Every year around this time which is normally Mother’s Day weekend I head outside to prepare the pool for the season. Unfortunately, after uncovering it at the end of April we were then hit with weeks of cold and excessive rain so the pool and the deck became littered with dirt and leaves.
However, not wanting to wait any longer in the month for the weather to warm up I went outside on Saturday to get things cleaned up – and as you can see, got very dirty in the process!
The sun finally popped out towards the end of the day, but I still didn’t get a chance to get the pool clean. The water flow to the filter wasn’t working properly so now I have to wait for Pool Care Specialist to send a tech to repair it which was disappointing.
Thankfully the day wasn’t a total lost because at least I wasn’t disappointed in the the clean up of my clothes. It was perfect timing when the Purex brand provided me with a sample of their new Purex plus Clorox 2 Detergent to review and it turned this dirty mess back into a nice clean set of clothes.

It would be wonderful if upon graduation a recruiter offered him a job right on the spot, but that may not happen even if he’s wearing a #HireMe tee!

Wilmington’s Newest Hot Spot Hosted “Politics Not as Usual” Fundraiser for Michelle Harlee
Tuesday evening I attended a Networking Fundraiser for Michelle Harlee who is running for City Council 4th District in Wilmington, DE. The event was hosted at one of the newest hot spots in town, the Merchant Bar
Arriving a little after the official start time of 5:00 p.m, the Merchant Bar was already filled with many of Wilmington’s movers and shakers including President of City Council Theo Gregory; Councilman-At-Large Justen Wright; Councilman Darius Brown; Councilwoman Hanifa Shabazz; and Councilman Bud Freel.
Lite bites and laughter was definitely on the menu with a few Mayoral Candidates stopping in to support and share in on the fun.
Wilmington’s Mayoral Candidates Theo Gregory; Norman Griffiths and Eugene Young were in attendance as well as Council members, Rysheema Dixon; Erin Hutt and Emanuel Mc Gruder.
Shaking hands, smiling and taking selfies with Michelle were many members of her family including Michelle Sharon, Khary and Nichelle DeWitt, her sisters Beverly Williams, Diane Young and her longtime childhood friend Pierangeli Bronson.
In addition to Michelle’s family who also plays a significant role in her campaign and are affectionately known as “Team Harlee” were Greg and Gisele Barksdale, Barbara Boyer, Norma Lee, Frank Hawkins, Jim Minor, Deirdre Jackson, Debbie and Dominique Sipple, Faith and Tanya Williamson.
As the evening progressed several local residents from the 4th District stopped by including Downtown Business owners Craig McLaurin and Terrone Warren.
Supporters of Michelle as well as many others patron who came in after work kept the Merchant Bar quite lively and active well after I left at 7:00 p.m.
However, before the end of the event, Michelle took a few minutes to thank all of those who had come out in support of her campaign.

Last Saturday I had an opportunity to tag along with Stephen Wilkerson, one of the owners of Sozo Signature Mobile Salon. He was at the Sandy Cove Women’s Ministries Retreat in Northeast Maryland, contracted to provide hair and makeup services for many of the women that were participating in one of the programs.
When I arrived, makeup artist Keturah Braithwaite was finishing up the face of very lovely woman. Her makeup was flawless and she couldn’t resist telling me how blessed and beautiful she felt.
However, in less than 5 minutes after my arrival this well designed and plush mobile Hair Salon was packed with more than almost a dozen more attendees from the retreat. A few had arrived before their evening meal for a facial or to have eyelash extensions applied, others had come for hair and makeup before their scheduled professional photo shoot.
I took the opportunity to interview and record their thoughts upon entering the mobile salon and they were all very complimentary and excited. It was a beautiful sight to see all these wonderful Christian women on this coach laughing and enjoying themselves while being pampered by Stephen and Keturah.
Stephen had popped in a CD and the vocals of Christian recording artist Keturah Duncan was filling the mobile salon. As the ladies relaxed and enjoyed listening to the music, who should knock on the door a few minutes later…none other than Keturah herself!
Keturah is from Philadelphia and is such a nice and gracious woman. She smiled, laughed and posed for many pictures as well as autographed several of the CD’s that were purchased by the ladies.
I had never seen anything like this…the transformation of these women not only that of their hair and makeup but also in their inner beauty and attitude. It was by far a wonderful sight to see and I do appreciate Stephen for giving me an opportunity to tag along and witness it.
Now if you don’t know about Sozo Signature Salon let me be the first to tell you that to me it is by far the best mobile hair salon on the East Coast. Owned and operated by Stephen and his wife Gina Wilkerson. They offer a Signature Bridal Experience Package, but the services are not limited to only weddings.

Food and lots of it…friends and fun was the best way to spend the last Friday in April, not to mention it was at the Buena Vista Mansion in New Castle.
Having recently met Amy and Kim, MOT Charter High School parents and PTO members, I was invited to attend their 1st Annual Small State, Small Bites Food Competition & Silent Auction.
This event was held at the Buena Vista Mansion and sponsored by ConnectTheDot, a Consulting, Marketing and Advertising Agency.
Had the weather been a bit warmer, it would have been nice to walk the grounds, unfortunately we were once again treated to an unseasonably cold April evening. However, inside the Mansion things were definitely warm, delightful and delicious!
The doors opened at 6:00 p.m. and I walked through this gorgeously decorated Mansion taking pictures, making mini videos, networking and nibbling all before the opening remarks by PTO President Kim McNeil.
As attendees began arriving, which by the way, was far more than I could count and way more than they expected, made this fundraiser a smashing success!!!
The Registration Table contained a brochure with the order of the evening’s events and each attendee also received a take-away bag with a “Tasting Card” attached.
There were 10 tables of Small Bite Tastings and although I didn’t take the opportunity to sample something from each, what I did taste was amazing.
Chefs from the 10 following local restaurants prepared delicious bites that everyone seemed to enjoy so I can only imagine how difficult it was for the judges, who were sequestered on the 2nd floor to choose the winner.

DJ “The Man of Steel” played a mix of music that was perfect for the taste testing and Silent Auction portion of the event. As I was leaving I could hear the sounds of “let’s get this party started” music but since I had to conduct a Blogging Workshop Saturday morning I didn’t stay to enjoy it.
There were 12 Silent Auction items in which to bid on including a Crow Farm & Vineyard Winery Tour; Casino Night; Baltimore Package, Fitness Package, Spa Package; Golf Package and of course several Restaurant Packages.
Photographer, Ralph Mallamace and I became fast friends and we enjoyed taking snap shots of the guests and also of each other!
I missed the announcements of the “People’s Choice” winners and closing remarks but am sure you can read them on the ConnectTheDot and MOTCharter websites.
As I had previously stated, this was by far a smashing success and I hope to be in attendance at the 2nd Annual Small State, Small Bites Food Competition and Silent Auction.
Maybe next time I’ll be invited to be a judge like I was at the Burger Battle, then I’ll have more of an opportunity to taste test everything!
