On Friday, after Tayair and I left the cemetery we stopped at Spencer’s Bazaar Flea Market and then Rodney Village Shopping Center. There will be a separate post for Spencer’s Bazaar that features unique items made and sold by a high school friend. Our next stop was to the Goodwill store where Gloria once worked before she passed. I walked around for almost 30 minutes and could not find anything, eventually I found a belt for $1.00. Within the shopping center which is really a strip mall there was Beauty Max, a large beauty supply store. Hubby needed new hair clippers and I was looking for a “weekend wig”. After finding a cute FreeTress unit on clearance for $19.99, a lace front, the hair clippers and some nail polish we decided to head home.
As we were leaving I noticed a store called Citi Trends, I had never heard of it but decided to stop in and check it out. The clothing was along the lines of urban gear for the younger crowd, but I found a cute pencil skirt, a cuff bracelet and a spike ring. (posted on Instagram @ablake48). Tayair wasn’t interested in anything but I knew Malik would be, so on Saturday I let him drive us back down to check it out. While he shopped I took time to look around and ended up getting these shoes and dresses. Malik wore the Canvas Lace Ups and watch to school which is probably why he was so anxious on going today.

Happy Thursday my friends, I hope you are having a stress-free productive day. This is the last day of skirt week because tomorrow I will be traveling and won’t be in the office. I still have a lot more to wear but I did find several that will be sold at next month’s Flea Market. This weekend I may tackle the shoes but if not, it will definitely be done before the end of the month.
This skirt still had the price tag on it, clearance for $7.98, from Burlington Coat Factory and I almost didn’t wear it. It’s ruffled on the sides and I thought it might accentuate my thighs but the color matched the shoes (purchased here) so I cut the tag and wore it. The multi color top is a closet staple as is the jewelry (because I can’t remember where purchased).
I picked up this cloth fan at Dollar Tree to keep in my purse for those “personal summer” moments!
Have a blessed day ~Smooches!

Happy Hump Day Wednesday….let the countdown begin. Why do I wish my life away by rushing the week to get to the weekend? I need to be more conscience of that and simply enjoy each day because they are not promised. Today’s outfit is once again not thrifted even though it didn’t start out that way. The first skirt I put on was from Goodwill but it was a little too tight….gotta watch those carbs!! I love the color burgundy for the fall and have read that it’s the color for the season, that and “oxblood”. Who in the world cut an ox and then decided to use the color of the blood to describe clothing – where in the world do you find an ox anyway?
The multi-color skirt was purchased last month from Boscov’s (remember this sale) and I paired it with the burgundy top from Ross or Marshalls. Picking up the mustard color in the skirt with the xhilaration sandals via Target. Necklace and earring set from Jewelrymax.net as well as rhinstone, butterfly ring. The tri-color metal bracelet is from my jewelry box (which means I can’t remember where it was purchased).
Have a wonderful day and make the most of it, I’ll try to do the same.
Linking up today for What I Wore Weds with http://transatlanticblonde.blogspot.com/ , check out her blog, she has the cutest little blonde headed boy!

Monday…Monday…Monday…and what a beautiful day it is – the Lord has truly blessed us with a gorgeous pre-Autumn day. I am happy to be able to turn off the AC and open up the windows, I will however miss the heat but not the high electric bills! I had planned on clearing out my closet over the weekend but decided to work outside instead. In addition to the shoes scattered on my closet floor I have a lot of skirts hanging. It’s time to start wearing them more frequently so that I can determine what to keep and what to donate. This week the theme “a skirt a day”, starts with an Army green denim which is perfect for today’s brisk weather.

The Kardashian Kollection has a new line called Metaphor. It is geared towards women who love affordable designer fashion (raising hand). Fashion items that can go from a day at the office to a night on the town. Jackets for misses and petites are advertised for $17.99, I will definitely be making a trip to Sears to check it out.

I was in Wilmington on Thursday for a doc appointment and afterwards I drove over to The Salvation Army which is located by the train station. As a child I remember my grandmother taking us shopping at a Salvation Army on North Avenue in New Rochelle and it was never fun or exciting. However, when I walked into this Salvation Army my heart started palpatating and my mind filled with excitement! It had been over 16 years since the last time I was here and things had really changed, the lighting was bright, the merchandise was neat and the space was huge. It was here back in the early ’90’s that we bought our first dining room set, a Butler’s Pantry and a crib. The pieces were nice but I had to strip and re-stain the table, re-upholster the chair pads and disinfect the crib. Although we no longer have the dining room set or crib I did keep the Butler’s Pantry and it is currently in our living room storing the “good China” and wedding photo albums.
According to the history of The Salvation Army it was founded based on the gospel of Jesus Christ helping the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute and what William Booth started in 1865, is just as relevant today. Donating and shopping at The Salvation Army helps so many people and great causes that it makes you feel good about spending money in their stores.
Upon entering this location what struck me was the department store atmosphere, the bright lighting, the open landscape, overly organized and color coordinated merchandise. I spent the first few minutes just walking around checking out the signage, tags and watching and listening to the associates interact with customers. The associates were busy on the floor yet, when they passed, they acknowledged you with a smile and a few kind words, this really made me feel welcomed, wanting to linger longer and spend more. I was so impressed that I sought out an employee who turned out to be the store manager, Don Walker. I expressed my delight explaining that I was a Blogger and would be writing about my positive experience. He thanked me, provided an update on the changes at the Salvation Army and then took the time to explain and write down the sales policies.

I love the fact that they are closed on Sundays, and sometimes I wish Delaware would return to the days of the “Blue Laws”. Stores were closed and people went to church, rested and/or spent time with family and friends. I think we all need a day to shut down and just take time to relax especially during these crazy times of discord. Don also told me that they get new furniture from a local store and it’s sold at extremely reduced prices, so if you are in the market for a leather Lazy Boy Chair, come here first. I took a lot of pictures so you can see just how organized, and spacious this location is and I vowed to return to do more shopping and less documenting.
Please note, because I took so many pics inside the store, I need to write another post detailing just my purchases. Look closely at the pictures to see how neat and clean the floors are, the hangers are all set straight, no dust on the furniture and the mirrors sparkle…I need this at my house!

Yesterday’s staycation day was planned for dental, orthodontic and doctor appointments but I did manage to get in a little thrifting. I had wanted to go to the Christiana Mall for the Fashion Night Out (FNO) events but it didn’t start until 6:00. Wanting to be home before six I instead stopped at the Salvation Army. Not having been to the Salvation Army since 1996, I noticed a drastic change for the better and will post pics, my thoughts and of course my finds this weekend.

Hello friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday! You know the days when you put on your clothes and something just doesn’t fit right, or in my case fits too tightly, well that was how my morning started. As you know on Sunday nights I prepare my outfits for the week but today it was a “pull from the closet” morning. I put on and then changed 3 skirts, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of capris and 2 tops because none of them fit right…all too tight!! Not enough “labor” over the holiday, too many Michelobs and Seagrams so now it’s back to the elliptical with a vengeance and summer indulgences are a distant memory!!
After all those changes this is what I ended up wearing, an outfit that is color blocked with my Sorority colors Royal Blue and Gold, (ΣΓΡ ~ Sigma Gamma Rho), and hubby’s Fraternity colors Purple and Gold, (ΩΨΦ ~ Omega Psi Phi).
Top – Goodwill// Skirt – Old Navy// Belt – Rainbow Shops// Wedges – Marshalls
Bangles (separated ) by a large bracelet – Rainbow Shops// White Stone Ring – Avon // Earrings – Samsbeauty.com
I think I hid those extra pounds nicely!!
