good but I still miss my grandmother who passed away in 2009 – at midnight we were always on our knees together in prayer or on the phone wishing each other a Happy New Years. RIP Mama!
2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?
Yes, cooking our traditional meal of fried chicken wings, collard greens and black eye peas. At midnight, hubby and sons are on our knees in prayer. then back to watching The Twilight Zone Marathon!!
Name a book we should all read come January?
I don’t know, I am still trying to read my magazines from 2010!
What are your New Years resolutions?
Same as every year – lose weight!
Happy New Years!!

Hello Friends, I hope you are enjoying the last Saturday of 2012
This afternoon it started to snow so it was a perfect day to take down the tree and remove decorations in preparation of having a clean house the first day of 2013. Along with having a clean house, frying chicken wings, cooking collard greens and black eyed peas has been my New Years’ Eve tradition for many years. Long gone are the days of hanging out at the clubs and popping Champagne bottles at midnight. At midnight we are on our knees in prayer, then we eat and continue watching The Twilight Zone Marathon, my favorite episode is “Time Enough At Last” with Burgess Meredith.
Today I am wearing a handmade, fully lined, African mud cloth cape that my husband had made for me over 16 years ago. I don’t wear it often but it hangs prominently in my coat closet and I’ll keep it forever. It’s a one of a kind cape made by Nzinga Debrick, a friend of my husbands who owns Nzinga’s Cultural Connection a boutique in Wilmington. The cape is trimmed in leather including the button hooks and the attached scarf matches the trim around the buttons and pockets.

Black Jeans and boots – closet staples

The animal print cap belonged to my grandmother and I paired it with the cape to keep my head dry

Hello Friends and Happy Thursday, I hope you are having a pleasant day.
Yesterday I spent the day cleaning out closets gathering clothes to be donated to Goodwill which is what we did this afternoon. Malik drove and after donating two boxes of clothes and two tv’s we drove by a dumpster where he saw two speakers – yes, he got one, brought it home; it worked so he went back and got the other one (que the theme song to Sanford and Son)

one of the two “Sanford and Son” speakers!

too many clothes….

black denim jeans, chambray shirt and black sweater // matching socks with black smoking slippers all closet staples

Hello Friends and Merry Christmas Eve!
‘Twas the night before Christmas in the late 1980’s with my lil sister, Gloria, (RIP my dear angel); then into the 1990’s with my grandmother (RIP Mama) was a tradition that is now continuing with my sons in the 2000’s. On Christmas Eve we pile into the car, turn on the radio; listening to Christmas carols while driving to “Santa Claus Lane” to see the “Christmas House” . I have pictures of my sons all giddy and excited when they were younger but now just looking at me like I have two heads and wanting to get home. One day, God willing this tradition will continue with their children.
Once home, I start drinking Egg Nog or wine, and wrap presents while watching my all time favorite movie another Christmas Eve tradition ~ 24 hour marathon of “A Christmas Story” – “you’ll shoot your eye out!”

Hello Friends and Happy Christmas Eve Eve!
This afternoon #2 son and I went to Costco and Target and it was a crazy madhouse, I left tired with a headache and empty handed (too many crying babies). I have one more day to get a gift for #1 son and do my grocery shopping for the week so I will be up and out early tomorrow.
Last night I attended a Holiday slash “Obama Victory Party” hosted by a member of a OFA team who touts themselves as the ones who gave a Pennsylvania victory to the President. The hostess has a beautiful home that was fully decorated with the sights and sounds of the holidays. The dining room table was festively set with delicious foods and sweets and Poinsettias filled each room. It was a wonderful mix of guests and for a few hours we bonded, sharing stories, laughs and genuinely enjoying each other’s company. It was a lovely way to start off the holiday weekend and for that I say, thank you Delores!”

Heading out for the night

I hope you guys have a wonderful night – Smooches!

Do you need shoes for a holiday event or a pair of boots for a particular outfit and don’t want to break the bank? Rugged Wearhouse is a great place to find both shoes and boots for under $20.00, here are just a few that caught my eye:
