Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday!
Last weekend we finally got a break in the cold winter weather with temperatures rising above 50 degrees, it felt almost summer like after all that freezing snow. In celebration of the warm weekend I decided to wear this bright yellow twin-set sweater to church on Sunday – whew, that’s a mouthful!
I paired the thrifted sweater set with yet another thrifted find, a brown striped skirt.
These Romance Soles kitten heel pumps were another fantastic thrifted find and if you remember, I also got them in Navy Blue. This was the last post in which I wore them (click here).
The beaded necklace was a clearance purchase from Rugged Wearhouse for ($1.00) – #winning
This Rosetti purse was not thrifted, however, it was purchased from a Flea Market vendor in Florida for less than $20.00.
So what do you think about this week’s “I Got It @Goodwill” totally thrifted outfit (minus the accessories)?

Disclosure: I received this item free of charge from Midnight Velvet. No monetary compensation was received or offered, all opinions are 100% my own.
Growing up in Dover I remember getting excited every time a Midnight Velvet catalog came in the mail. As soon as one arrived my grandmother and I would snuggle up on the sofa and flip through each page. She loved the large colorful church hats, and I loved the shoes, jewelry and decorative tops. I liked seeing the beautiful clothing the models wore, but always secretly wanted an animal print bedroom set, however, I knew my grandmother would have said, “no”.
I still love looking through the pages of a Midnight Velvet catalog, and now I have an opportunity to review a product from their Spring 2014 catalog. Of course I thought of my grandmother, knowing she would have been excited for me and wished I had chosen one of those big, colorful church hats.
However, for this review, I selected the Monte Carlo Gold Caftan. It arrived in a zebra print box which I’ll definitely re-purpose later. I loved that it was exactly as pictured in the catalog and fit perfectly. The Caftan is two pieces with a machine washable polyester tank underneath. Extra sequins are included for the nylon top which only needs to be spot cleaned.
The Monte Carlo Gold Caftan is perfect for a night out on the town with hubby or perhaps to a special church event which I know my grandmother would have liked.
Midnight Velvet has fresh new Spring confident styles for a beautiful you and your home. Check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, and Pinterest, and be sure to follow their Beauty Blog for the latest fashions, styles and trends.

Hello Friends and Happy Fri-Yay!
This week’s Friday Foodie Feature is Slow Cooked Gumbo
Now there were a lot of ingredients to this dish and I only made it because it was a snow day, and it was listed as one of the Super Foods for Seniors.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 package of frozen peppers and onions
- 3 medium celery stalks, chopped
- 2 lbs skinless, boneless chicken thighs cut into chunks
- 1 package frozen Okra
- 4 small ears of frozen corn
- 1 1/2 cups of Chicken Broth (or use boullions in warm water)
- 1 package Turkey Sausage
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1 package 10-20 count frozen shrimp – shelled and deveined
- White rice for serving
I purchased the wrong type of shrimp, make sure to get them deveined otherwise you will be removing shells as you eat them. I also wanted to try Crawfish so I purchased a bag from Walmart and added a few to the Gumbo.
If using fresh veggies, dice them into small bite sized pieces
In a 6 -qt saucepan, mix oil and flour on low heat, whisking until brown
To the mixture add the chopped/frozen veggies stirring to coat
Cut chicken and sausage into chunks
Put veggie mixture into Crock Pot
Add chicken, sausage, okra and corn, then pour in broth. Sprinkle cayenne pepper, cover and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4 or until chicken is cooked thoroughly to 165~.
Once chicken is cooked, add shrimp and crawfish, if you want, thaw shrimp and crawfish in a cold water bath. If cooking on low, increase to high until shrimp and crawfish are done – approximately 10-15 mins.
Because there were so many Crawfish in that package, I boiled the remaining ones in Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning, and they were good. Malik and I tore up these mini-lobsters!
Have you ever eaten a Crawfish?
Don’t forget to come back for the Weekend Wind-Down Party (#WWDParty) beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST

Hello Friends and Happy Thankful Thursday
Did you know that heart disease is the biggest killer of women, more than breast, ovarian and cervical cancer combined. The scariest thing about heart disease for women is that over 64% of them who die suddenly of a heart attack had no previous symptoms.

Heart disease is caused by plaque in the blood vessels which was once very hard to detect. This plaque clogs the arteries and makes the heart a ticking time bomb. Now a new breakthrough discovered by a cardiologists at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has made detection easier.
In women not all heart attacks look like that of a man clutching his chest in pain. For women the warning signs are more subtle and may be confused as being menopausal symptoms, but they should not be ignored:
- Sweating – excessively drenched in perspiration
- Nausea or Dizziness – you may vomit or feel like you want to pass out
- Breathlessness – 58% of women report panting or inability to carry on a conversation
- Sleeplessness – in the month before a heart attack, 50% report having trouble sleeping
- Anxiety – a sense of doom or fear, your body is telling you something, trust those instincts
Paying attention to these signs and getting proper medical care can be the difference between life and death, so please make an appointment to see your physician.
“Go Red for Women” and protect your heart by living healthy:
- Quit Smoking
- Consistent Exercise
- Manage Stress
- Eat Healthy
- Take the heart healthy checkup (here) to stay healthy for yourself and for your loved ones!
Stay Heart Healthy!

I am truly thankful for being an ex-smoker, for my wonderful family, friends and of course my faith.

Now it’s your turn, what are you thankful for this week?

Hello Friends and Happy Hump Day Wednesday!
Today’s totally thrifted outfit with the exception of the shoes was purchased at Goodwill. Each piece was purchased separately from a Goodwill store either in Middletown or Smyrna.
In my mind I saw this outfit fitting differently, but hubby said it looked okay, so I stayed with it. The sweater, top, and skirt were $3.75 each but I bought them during the 20% off sale, paying only $3.00 each, and the belt was 80 cents. #winning
The suede pumps are Chinese Laundry, purchased from DSW, and off-black pantyhose from Walmart.
I thought about using a different style belt, however, it wasn’t until I got to work that I decided to change the way I wore the belt. I put it around the top and not the sweater which made me feel and look less bulky.
What do you think, which way would you have worn it?
After work I met up with one of the 2014 Goodwill Runway Show models and found these Nine West booties which now makes this outfit totally thrifted.
You never know what you might find at your local Goodwill, look what I saw before leaving.
Unfortunately, they were a size 7, too small for my feet and at $250.00, were too big for my purse.
Today I am linking up with Whitney Nic James for her Snow Day OOTD and ColorBlind Thrifters Anonymous pick of the week.
