OOTD – Throwback Thursday

Good Thursday, I hope your day is positive and productive.  Today is less stressful now that I am back in my own cubicle after only an hour and half commute which always starts with a prayer for safe travels.

The outfit of the day is a 70’s throwback, wide leg pants and wedge sandals which I wore in Junior High School.  The pants were purchased in May (here) and the sandals in June (here), but the patterns compliment each other – I love when that happens!  The mix of jewelry includes wood, glass, plastic, stone and metal another throwback to the fashions of the 60’s and 70’s.  Purse was purchased from TJ Maxx and is just large enough to carry all my daily essentials without being too bulky.  I wish my figure was a throwback to the 70’s, then perhaps the belt purchased from Goodwill would fit a little less snug!

OOTD – Travel to Bethlehem, PA

Today I had to travel to Bethlehem for a job assignment and it afforded me the opportunity to dress down for the day.  I didn’t wear these shoes but did like how they matched the shirt, both of which were purchased from Ross at different times.   The commute to Bethlehem was 218 miles, in the car for 4-hours, traffic backed up on the way north definitely put a HUMP in my day.  However, my assignment was completed by noon and I was home before 3:00.

Before heading home, I walked the Office Park and the surroundings provided me with calm and peaceful thoughts that made the commute a little less stressful.

Free Thrifted Haul

My co-worker knows that I love thrifting, she and I have even gone to Goodwill together during a lunch break.  She knows there is no shame in my game when it comes to thrifting clothes especially for my sons.  Last week she had a bag of clothes in her car that her son had outgrown, and asked if I wanted them.  I could sense she was a little hesitant with the offer because she followed up with,  “if you can’t use them, you can donate them to Goodwill”.   Of course, I said, “yes”.  Later in the day she put the bag into my car so I didn’t see the contents until I got home that evening.  This bag contained some great stuff for my son who will be starting back to school next week!

The shopping bag was filled with shirts, pants, shorts and jeans, all in excellent condition and smelling freshly laundered.  The name brand items included Old Navy, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, JC Penney’s and The Gap.  My sons were thrilled with the haul and each went through the items designating which ones they wanted.  The pants fit nicely around the waist, but hubby will need to alter the length because my co-worker’s son stands 6 ‘ 8″, taller than anyone in my house!   This was my first FREE thrifted haul ever!!!

OOTD – Happy Monday

Happy Monday, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable weekend. Hubby and I went to dinner at the Chesapeake Inn in Maryland to celebrate our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. The meal was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant so we had a  nice evening as an old married couple sans our sons.

Today’s outfit is autumn-like in it’s coloring yet summer-like in it’s fabric and comfortable enough for today’s 87 degree weather.  The Octavia Thai Silk open-toe-pumps were on clearance for $12.97, and on the RocketDog website, they are listed for $59.95!

Dress Shoes on the Cheap

Tomorrow hubby and I will be celebrating our 22nd Wedding Anniversary at our favorite restaurant in Newark. I will be wearing the blue dress that I purchased from Boscov’s and for the life of me I couldn’t remember if I had shoes to wear with it. Driving home I contemplated stopping at the mall but I didn’t want to spend a lot on a pair of shoes that most likely will be worn only a few times.
I drive by a Goodwill so I decided to stop and found 2 pairs of shoes for $4.00 each! In the past I would never have purchased second hand shoes but thanks to the recession that is no longer unthinkable.

Most times the shoes are gently worn or haven’t been worn at all and I make sure to thoroughly disinfectant them prior to wearing. I donate shoes to Goodwill all the time and there are times when women have tried on shoes in the department store prior to my purchasing them so it’s no big deal.

I spray and wipe out the shoes and straps while wearing plastic or rubber gloves, and for non-fabric shoes I use bleach and water.

OOTD – Purple Prints

Happy Thursday, and thank goodness that we on  the horizon to the weekend!  I’ve been watching some of the results of the 2012 Olympic games and losing sleep because of it so Saturday I will definitely be sleeping in.  For today’s outfit I mixed  a  purple print because these floral sandals sat in my closet for over a year waiting for a solid match.

OOTD – Hubby’s 2nd Chance

Hubby was a bit more awake this morning so I gave him a second chance and with a little editing using Pixlr and PicMonkey today’s pics are better. The dog days of summer are winding down but the heat remains so today’s outfit is cool and comfortable for “Hump Day Wednesday” I had to alter the neckline of this thrifted dress with a few stitches because it was cut very low, however, it’s still a very feminine look. The rhinestone embellished sandals were purchased two years ago and are extremely comfortable and goes well with this dress. I am allowing my nails to breathe for the rest of the week so I am sans polish on my fingers and toes.

OOTD – New Photographer of The Week

I am giving my son a reprieve this week and have enlisted hubby to take my pics – unfortunately he is not as good but I’d never say that to him.  Instead I will set up the tripod that I purchased on Saturday and learn to use the  timer on my camera!!!

Back To School Shopping At Goodwill

Last week I saw a post on the GoodwillDE Facebook page that featured items from their Kirkwood Highway store, I’ve never been to that location and wanted to check it out.  So on Friday I rode with Tayair to Newark where he  attended a picnic sponsored by The Community Connectors and then I drove to Goodwill (saving gas) to shop.  Malik returns to school on the 28th and I found him some new shirts and polos for $5.00 and $6.00 each.

On this trip I was only looking for fall and winter items because Goodwill is now selling their summer items at 50% every Tuesday.

Sweater Vest which he likes to show off his muscular arms!! – $1.88

These 2 skirts made great additions to my fall wardrobe and I will wear them with tights and boots when the weather cools. – $6.00 each

This black mock neck sweater was a bit pricey at $8.00, but I liked the silver buckles across the front, I washed it in a lingerie bag on the hand wash cycle it came out perfectly.

These animal print pants was a last minute decision and I’m not sure if I will wear them, but if I do, it will be with a long sweater and boots -$3.75

.

Finally this sleeveless top is a transitional piece that I will wear now and then under a blazer in the fall and winter – $3.75
