Friday night I attended “High Heels in High Places” which was presented by NABFEME, the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment, Inc. This FREE event was held at the Nemours Building in Wilmington and was sponsored by Sisterent.com.
Johnnie Walker, President and CEO of NABFEME kicked off the evening with a brief description and stated the the mission of NABFEME, which “was created to be a vehicle of support that would increase the awareness and raise the profile of minority women in entertainment.”
Demia Avery, owner of Avery Sisters Entertainment was the MC and sat on the dais with 10 empowered women representing industries and positions that included: Sales and Hospitality; Entrepreneurship; Authors; Music and Concert Promotion; Fashion; Life Empowerment Coach; Entertainment Attorney; and Recording Artists.
Friend and owner of Mejah Books, Emylyn DeGannes was one of the panelist, and you may remember her from a previous feature on my blog (click here).
This 3-hour interactive event was a “power surge” from ladies-in-the-know to help others grow. The audience participation was lively with great questions and observations as well as few light hearted comments from a man in attendance.
“Don’t Try It – Just Do It” was one of the well received catch phrases, “Mentors Are Angels in Disguise”; “Live Out Your Passion and You’ll Never Work” and “Stand and Be Still – With God Nothing is Impossible” were the major themes throughout the night and struck a cord with many of the attendees.
The evening ended with networking, exchanging of cards and group photos. It was a great event and I would like to thank Avery Sister Entertainment for bringing NABFEME to Wilmington and look forward to other empowering events in Delaware.
Thanks to all my fabulous bloggy friends and followers and Congratulations to the winner of the Avon Collection Giveaway

If you are the parent of a high school student who will be attending the prom this year, you’ve probably heard about “Promposals“. If not, let me explain, a promposal is when a guy, or girl asks someone to the prom but in a unique way using a sign, clothing, a prop or a photo.
These teenagers can get really creative with songs and videos and there are even promposal pics on Instagram and Tumblr as well as Twitter, Facebook and of course YouTube, just Google it using the hashtag #promposal.
A few weeks ago when I first heard about this, I rushed home to ask my son, but I was too late as he had already promposed to his date. (and no, that wasn’t a bottle of alcohol).
Promposal @ AppoHigh
I think they are cute as long as the teens don’t go overboard or take them too seriously like a marriage proposal. Over the top promposals are not necessary and may cause stress to others who may not want to or can’t do them.
Senior Proms are a special once-in-a-lifetime event but they are also costly, so there’s no real need to add additional expenses into the mix.
What do you think?
Don’t forget to come back at 6:00 p.m. for the Weekend Wind-Down Party!

I am writing this post Saturday night a few days before hubby’s surgery, and deep in my heart I know that he will do well and all the cancer will be removed. #InJesusName and for that I will forever be THANKFUL.
(UPDATE – CANCEROUS TUMOR WAS REMOVED WEDNESDAY MORNING AND THERE IS NO SIGN THAT IT SPREAD!!!!!)
I am also thankful for being chosen as a Featured OWNer for the Oprah Winfrey Network, you can read the entire feature here and I would appreciate a comment as well.
I love most of the shows on the OWN Network and The Haves and Have Not is currently my favorite, I even wrote a post about it when it first debuted, remember this (click here).
This week as always, I am thankful for my family, friends and faith. I am also truly thankful for all of you and for your well wishes and prayers! Being a blogger with followers and friends such as yourselves is truly something to be thankful for.
Now it’s your turn, what are you thankful for this week?
Last Thursday I was up bright and early, well it actually wasn’t that bright, but it was early. I wanted to welcome in Spring and get a jump on wearing less clothing, mostly in particular no tights or hose.
After dressing quickly I rushed to the door to check out the weather, although there was still snow on the ground it wasn’t blustery cold as it had been only a few days earlier.
“Hey Spring, come on in, stay awhile, we’ve missed you!”
It felt good not to have to wear tights or hose and to be able to put on a short sleeve T-shirt was even better. I purposely thrifted this black T-shirt after seeing Ms. Looking Good in her white one. Prior to reading her post, I would have never thought to wear a t-shirt with a skirt or even to work, but I like the look – what do you think?
You remember these thrifted black patent leather ankle shoes. The geometric skirt was a clearance sale bargain from JC Penney. The necklace and earring set is from Jewelrymax.net, they have some great costume jewelry.
Have you ever been inspired by another blogger’s outfit?
What are you looking forward to shedding from your winter wardrobe?
I don’t know about you, but for some strange reason this week seemed to fly by! Today is the first full day of Spring and hopefully it will stick around just as long as ‘ole Man Winter did!
Welcome to this week’s Weekend Wind-Down Party, I am looking forward to finding some great light recipes to help jump start my “Spring Shedding of the Winter Weight Season” – lol!
Congratulations to this week’s Featured Bloggers, we are truly happy that you are participating and have linked back to us. There were some really awesome recipes, blogging tips, fashions, and spring cleaning challenges.

It is now officially Springso this is going to be the last of the heavy Crock Pot meals. It’s time to start eating lighter as we begin to shed the layers of clothing.
This Friday Foodie Feature was made before St. Patrick’s Day which is why I didn’t cook Corned Beef and Cabbage on Monday – too much red meat is not good for you.
