Are you a Winer – do you like trying new Wines – if so, I want your Wine Winning recipes!
I am not a wine connoisseur nor do I don’t spend a lot for a bottle of wine. I am a sucker for a deal and love fun colorful bottles, and this is where I shop on FriYays after work.

On Thursday night, The Delaware Financial Literacy Institute hosted a “Green Tie Friendraiser” at The Chase Center on The Riverfront. The “green themed” event began at 6:00 p.m. and as guests mixed and mingled waitstaff presented trays of succulent Hors D’Oeuvres which included a Crab-Avocado Salad Wrap; Grilled Tenderloin Crostini with Brie; Applewood Smoke Bacon Wrapped Shrimp; Caribbean Coconut Chicken with Mango Sauce; Mini Cheeseburger Sliders and Vegetarian Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
On each table there was a “What’s Your DFL-IQ” sheet that contained clues about the program, completed forms were then entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Gift Card with Travel Mug or a Basket of Wines. The mellow sounds of A-Z Music was heard as they played smooth Jazz throughout the evening. Mary Caraccioli, The Money Confidant, began the presentation with the history of DFLI, a not-for-profit organization that provides FREE financial literacy programs and the importance of the local business support. Emilio Cooper, Board President and a rep of Citizen’s Bank, a Corporate Sponsor also spoke and announced that DFLI had recently received the 2013 Excellence in Literacy Award – Non Profit. Ronni Cohen, Executive Director also spoke briefly and introduced her small, hardworking staff as well as a video that contained testimonies and accolades from several participants and instructors who were also present at the evening’s event.
The highlight of the evening were the eloquent remarks from Victoria Acosta, she and her sister Samantha are “smallpreneurs” whose family business, Precious Pillows, was started by Jennifer at the tender age of 10. She spoke of how DFLI planted the seed that allowed her to become successful and they have been chosen to represent their company at a Christian Technology Camp this summer. Victoria is an A+ student, involved in sports and church activities and is truly an inspiration to others in and above her age group.
“May your days be filled with success and your nights with Precious Pillows!”
Dinner was buffet style with Nacho stations as well as a Cheese/Fruit/Vegetable and Dip table. An open bar served soft drinks, a variety of wine, Twin Lakes Winterthur Wheat beer and a special Green Tie Cocktail – Rita’s Juicy Pear Water Ice & Vodka, which was also available as non-alcoholic.
As guests departed they were given a green dfli monogrammed coffee mug containing a bookmark and donation form. It was a wonderful evening and I will definitely contact my employer to request a donation be made to this worthy organization.

TVOne just ended it’s first season of their new sitcom, Belle’s starring veteran actors Ella Joyce, Keith David and Miguel Nunez as well as Elise Neil and newly minted reality actress and home girl (money earning Mt. Vernon) Tami Roman. The show is narrated by 12 year old Nadka Alaya as Pam in a role similar to Aaron Meeks as Ahmad in Soul Food. However, unlike Soul Food, this is light comedy, not forced comedy like Roc or The Hughley’s or extreme unreality like Basketball Wives, light comedy similar to Sparks.
As a “fifty something” wife and mother, I enjoyed this show for several reasons: the time, 10 pm on Friday…end of the work week…after dinner…after hubby and sons have gone to their rooms…after weekly home pedicure…and after the 4th glass of Red Wine has kicked in. Light comedy with an excellent cast of characters that appear to work well together, great guest appearances like Wendy Williams and Gary Dourdan, a show that I hope remains on the air for a long time.
Thank you, TVOne for bringing family programming that I truly enjoy!

Hello Friends, I hope your Friday night is winding down and you are fine as wine…cheers…clink!
I was cleaning out my DIY supply drawer and found a roll of Zebra Print duct tape that was purchased from Dollar General and decided to do a quick project.
I covered a bracelet to wear with my Mossimo flats from Target.
What do you think, easy breezy right?
Time for another glass of wine!
Have a good night – Smooches!

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay Fri-Yay Fri-Yay
After a long restless night due to a toothache I awoke to this gift from God!
This is the calm before the storm as Winter is definitely in full force, with snow scheduled to begin falling around 3 p.m. The roads have been brined to cut down on commuter accidents because the temps are also going to drop even lower into the single digits.
As you can see, I am fully prepared and hopefully will leave early enough to stop and pick up a bottle of wine (for me) and Chinese take-out for my men. My plans are to be indoors snug-as-a-bug-in-the-rug until at least Sunday.
These Paisley Skinny Jeans and Infinity Scarf were both on clearance at Target and men’s sweater was thrifted from GW Boutique (Goodwill). The boots have been in my closet for several years and most likely were purchased from Payless.
Believe it or not, this faux fur vest once was a coat that I DIY’d because it didn’t fit properly. I shorten the length using the excess for a scarf, removed the sleeves and made a pair of leg warmers.

Do you refashion clothing, if so, what have you done and how did it work out?

On Saturday night I rode with my girlfriend downstate to Lewes, DE, she is an Independent Consultant for Passion Parties and had been booked for a 7:00 show. I had previously attended a party she hosted but this was my first time attending as a non-guest, so I sat in the back and observed. Most of the ladies all in their early 20’s had never attended a Passion Party and it was hilarious watching their reactions to some of the products. The hostess had chosen a Hawaiian Theme for the show and had decorated with leis, beach towels, sea shells and served fresh fruits as well as a variety of libations including Jello Shots. I am not familiar with them so I didn’t know what they contained, however, I do know it was alcohol. As the night wore on and thanks to the shots and other beverages their laughter increased and intensified. The ladies were grad students newly married or in long term relationships and all lived in the development so they would walk home safely (Drink Responsibly).
Shawn did an excellent job in keeping them focused throughout her presentation which became a bit more challenging after several Jello Shot toasts. Overall they had a great “Girls Night In” and the hostess thanked Shawn for what turned out to be a successful party!

Valentine’s Day is a month away and if you are interested in a Passion Party or would like to order from the catalog, please contact Shawn @ http://passionbyshawn.yourpassionconsultant.com/.

Monday…Monday…Monday…coming off a high carb, no exercise weekend and it shows! Saturday afternoon we went to a friend’s Bar-B-Que and the food was awesome! They had jerk chicken, fried chicken, barbecue chicken, mac and cheese, peas and rice, green beans, corn, salmon cakes, pasta salad, green salad, ribs, beer, wine, coolers and other adult beverages. I had a few pieces of jerk chicken, peas and rice and 2 salmon cakes because our hosts are from Trinidad so you know it was authentic finger-lickin, slam yo mama good! I thought about taking pictures but decided to only feature the 3 bottles of hot sauce, one of which was the “3 5 7 Mad Dog” and I definitely needed a shot of milk after tasting this one!
