WOW – I can’t believe that I am still struggling with weight loss and menopause!
(REPOST FROM 2013)
The Freshman 15 is nothing compared to the Menopause 20! In college I could skip a meal and lose 5 pounds, now if I look at a piece of bread I gain 5 pounds.
The Personal Summers were handled with portable fans and cotton clothing;
The absence of menses was happily welcomed and handled;
The dryness was handled with personal lubricants like K-Y® YOURS+MINE , Poise and a patient hubby;
The mood swings were handled with red wine Moscato and an understanding family
The weight gain is NOT BEING HANDLED WELL
A woman’s body is constantly going through changes, some of them good, others not so much. I’m in the 4th 5th year of menopause and was handling it well until the extra pounds began to increase my body mass index (BMI). Initially I blamed it on the stress of caring for my grandmother before her death in 2009; then I blamed it on kicking a 30-year smoking habit; then on the snow storm of 2010, and the chips I ate while watching the flakes fall. Next it was the long commute, 3 hours a day back and forth to work. I would walk in the afternoons and on the elliptical in the evenings but it wasn’t enough to burn the necessary calories or speed up my metabolism. Zumba is fun but I haven’t lost a single pound, I did however, twist my knee and realize that I’ve lost all of my rhythm!
I used Sensa, lost 10 lbs, put it back on, joined NutriSystem, lost 20 lbs, put it back on, cleansed with lemonade laced with cayenne pepper, went carb and sugar free – I hate the bathroom scale! I’ve gone to the doctor, had my thyroid checked, drink shots of ACV with water after each meal but the pounds refuse to leave.
I’ve tried eDiets, me diets, ABC diets with no success. To say it’s frustrating would be an understatement and I’m getting desperate to lose the “Menopause 20”, and refuse to give up the challenge!
Medical reports state that weight gain during menopause is not uncommon or even my fault, that it’s hormonal and I need to increase the intensity of exercise, (where is Richard Simmons when you need him), and decrease the intake of certain foods and beverages. So no more Sriracha flavored chips and beer, Triscuits and Cabot cheese or Mexican and Chinese takeout, a sacrifice that I am willing to make.
Tomorrow I fill the grocery cart with lots of fresh fruits, veggies and fish in an attempt to rid myself of the Menopause 20 – wish me luck!

I know…I know…everyone is talking about eating right and losing weight but as we all know words means nothing – action means everything! So mark my words, I am going to start the new year eating healthier, drinking more water, less wine and incorporating the Slimfast Advanced Nutrition meal bars, shakes, smoothies and 100-calorie snacks into my meal plan.
I will begin my day with a nutritious and delicious Meal Replacement bar while commuting to work and this Dark Chocolate Sea Salt bar not only fills me up while on the road but it also tastes great! This Advanced Nutrition bar contains 10 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 18 vitamins and minerals and is Gluten Free and when you mix chocolate with sea salt, there’s definitely going to be a party in your mouth!
My second meal will be replaced with a Creamy Chocolate, High Protein Meal Replacement Shake along with a piece of fresh fruit and water. I love my shakes cold so I will either pour it over ice or put the bottle in the freezer about 30 minutes before drinking. This high protein shake contains only 1 gram of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, 24 vitamins and minerals, contains antioxidants, and is both Lactose and Gluten free.
And of course, when the 3:00 o’clock munchies hit, instead of hitting the vending machine for a bag of chips, I will grab a pack of these light and crispy 100 Calorie Snack Baked Crisps. If you like sour cream and onion you will love these, a lite and tasty treat containing 2 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber will satisfy your hunger between meals.
Once home at the end of the day, dinner will be a healthy meal consisting of a little protein, a few carbs and of course fresh veggies, most likely a salad which is my favorite and of course more water.
Other than the convenience of packing Slimfast products for work during the week, having a large assortment of flavors keeps my taste buds from getting bored.
What is your favorite healthy snack?

Hello friends,
well it has been a little over two weeks since I started my weight loss journey and am proud to report that I am down 4 lbs already – Yay me! I’m not one who likes to weigh in every day even if it’s thought to be more of a motivator if you do.
We keep our bathroom scale downstairs in the powder room which is another reason why I don’t step on it daily – “out of sight – out of mind” Now that we have the Eat Smart Precision MaxView Digital Scale I am more inclined to do so not only because it’s so precise, but because it has a large LCD display that I can read without my glasses.
I let Tayair try out the scale first and was shocked to see that since his surgery he had lost 8 lbs, but was more shocked when I stepped on it and realized that I must have found them! That is definitely more of a reason to put down the wine and bread and pick up the dumbbells and jump rope.
I like this EatSmart Precision MaxView Bathroom Scale and have decided to move it upstairs into our bathroom as more of an incentive to reach my goal weight before my 53rd birthday on the 20th.
The EatSmart Precision ViewMax Bathroom Scale has a 400 lb capacity, and comes with 2 year Guarantee. The scale requires 2 AAA batteries which are included and it was ordered and shipped quickly from Amazon.com.
What motivates you to keep your weight in check?

Hello friends,
if you’ve spent anytime in the car listening to the radio, I’m sure you’ve heard the commercials for Raspberry Ketones. They are advertised as being a proven fat burner and appetite controller, even Dr. Oz has labeled them “Fat Burner in a Bottle“
I now have an opportunity to try them after ordering a bottle from Summit Nutritions via Amazon.com. I plan on beginning the regiment on August 20th, exactly 1 month before my 53rd birthday at which time I will post the results.
Raspberry Ketones are FDA approved and are designed to burn body fat which is then converted into energy. One tablet taken twice a day, 30 minutes before a meal will act as an appetite suppressant. This combined with a balanced diet (no more brownies and cakes) along with regular exercise I should lose weight, wish me luck!

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday
As we get older our bodies starts to change, some changes are for the better others not so much. The metabolism slows down as well as the digestive track especially if you don’t eat the FDA’s Recommended Daily Amounts of fruits and vegetables.
I love fruits and veggies and eat them everyday but I know it’s not nearly enough so I have to include vitamin supplements. When IVL Products partnered with Sverve I immediately signed up to be part of the campaign. I knew that I needed to add more fruits and vegetables to my diet and this would be an excellent opportunity in which to do so with All Day Energy Greens. Using the 2 week supply as an add-in to my morning Green Shakes and Smoothies would give me the boost that I needed.
I must admit that the taste wasn’t as pleasant as I would have liked and it made me a little gassy, but for what it’s worth, I was as regular as a new wound watch for 2 weeks!
I also liked the convenience of the individual packs this little green drink comes in because when running late in the morning, I would just throw a pack into my purse and dash out the door. Once in the office I would use my shaker bottle or portable blender to mix it in with juice, water/ice or just with plain yogurt.
The best part of the two week trial was that I lost 3 lbs without altering my diet or exercising! #winning

Today is the first day of my weight loss program with Nutrisytem and I am extremely excited, really looking forward to not only losing pounds and inches but once again concentrating on portion control. I am not going to bore you with daily updates on what I ate or how many pounds I did or did not lose, I just want to feature my look on Day 1 so that at the end of the month we’ll all see a noticeable difference.
I will wear this dress again on Day 28

On Monday I will begin another month on Nutrisystem.
I started the program in February and lost 10 lbs, then deferred the next shipment for 30-days and have kept the weight off. I will never look like Janet Jackson because I don’t have a personal trainer to compliment the program but my goal is to lose another 10 lbs.
The Nutrisystem program is easy to follow and the foods taste good but the hardest part for me is to drink 8 glasses of water daily.
