Donate Stuff, Create Jobs | Goodwill and The Ad Council
Most of you know that hubby will retiring this summer after 32+ years of service with the State of Delaware. Although he will be leaving the School District he won’t be leaving the workforce…at least not entirely. He may not know where the next phase of life will take him, he does vow not to have to wear a suit and tie again.
So with a closet full of them, where will they go after my sons have raided his closet, the answer is simple, they will be donated to Goodwill. Hubby may be leaving his job, but in donating his suits, ties, suspenders and shoes he will be helping to create jobs for others.
Using this online Goodwill Donation Calculator we can determine just how much our donations will be helping the community. For example, one man’s suit will provide 14 minutes of resume preparation and a pair of shoes will provide 19 minutes of the same.
Try it out for yourself as you pack up your donations.
You may not be leaving a job, but if your spring cleaning includes clearing out a cluttered closet to make room for more stuff, pack it up and donate it to Goodwill.
I’ll be the first to admit it, but hubby isn’t the only person that needs to clean out their closet…mine is due for some serious purging…need to make room for new shoes!

Hubby is quite dapper there! Hope he is on the mend
Yes, thanks just not sleeping too well this week.
He will get better 🙂
Yes…need some yard work done – lol!
Your hubby has some nice looking clothes. I know the next person will be grateful to have them
Yes, you know my youngest can’t wait to get in there first!
Yes, he always thought teachers and administrators in education should dress in a manner in which they are to be respected….unfortunately it didn’t always work which is one of the reasons why he is retiring!
Thank you for sharing.. It’s a good reminder. We often think that Goodwill is just a convenient place to unload our junk forgetting that it provides jobs! ~Stacy
Yes, which is why I am such a big supporter of GW. Hope you are having a wonderful week.
I never knew there was a calculator on Goodwill’s site to see how much your donations help the community. That’s pretty amazing.
Congratulations on your husband’s retirement. 32 years doing something you love is nothing to sneeze at. I do know one thing – looking at these photos, your husband was definitely styling it up at his workplace.
Yes, isn’t it great, you can calculate just how much your are helping others with your donations. Hubby was definitely a dapper dan who loved and looked good in his suits. His retirement couldn’t have come at a better time especially after his surgery for colon cancer…funny how life works. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a wonderful week!
So, you’re not the only one in your house ‘Styling & Profiling’. He sure has some great items in his closet not to mention a world of ties. Your Sons just hit the jackpot of suits and so will Goodwill. Did you write that “honey do” list yet? He will be up and ready to roll soon. . .
ssshhhh not so loud – he might think he’s got it going on! My youngest is more interested in the shirts and ties, so once hubby gives him access to the closet they may never make it to Goodwill! I have the “honey-do list”…in my head because unfortunately it’s now my list especially with our youngest graduating in May, there’s so much that I want to do inside and outside the house!
It’s great that you’re donating the suits. It’s definitely something that makes a job search difficult. If you’re unemployed it’s not easy to find the money to buy a suit or something smart that is neccessary for an interview.
So true, many people don’t understand the struggles that those who are less fortunate have to go through just to get a job interview or simply be respected.
That’s wonderful!!!!! But maybe hubby should keep at least one or two…You never know 🙂
Oh you know he will…Malik has already tagged what he wants – lol
hahaha, that’s so funny! 🙂 Have a fantastic weekend!
Will do…you too!
