On Thursday night, The Delaware Financial Literacy Institute hosted a “Green Tie Friendraiser” at The Chase Center on The Riverfront. The “green themed” event began at 6:00 p.m. and as guests mixed and mingled waitstaff presented trays of succulent Hors D’Oeuvres which included a Crab-Avocado Salad Wrap; Grilled Tenderloin Crostini with Brie; Applewood Smoke Bacon Wrapped Shrimp; Caribbean Coconut Chicken with Mango Sauce; Mini Cheeseburger Sliders and Vegetarian Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
On each table there was a “What’s Your DFL-IQ” sheet that contained clues about the program, completed forms were then entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Gift Card with Travel Mug or a Basket of Wines. The mellow sounds of A-Z Music was heard as they played smooth Jazz throughout the evening. Mary Caraccioli, The Money Confidant, began the presentation with the history of DFLI, a not-for-profit organization that provides FREE financial literacy programs and the importance of the local business support. Emilio Cooper, Board President and a rep of Citizen’s Bank, a Corporate Sponsor also spoke and announced that DFLI had recently received the 2013 Excellence in Literacy Award – Non Profit. Ronni Cohen, Executive Director also spoke briefly and introduced her small, hardworking staff as well as a video that contained testimonies and accolades from several participants and instructors who were also present at the evening’s event.
The highlight of the evening were the eloquent remarks from Victoria Acosta, she and her sister Samantha are “smallpreneurs” whose family business, Precious Pillows, was started by Jennifer at the tender age of 10. She spoke of how DFLI planted the seed that allowed her to become successful and they have been chosen to represent their company at a Christian Technology Camp this summer. Victoria is an A+ student, involved in sports and church activities and is truly an inspiration to others in and above her age group.
“May your days be filled with success and your nights with Precious Pillows!”
Dinner was buffet style with Nacho stations as well as a Cheese/Fruit/Vegetable and Dip table. An open bar served soft drinks, a variety of wine, Twin Lakes Winterthur Wheat beer and a special Green Tie Cocktail – Rita’s Juicy Pear Water Ice & Vodka, which was also available as non-alcoholic.
As guests departed they were given a green dfli monogrammed coffee mug containing a bookmark and donation form. It was a wonderful evening and I will definitely contact my employer to request a donation be made to this worthy organization.

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday!
The weather so far this Spring has been two tone – warm one day, cold the next … sunny one day, raining the next…warm during the day and freezing at night. This afternoon it’s expected to be warm which is definitely a relief because the past few nights have been extremely chilly so much so that we had to turn the heat back on. I am not going to complain too much as there are states that are still dealing with snow and flooding which is far worse than anything we are experiencing.
In keeping with the two tone theme, today’s outfit is a combination of two trends:
Color Blocking and Black & White.
How is the weather in your neck of the woods?
Worthington Skirt and Top were both on clearance at JCPenney
Blending in the the tulips!
Black Bubble Necklace was hard to resist at $3.99 from Rainbow Shops
Purse (old) – Ross // Sandals – Avon

Hello Friends and Happy Tuesday
Do you remember Bill Withers’ 1977, hit song, Lovely Day? Not all of the words in this song exactly describes my day but it definitely was a LOVELY DAY! I took a day off from work so that my son could drop off his car and have it checked and then get to the orthodontist and dentist for treatments. It was such a lovely day, not only because of the weather but because I got a chance to spend it with my oldest son. Mothers with teenage and young adult sons know how difficult it can be to get them to spend time with you without complaint, so I took full advantage of it!
We started the day at Delaware Orthodontics in Middletown, this NASCAR-themed office is such a great place for kids of all ages, with video games and a flat screen TV to keep you occupied while in the waiting room.
After leaving the dentist office we stopped at Rugged Wearhouse where I found these pink, Gingham pumps on clearance for $5.00!
For lunch we went to Mickey D’s so I could try the new McWrap that I’ve heard so much about, it wasn’t bad for a fast food sandwich. I had coupons so it was only $1.00, and Tayair was able to get a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE BigMac sandwich.
It definitely was a lovely day!

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday
I trust you all had a nice weekend and were able to relax or do something fun and exciting or both! I wasn’t able to clean out my closets but I did have a busy fun filled weekend which started with the honor of being chosen, “Top Blogger of the Week” by Sverve. I was in a fantastic mood as I headed out leaving my men doing yard work which wasn’t what my sons had planned for their weekend. While in town I stopped at my favorite lunch spot, The Java House Cafe where they were hosting a book signing by Christian author Richelle Rodgers. Her book, Forever Growing A Journey of Trust is a motivational book on empowerment and growing your relationship with God. Richelle is a retired Army Vet who remains very active in supporting other female vets and is currently working on a Women Veterans Leadership Awards Symposium to be held in DC this fall.
Today, The Java House Cafe hosted another book signing by author, Jacqueline Charmane, her 5th book, They Raped Me Once Over and Over Again, is a true story based on her life. She spoke briefly about some of the heart breaking events in her life including the emotional and physical abuse by both her rapist and husband as well as the the kidnapping of her son. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak with each author after the events, purchased an autographed copy of the books, and took pictures which I will post later this week.
Today, was a bright and sunny day, a little cool but I had just purchased this Printed Cold Shoulder Dress from Avon and wanted to wear it to church.
It reminds me of a 70’s retro dress with the slit sleeves, do you remember Julie from The Mod Squad?
This vibrant floral print dress is only $24.99 for all sizes – S-3X
I wore navy blue heels – thrifted from GW Boutique (Goodwill)
Embellished Cross Collection Rings and Bangles – Avon
Earrings are silver hoops from jewelry box
Have a fantastical week – Smooches!

Give Me My Flowers While I’m Living
In this world today while we’re living
Some folks say the worst of us they can
But when we are dead and in our caskets
They always slip some lilies in our hand
Won’t you give me my flowers while I’m living
And let me enjoy them while I can
Pleae don’t wait till I’m ready to be buried
And then slip some lilies in my hand
In this world is where we need our flowers
A kind word to help us get along
If you can’t give me flowers while I’m living
Then please don’t throw them when I’m gone
Version:
Flatt and Scruggs
Sending these flowers from my house to yours – hope you’re not allergic!
Have a fantabulous day – Smooches!
