Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!
It is now officially Spring so this is going to be the last of the heavy Crock Pot meals. It’s time to start eating lighter as we begin to shed the layers of clothing.
This Friday Foodie Feature was made before St. Patrick’s Day which is why I didn’t cook Corned Beef and Cabbage on Monday – too much red meat is not good for you.
Ingredients:
- Beef Brisket
- Medium Onion – sliced
- Liquid Smoke 1/2 tsp
- South African Smoke Seasoning 1/4 tsp
- BBQ Sauce
- Red Potatoes – 4-5 small diced
- 1/4 cup water
Place brisket in resealable bag rubbed with South African Smoke seasoning, refrigerate overnight or at least 3 hours.
Spray Crock Pot with cooking spray for easier cleanup. Pour in Liquid Smoke and water, then add the brisket.
Pour in entire bottle of BarBecue sauce, add onions and potatoes, cover then cook on low 6-8 hours depending on Crock Pot style.
I sauteed some cabbage in Olive Oil sprinkled with pepper to complete this end of the winter meal.
This delicious dinner for 4 was plenty with leftovers for the next day. The tender beef brisket was shredded and used to make Tex Mex Burritos.
Next week’s feature will be a lighter fare and is also perfect for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Don’t forget to come back at 6:00 p.m. for the Weekend Wind-Down Party, I am sure there will be plenty of Spring recipes being shared.

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!
Today is “Black Friday”, and in the United States it’s the day after Thanksgiving, noted as the first day of Christmas shopping. Crowds of consumers are drawn to special offers by retailers and some people even lose their minds!
Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point of view this year some retailers began their Black Friday sales Thursday night!
Die hard Black Friday shoppers are those who after Thanksgiving dinner will leave the warmth of their homes and drive to stores to camp out overnight for the latest, lowest priced gadget.
Are you a Black Friday Shopper? If so, more power to ya just don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, carry snacks and a bottle of water in a small purse and check out this 2013 Black Friday Shopping Guide.
Have Fun and Be Safe!
I don’t like shopping in the holiday madness and prefer to stay local which is why I like places like the Dutch Country Farmers Market in Middletown. My sons are older so there’s no need to wait until Christmas to buy them gifts, those days of hunting for Tickle Me Elmo, Furby or Star Wars memorabilia is long behind me. I can now enjoy leisurely shopping and watch others stress – lol!
Here’s a look inside our local Farmers’s Market
Tomorrow is Shop Small Business Saturday so come back to see which Middletown Shops I’ve featured.

I found a few new items at Dollar Tree this morning:
- Whole Flaxseed which I love sprinkled on my salads and in my smoothies
- Hazelnut Spread, my son likes on Graham crackers
- White Tea with Pomegrante
- Herr’s Kettle Chips
- Sally Hansen French Manicure Set – it originally rang up $9.50, cashier stated that they sometime receive cosmetics that should have been sent to other discount stores, i.e. Big Lot and sold at a higher price
Great for pedicures
