PRODUCT REVIEW-The Posh’mina Scarf

Last week while blog hopping I entered a giveaway contest to win a scarf from The Posh’mina.  One of the Rafflecopter’s entry requirements was to leave a comment on the company’s Facebook page.  After viewing the online shop I chose the Hi’biscus style and commented that I would love to feature it on my blog. Within a matter of hours I received a reply from them with an offer to send one – wow the power of Facebook.  (now I need to find a giveaway that offers to pay my bills-lol)

Anywho, a lovely lady by the name of Debbie, also touted as being “Fashionably Fifty” from The Posh’mina contacted me,  stated that she liked my blog and would love to send a scarf for me to post. I agreed and said that I would wear it to church taking pictures from there, however, upon receipt I was like a kid at Christmas and couldn’t wait to wear it!

The company’s promo states that they had evolved big scarves to become more fashionable and versatile than ever.  I definitely have to agree because of it’s design; the slotted arm holes is by far the best feature.  How many times has your pashmina scarf fallen off your arms and onto a dirty floor in a public place?  The innovative design of the slotted arm holes prevents this from occurring as well as the constant adjusting and slip sliding from the shoulders.

I love the print of this scarf, the style is Hi’Biscus and there are currently 15 styles available online.  Made in India, designed in the United States and are 100% Viscose.  Dry cleaning is recommended but I will hand wash in a tub of cool water and Woolite when it needs to be freshened then lightly steamed pressed with an iron.

Phone Banking for President Obama

For months leading up to the election I had received emails requesting monetary donations, I have donated small amounts on several occasions.  I’ve been asked to post to Facebook and Tweet OFA information; I have also complied.  I’ve received emails containing songs and videos asking to pass them on to my contacts which I have also done.  I had signed up and received emails requesting to donate my time volunteering at a phone bank or knocking on doors – which I had never done…at least not until yesterday.

I like many other supporters like to talk the talk but are hesitant when it comes to walking the walk.  That all changed yesterday when I volunteered to Phone Bank for The President at the Democratic Headquarters in New Castle.  I will admit that it wasn’t an email, tweet or post that convinced me; it was having a conversation and later meeting a wonderful lady, an Obama volunteer who offered her extra yard sign.  When she called, I once again said I didn’t have a whole lot of time to volunteer because I lived in Delaware and worked in Pennsylvania and on weekends I had to blah…blah…blah…excuse…excuse…excuse.  However, before I ended the conversation I was asked her if she knew where I could purchase an Obama 2012 Yard Sign.  She told me that she had an extra and since she lived close I decided to stop by and purchase, but she gave it to me – FREE of charge.

That one simple act of kindness made me change my mind so yesterday I volunteered a few hours and made 123 calls to registered voters in Pennsylvania.

I along with 4 others sat in a room armed with a cell phone provided by the Committee, a Voter Contact Script, and List Sheets with the names and numbers of registered voters.  I called and spoke to supporters or left messages thanking them for their previous support.  To those that answered the phone, I asked if they had any questions, if they needed a ride to the poll and the approximate time that they would be voting.

Although we were given a written script to read and requested to keep our conversations short and polite there was the possibility of reaching someone who wanted to challenge.  Fortunately I witnessed such a conversation when a fellow volunteer reached an uninformed and undecided voter.  With each negative and incorrect statement she countered with the correct information in a polite, non-combative way.  The conversation lasted about 10 minutes most of which I overheard and was mesmerized by his misinformation about the President and his opponent.  However, her ability to counter with the correct information as well as providing him with the website to read was awesome.  She was pretty much drained after that conversation but was rewarded when the next several callers she reached were overly enthusiastic, “Fired Up and Ready to Go”

The Democratic Headquarters housed volunteers for all the State’s democrats running for office or reelection.  They provided us with free pizza, water, soft drinks, cookies, crackers and candy but I was filled with was a sense of accomplishment as well as meeting some great people with the same goal – to get President Barack Hussein Obama reelected – 4 more 4 44!!

OOTD & Wordless Wednesday-NOT!

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday.  This morning I had an hour long conversation with a cousin that I met only once, 12 years ago at my father’s funeral.  We talked and laughed as if we had spoken just last week.  Our conversation was enjoyable and we both learned a little more about each other and our families.  These days it seems as though personal letter writing or conversing on a LAN line has been replaced with texting, instant messaging, tweeting or facebooking.  We need to connect on a more personal level with family and friends especially as time marches on and our lives shorten.  Today I vow to call her more often as well as having live conversations with other family members and friends.

Dress – Burlington Coat Factory// Sweater – Ross// Shoes – The Shoe Department

Vlogger of The Week

Happy Saturday, I hope you are having a great day and are looking forward to the Labor Day holiday. I was on staycation yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to post Vlogger of The Week, but today’s video is right on time if you are hosting a holiday party.

Cooking with Carolyn is one of my favorite vlogs and this particular video features preparations and tips for throwing a large family party /barbecue. Carolyn is the creator of  Grand Diamond Seasonings (FB page) and is a cook extraordinaire who in my opinion should have her own television show on the Food Network.

Check out the videos and I hope it inspires you to try some of her fantastic recipes.  Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!!!

Back To School Shopping At Goodwill

Last week I saw a post on the GoodwillDE Facebook page that featured items from their Kirkwood Highway store, I’ve never been to that location and wanted to check it out.  So on Friday I rode with Tayair to Newark where he  attended a picnic sponsored by The Community Connectors and then I drove to Goodwill (saving gas) to shop.  Malik returns to school on the 28th and I found him some new shirts and polos for $5.00 and $6.00 each.

On this trip I was only looking for fall and winter items because Goodwill is now selling their summer items at 50% every Tuesday.

These 2 skirts made great additions to my fall wardrobe and I will wear them with tights and boots when the weather cools. – $6.00 each

This black mock neck sweater was a bit pricey at $8.00, but I liked the silver buckles across the front, I washed it in a lingerie bag on the hand wash cycle it came out perfectly.

These animal print pants was a last minute decision and I’m not sure if I will wear them, but if I do, it will be with a long sweater and boots -$3.75

Finally this sleeveless top is a transitional piece that I will wear now and then under a blazer in the fall and winter – $3.75

OOTD – Heading to the Dentist

Yesterday I had a dental appointment and because I live in Delaware, it didn’t make since to drive to work in Pennsylvania afterwards so I took a vacation day.  The weather was extremely nice, not too hot and humid so instead of a maxi dress, I wore shorts, and a tank top with flip flops.  I joined the BLMGirls Facebook group and while reading the blogs I found recommendations for various photo editing websites, I used Pixl to edit and create this collage.
