Happy Birthday
“He made his reggae music to uplift us, inform, entertain, inspire, and make change in the world. He’s a musician, a poet and songwriter, a philosopher, a soldier, an activist and a leader.” – Cedella Marley
Delaware Roots
His mother, Cedella Booker, relocated from Jamaica to his first American home in Wilmington, Delaware in 1966. That same year Bob Marley married Rita Anderson and joined his mother in Delaware for a few months, where he worked as a DuPont lab assistant and on an assembly line at a Chrysler plant under the alias Donald Marley. Every summer we have a PeoplesFestival at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington celebrating his life with live music, food, vendors and fun.
One of my favorite Bob Marley hits was “one love” which is now a theme song for vacation travel to Jamaica.
What is yours?

Tonight was the premier of “Night at the W” and I attended the festivities at Walgreens store #11055 in Middletown. Without fanfare, paparazzi or flashing bulbs I made a grand entrance through the automatic doors and was greeted by the ever smiling and radiant sales associate Anna Marie (silly me).
Tim Gunn’s “The Red Carpet Guide to Glamour” featured Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss, Clump Crusher Mascara and Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm; Pantene Pro-V AgeDefy Hair Treatment; Crest 3D White 2 Hour Express Whitestrips and Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo. The arrangements showcased each product along with money saving coupons.
I
I purchased a bottle of Covergirl Outlast Nail Gloss and look forward to tomorrow night’s mani/pedi. I hope you to had an opportunity to attend this evening’s exciting event at your local Walgreens, but if not, check it out before your next “Red Carpet Event” – Smooches!

“The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.”
For this I wish to acknowledge and say THANK YOU to Deb Sullivan, a local Real Estate Agent for RE/Max 1st Choice, who for the last 13 years has set up mobile Drop Off Sites for Toys for Tots in the Middletown, Odessa and Townsend communities. Every year Deb or one of her agents uses their personal vehicles to serve as a drop off site in over 20 communities. The signs are posted in advance with the scheduled date and time and it has become a tradition that I and many others look forward to each year. Once I missed our scheduled date but was able to drive to another community the next day with the donation. These mobile drop off sites are an easy and convenient way to put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning.
Although there has been a decrease in the number of people donating those who do are giving more which is such a blessing. Toys and gifts for kids ages 3-8, are in high demand because that is the age group which mostly still believe in Santa and don’t quite understand hardships. My sons are older and I no longer have to buy toys for them so it’s fun to shop and donate in their honor.

I found this great article on a large donation from Mrs. Obama and members of the White House staff – http://praisecleveland.com/1413359/first-lady-michelle-obama-drops-off-900-gifts-for-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/?omcamp=es-wppz-nl

Fri-Yay~Fri-Yay~Fri-Yay
The best day of the work week!
One of my Friday night rituals is to stop at Pockets Discount Liquors in New Castle for a bottle of Barefoot Sweet Red wine. This evening was no exception, however, tonight they were hosting a taste testing. Shannon Heinz, proprietor of Schnizzie Vodka was providing samples of her newly released Sparkling Vodka Cocktail. Schnizzie is an all natural, sparkling cocktail made with premium vodka infused with real strawberries, distilled from sugar cane and sweetened with light agave nectar. It is gluten free and made in New York, my sample was poured over ice but can be consumed chilled without ice.
Schnizzie is the first Sparkling Vodka Cocktail on the market but the quality can be compared to Ciroc or Van Gogh Vodka. Shannon has had several taste testings throughout the state and more information can be found on her Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/schnizzie. Packaged in a cellophane bag makes it a perfect holiday gift or in my case a great drink while decorating the house.
Goodnight and remember to always drink responsibly.

The 2012 holiday shopping weekend began with “Gray Thursday” next it was “Black Friday” on to “Small Business Saturday” and finally there was what I called, “Soulful Shopping Sunday”. The Home Based Business Chamber of Commerce (DelMarVa Chapter) held its 2nd Annual Holiday Extravaganza at the Executive Banquet Center in Newark, DE. Outside the Banquet Center the morning air was chilly with a slight hint of mid-day snow but inside the sun streamed through glass doors creating a silhouetted pathway into a large conference room. Inside that room were brightly covered tables of 43 vendors who were busily adding the final touches to their “stores”. Delaware and it’s neighboring sister states have an abundance of Home Based Business entrepreneurs and this was a perfect venue for showcasing and networking.
The event began with an Opening Ceremony consisting of award presentations and recognition of members including the first and only member of the Junior Home Based Business Chamber of Commerce. Justine D’Artist, a 12 year old young lady who creates Duct Tape accessories, roses, wallets and bags. Each vendor was then handed the microphone to give a brief introduction of themselves and their businesses. By noon people began to trickle in and were presented with a Gift Bag and a “Visit The Vendor” form which if returned and signed by all the vendors would become a raffle ticket, eligible for a cash prize. Several of the vendors provided door prizes which were awarded throughout the day. The $5 admission fee included free Hors D’oeuvres, coloring and face painting for the kids, a live performance by Best Kept Soul, which is a local band who had people out on the dance floor. There was also performances by Praise Dancers and the Holy Soldiers and His Embrace.
As I walked around stopping to talk to several vendors, I noted that regardless of their product or service they all had one thing in common – true passion and sheer determination. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are America’s life blood which keeps the economy strong and resilient and for that they should be commended.
Jaimie and Ira, Prez and VP of the HBB Chamber of Commerce are doing an excellent job in exposing and expanding the DelMarVa Chapter. They have made it the fastest growing chapter and recently received the “Chamber of the Year” Award. Currently there are 7 National Chapters and DelMarVa includes Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and DC. As a non-profit their funding is received from sponsorship’s, events such as this and membership dues. If you are a Home Based Business owner and are interested in becoming a member, please contact Jaimie Shanklin at 302-784-5311.
This was by far the best stress-free shopping event of the weekend – shopping, eating, drinking and dancing – you can’t beat that with a stick!

Hello friends and Happy Tuesday before Thanksgiving
Yesterday, after work I met with two representatives from The Money School of Delaware. They had read my post, “From Purses to Portfolios” and were so impressed that they offered me an opportunity to create their blog as well as host various training webinars. Attending events and writing about women’s issues mixed with the fashion and savings was exactly where I wanted to take this blog. Now that this has come to fruition so quickly I want to thank God for I am truly blessed and look forward to working with some great people at The Money School.
I will keep you posted as to when it goes live because it will be separate from my dedivahdeals blog.

Linking up with Frugal Living and More – hop on over to find some great deals & savings
