Preserve Your Memories with YesVideo

This review & giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and YesVideo. I received the featured service free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Hello friends, I hope all is well in your world.

For me, the countdown is on with Malik leaving for Bowie State University on Wednesday, and the pit in my stomach steadily growing. Where did those 18 years go? It seems like it was just yesterday when we brought him home from the hospital, a newborn, dependent on me for everything. Those memories are so very important which is why I recently had 3 videos transferred from VHS to DVD by YesVideo.

As you can see I have a lot of 8mm tapes as well as a bunch of VHS tapes in the basement so choosing only 3 proved to be bit of a challenge. Naturally, after celebrating our 24th Anniversary last week I wanted to transfer the Wedding Video because this tape brings back so many happy memories as well as tears.

My sister Gloria, who was my Maid of Honor and Ed, hubby’s Best Man are now both deceased, as are many other relatives including my grandmother and his mother so I definitely wanted to preserve that tape.

The other two tapes that I chose included Malik’s first few days home from the hospital and Tayair’s reaction to him which is hilarious.  Seeing Tayair play with his father and watching my grandmother play with the boys is heart warming.

Birthday parties for them as well as for my grandmother, their great-grandmother, were truly some special times. Opening presents on Christmas morning before Santa was unmasked had some laugh-out-loud moments and now we get to watch them not only on a DVD but also online.

These memories can also be shared with other family members and friends via a link attached in an email or to a Facebook page.  You know who will be getting a link in their email while away at Bowie!

One thing that really surprised me while viewing the videos online was the quality of the original VHS tapes.  YesVideo did a great job with the transfer and they even included a bonus feature of music video clips, but the quality of the originals were really bad.

You don’t realize that after 18-24 years of storing what was once modern technology appeared to be as old as an episode of “I Love Lucy!” Therefore, I will definitely be ordering more VHS to DVD transfers.  We had a wonderful time sitting together as a family laughing AND crying while watching these priceless family moments.

The DVDs are divided into chapters with mini pictures on the cover so that we can easily choose what “episode” that we want to see or share.

Will You Cry If I Die? | Random Thought

I’ll admit it, I am a big cry baby, I used to cry at the drop of a hat, but then again I’ve had a lot to cry about over the years.  My husband, not so much. I can count on 1 hand just how many times I’ve seen him cry and I think the number may be close to if not zero, he said it has been more, but I’m talking about “boo hoo” crying.

Our oldest son is just like him, he would drop a few tears every now and then if he got into trouble as a young kid.  Now, my youngest son, had he been a girl, I would have dubbed him a “Drama Queen”.  Like me, he can cry in a New York minute, mostly to get out of trouble, but I’ve seen him cry at funerals so some of those tears have been genuine.

I want to ask my husband and oldest son, “will you cry if I die?”

Will You Cry If I Die?

 I guess I should go ask them…hold on…I’ll be right back…

Please Stand By

…Okay, I’m back and they both said, “yes” but not until after they looked at me as if I had two heads! I told you, it was just a random thought!

Goodnight!

Thankful Thursday

Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday

This week there are several things for which I am thankful and of course it begins with my family, friends and faith.  I am also thankful that my youngest son is learning a few hard lessons while still at home.  Ever since we gave him a car he has tried to add options to jazz it up, some good…others not so much.  The latest was a set of rims that he received from a friend that I told him not to put on, did he listen? Nope.  Unfortunately, they were too large for his vehicle so he had to pay our mechanic to remove them! #hardhead

Early Monday morning, he slowly followed  me to Middletown Car Care to drop it off and then I had to drive him to school.  Needless to say, it was early morning and you know I am NOT a morning person!

I was not happy nor was he because he had to take my pictures!  Oh well, a small price to pay for the cost of having to have those dang tires taken off his car!  #teenagers

I am also thankful that my son understands that even though I nag him, I do it only because I have his best interests at heart.  Does your children appreciate your nagging, nope, but are you thankful for the nagging your parents did with you?

Tracking Teenage Drivers

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday

*

As the mother of a teenage driver I am always on pins and needles every time he grabs his keys and leaves the house.  There is just so much they can learn in a classroom setting and even with the mandatory driving hours that are required with a Graduated License, once they are on the road alone it can become a life or death situation.

BLM Girls Weekend 070

Some teenagers are extremely careful and patient drivers, others not so much and unfortunately I have the latter.  I’ve explained to him that driving is a privilege and he should remain ever vigilant when he’s behind the wheel.  There are just too many RIP Markers on the sides of the road and a few of you know that I lost my sister in a car accident on September 14th 1992.

I have argued, nagged and yelled at him to drive slowly and also threatened him with the loss of his car, keys and driving privileges if ever stopped for speeding.

It goes in one ear and out the other and so I think the time has come for more drastic measures.  Hubby brought home information from the website Teen Tracking, a plug and play GPS monitoring system and I am seriously considering buying one.

According to the website The Big Brother GPS Locator/Tracker “allows parents to keep a close eye on their new teen drivers. Notifications on speed and boundary violations. Easy 2-wire installation. Installs under dash for covert operation. PoweredbyGPS® technology.”  The cost is hefty but the piece of mind is priceless and definitely cheaper than the increase to our monthly car insurance rates!

Has anyone purchased this Teen Tracking monitor or is there another GPS Tracker that you would suggest?

OOTD – Politically Incorrect President’s Day

Hello Friends and Happy President’s Day 2013

Lucky lucky you if you are home today on holiday because “it’s as cold as a witches’ tit”!   I remember that as being one of my mother’s favorite sayings during those cold New York winters.  Do you remember any crude statements that your parents or grandparents liked to say way before it would be considered politically incorrect? (careful)

In honor of President’s Day I was going to wear Red with Blue and White Polka Dots but it’s just too cold.  Instead I chose the warm and cozy flannel shirt that my son put in the “to be donated” box but never made it, a thrifted khaki skirt and knee high boots – it’s all about keeping warm!  I like these boots because they can be worn full length showing the brass studs or folded over to reveal the leopard print – two styles in one for less than $20!
