Fashion and Fun after Fifty
My co-worker knows that I love thrifting, she and I have even gone to Goodwill together during a lunch break. She knows there is no shame in my game when it comes to thrifting clothes especially for my sons. Last week she had a bag of clothes in her car that her son had outgrown, and asked if I wanted them. I could sense she was a little hesitant with the offer because she followed up with, “if you can’t use them, you can donate them to Goodwill”. Of course, I said, “yes”. Later in the day she put the bag into my car so I didn’t see the contents until I got home that evening. This bag contained some great stuff for my son who will be starting back to school next week!
The shopping bag was filled with shirts, pants, shorts and jeans, all in excellent condition and smelling freshly laundered. The name brand items included Old Navy, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, JC Penney’s and The Gap. My sons were thrilled with the haul and each went through the items designating which ones they wanted. The pants fit nicely around the waist, but hubby will need to alter the length because my co-worker’s son stands 6 ‘ 8″, taller than anyone in my house! This was my first FREE thrifted haul ever!!!
With only 3 weeks of school remaining my son is still telling me about events or special things happening at school. Trust me, I love the fact that my high school son still wants to share this part of his life with me, but why is it always last minute? Anywho, he tells me that he and his buddies have decided that the next 3 Wednesdays will be “Preppy Days” . I remember those days, we wore IZOD polo shirts with alligators on the chest, khaki pants, boat shoes, etc. My son has jeans, sweats and dress pants so yesterday I had to hit up the Goodwill in Exton, PA.
I got him 3 pairs of dockers and a pair of Banana Republic dress pants, with the price tag still attached ($98.00) for $3.75. I washed the dockers and threw the dress pants in the bag slated for the cleaners. Of course I also found myself a few things and hubby gave me his waist size just in case I came across more new slacks in his size….gotta love it, it gives me more of a reason to visit the Goodwill stores because it’s like a treasure hunt!
