Last Weekend in September

Hello friends, I hope that you had a great weekend. I cannot believe that tomorrow is the first day of October…where did September go? The weekend was uneventful but I did clean out my closet and put away the summer shoes. It’s unbelievable that there were this many shoes in my closet!

I also removed a lot of clothes and next week will be at the Flea Market selling them for $1.00 a piece, anything not sold will be donated to Goodwill. I didn’t get a chance to post Thursday or Friday’s outfits so here they are.

Saturday night Malik went with a friend to a Homecoming Dance and was excited to be riding in a Mercedes, which belonged to Mike’s mother – I wish I had a Benz! I didn’t ask, but wonder if they coordinated their attire with the car – lol!

Rugged Wearhouse Fall Fashions

As with most stores, the fall fashions were in stock well before Labor Day to capture the back to school crowd as well as the excitement of updating our fall wardrobes. Rugged Wearhouse is a clothing store that has really stepped up their game. I remember years ago this store carried mainly jeans and t-shirts for young adults and school age kids, and although this is still their primary target the selection of women’s wear has greatly improved. To further entice the more mature buyer they recently introduced a Rewards Program. When you sign up online you will receive a card which is presented at checkout. The reward is $5.00 off your next purchase if you spend at least $25.00.
On this trip I did spend more than $25.00, and here are the items that I purchased.

Price point for these tops starts at $7.99

Career Clothing

Price point for these dresses start at $12.99

Shoes are a hit or miss, depending on when they get a shipment, I saw several pairs of boots but wanted to wait because I couldn’t remember what I already had in my closet. I did however, get these purple ones because I knew I didn’t have any in this color and I liked the funky heels!

Shoe price point varies, these were $9.99

Accessories galore starting as low as $.99 cents.

I purchased 2 necklaces for $1.49, a pair of earrings and bracelets for $3.99 each.

Scarves and purses start at $4.99

Labor Day DIY's

20120903-203950.jpg

I hope everyone had a great holiday filled with fun, family and lots of food. Our holiday included a little shopping and a lot of grilling including today. Unfortunately, it rained most of the day and there were even reports of tornado-like winds downstate. Because of the weather we spent the day inside and I did a few chores and DIY projects.

Although unofficially this is considered the last day of summer, I am not ready to put away the summer clothing, including the white! We still have Indian Summer in October and during that time some of the days can be balmy.

One of my DIY projects was up-cycling a Maxi dress, cutting off the bodice above the elastic waist to make it a skirt. Now the maxi skirt will be worn with a light-weight pullover during Indian Summer or with boots and long, bulky sweater in the fall.

The black, faux suede loafers were purchased from Walmart for $14.97. I haven’t decided which embellishment to use, but at that price I may get a few more pairs to create different styles.

I hope you have a stress free and productive work week, try not to squeeze 5 days into 4 because it never works!!!

Back To School Shopping At Goodwill

Last week I saw a post on the GoodwillDE Facebook page that featured items from their Kirkwood Highway store, I’ve never been to that location and wanted to check it out.  So on Friday I rode with Tayair to Newark where he  attended a picnic sponsored by The Community Connectors and then I drove to Goodwill (saving gas) to shop.  Malik returns to school on the 28th and I found him some new shirts and polos for $5.00 and $6.00 each.

On this trip I was only looking for fall and winter items because Goodwill is now selling their summer items at 50% every Tuesday.

100% Wool Argyle Sweater – $5.00

Short Sleeve Polo Shirts – $3.75 each

Perfect for Breast Cancer Awareness Day at school

Sweater Vest which he likes to show off his muscular arms!! – $1.88

These 2 skirts made great additions to my fall wardrobe and I will wear them with tights and boots when the weather cools. – $6.00 each

This black mock neck sweater was a bit pricey at $8.00, but I liked the silver buckles across the front, I washed it in a lingerie bag on the hand wash cycle it came out perfectly.

These animal print pants was a last minute decision and I’m not sure if I will wear them, but if I do, it will be with a long sweater and boots -$3.75

.

Finally this sleeveless top is a transitional piece that I will wear now and then under a blazer in the fall and winter – $3.75

Dresses For Less

Now is the perfect time to take advantage of the end of the season sales and clearance racks.  Sleeveless dresses can easily transition into the fall by simply adding a jacket or blazer.  Throw on an over sized knit sweater, change from open toe sandals to tights and boots and  the dress can be worn well into the winter months.  Here are a few dresses that I found at Ross for $12.99, and Burlington Coat Factory for $16.99, some of which will definitely be worn during the cooler months.

OOTD – Timeless Tuesday

Gauchos have been referred to as “old lady capris”, but I consider them timeless wardrobe pieces.  I own several pairs and love them because they can be worn during any season – winter with boots; spring with open toe shoes; summer with sandals; fall with tights and booties.  Today I opted to wear with a double, bow back top, a tri-metal belt and metallic liz claiborne slides.  Poison ivy has spread and I am trying hard to keep it away from my face, right now it just the arms and 1 leg..
