Now that hubby has completed his chemo treatments the time has come for both of us to get back into our regularly scheduled workout routine. Last week we started getting up an hour earlier so that we can work out together before I head into work. Our exercise routine is done in the basement and hubby starts by lifting light weights to help him regain his upper body strength and I start out by walking on the treadmill or elliptical for 30 minutes to aid in my cardiovascular fitness as well as to prevent age-related bone loss.
After 30 minutes hubby and I switch, he hits the treadmill but instead of weight lifting I do some stretching exercises using the Balance Ball. I am not going to lie, but stretching has proven to be more difficult than I anticipated; however, I am not giving up because I have plans on signing up for an evening Yoga class in the Spring. Working out with hubby is one thing, but before venturing out to a Yoga class with a room full of people I wanted to make sure that I could stretch and bend without showing off my Depend® Silhouette® Active Fit Briefs.
You may recall from this previous post in which I stated that the combination of childbirth, surgery and aging all had weakened my bladder. But like most women, I strive to live my life uninterrupted especially when it comes to fitness and fashion which is why I only wear Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs for Women.
I really like that Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs are smooth under my clothes; have a thin design for complete comfort; are made of cotton-like fabric; come in beige and black and if you haven’t already noticed they are Yoga Pant Approved.
I always purchase my Depend Silhouette Active Fit Briefs for Women from Walmart so during a trip last week, I also picked up these yoga pants, top and a mat to keep me motivated and challenged to sticking with a workout routine.
Now I have a challenge for you, take a look at both of the pictures below and see if you can tell which picture shows me in a pair of Depend® Silhouette® Active Fit Briefs and which picture shows me in a pair of regular underwear.
Take the #yogapant challenge and enter your response to the contest below for a chance to win a Walmart activewear gift.
Disclosure: I am being compensated for participating in this campaign, however, all opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own. I am in no way affiliated with Depend and do not earn a commission or percent of sales.#yogapantchallenge!

Are you ready for the biggest game of the season? Well if not, then you better head over to your local Safeway to stock up on snacks, sodas and a chance to win $50,000 or an nflshop.com gift card.
On Sundays in our house especially during football season my sons are parked in front of the television watching the games and eating whatever I put in front of them. So when I was given an opportunity to recreate this Snickers® Blitz Dip from Mars®, I knew it would be a hit with the mini men.
Malik is home from college on a winter break and had been itching to get back behind the wheel so he enthusiastically agreed to drive me to Safeway. As soon as I walked into the store there was a large display so I immediately grabbed a few bags of Tostitos Scoops, a few jars of Chunky Salsa and several 12-packs of Pepsi before heading inside to get the ingredients to make the Snickers® Blitz Dip.
1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/2 cup chopped Snickers® bar – I purchased the mini bites so that we had plenty of leftovers!
Optional:
Apple slices for dipping
Steps (Directions):
1. Whisk together vanilla Greek yogurt and peanut butter. Stir in chopped Snickers®. Additional chopped Snickers® can be added to the top for garnish, if desired.
2. Serve with apple slices.
TIP: store the apples in an air tight container with a little lemon juice to keep them from turning brown, or slice them as needed.
Who doesn’t like a little salt with their sweet? This was definitely a hit with the mini men and I plan on making it again even after the football season ends.
So as you prepare to celebrate the Big Game 2016 with your family and friends, make sure to stop at your local Safeway to pick up the ingredients for this tasty sweet and salty treat, oh and don’t forget the Tostitos Scoops and Chunky Salsa to make it a winning day for everyone!
What are you planning to serve for the Big Game 2016?
I love snacking on finger foods but am more excited to see and tweet about the commercials and of course the halftime show. Do you know who will be performing this year?
Don’t forget to look for the Pepsi display and enter for a chance to win $50,000!
WOW – I can’t believe that I am still struggling with weight loss and menopause!
(REPOST FROM 2013)
The Freshman 15 is nothing compared to the Menopause 20! In college I could skip a meal and lose 5 pounds, now if I look at a piece of bread I gain 5 pounds.
The Personal Summers were handled with portable fans and cotton clothing;
The absence of menses was happily welcomed and handled;
The dryness was handled with personal lubricants like K-Y® YOURS+MINE , Poise and a patient hubby;
The mood swings were handled with red wine Moscato and an understanding family
The weight gain is NOT BEING HANDLED WELL
A woman’s body is constantly going through changes, some of them good, others not so much. I’m in the 4th 5th year of menopause and was handling it well until the extra pounds began to increase my body mass index (BMI). Initially I blamed it on the stress of caring for my grandmother before her death in 2009; then I blamed it on kicking a 30-year smoking habit; then on the snow storm of 2010, and the chips I ate while watching the flakes fall. Next it was the long commute, 3 hours a day back and forth to work. I would walk in the afternoons and on the elliptical in the evenings but it wasn’t enough to burn the necessary calories or speed up my metabolism. Zumba is fun but I haven’t lost a single pound, I did however, twist my knee and realize that I’ve lost all of my rhythm! I used Sensa, lost 10 lbs, put it back on, joined NutriSystem, lost 20 lbs, put it back on, cleansed with lemonade laced with cayenne pepper, went carb and sugar free – I hate the bathroom scale! I’ve gone to the doctor, had my thyroid checked, drink shots of ACV with water after each meal but the pounds refuse to leave.
I’ve tried eDiets, me diets, ABC dietswith no success. To say it’s frustrating would be an understatement and I’m getting desperate to lose the “Menopause 20”, and refuse to give up the challenge!
Medical reports state that weight gain during menopause is not uncommon or even my fault, that it’s hormonal and I need to increase the intensity of exercise, (where is Richard Simmons when you need him), and decrease the intake of certain foods and beverages. So no more Sriracha flavored chips and beer, Triscuits and Cabot cheese or Mexican and Chinese takeout, a sacrifice that I am willing to make.
Tomorrow I fill the grocery cart with lots of fresh fruits, veggies and fish in an attempt to rid myself of the Menopause 20 – wish me luck!

Is weight loss a challenge for you, if so, what is your strategy?

I love preparing fresh veggies, not only for dinner but also in a healthy salad for lunch. The reason why I chose to review the Michiyo’s Choice Vegetable Spiralizer was because I knew it was a product that would get a lot of use in my kitchen. As you can see from the following video, I had plans on using it to prepare dinner the same day that I had received it.Michiyo’s Choice Vegetable Spiralizer is great for making healthy meals even if you are not on a diet. Actually, the next time we have spaghetti I will probably use a squash instead of pasta to save on calories. This Vegetable Spiralizer also saves you time in the kitchen because you won’t have to slice, dice or julienne using a knife.
The Michiyo’s Choice Vegetable Spiralizer is packaged and shipped quickly from Amazon.com. It comes in anylon drawstring bag, is packaged with four, extra sharp blades with various cutting edges, please be careful when removing and inserting these blades.
The package also includes a small blade cleaning brush and a blade removal tool as well as an end cap to hold the veggies once they get too small to hold with your fingers. It is made of BPA-free ABS plastic, is dishwasher safe, compact, easy to store and would make a perfect addition to your or in a family/friend’s kitchen.
Before using the Michiyo’s Choice Vegetable Spiralizer for the first time, wash in warm soapy water and pat dry, also make sure to thoroughly wash vegetables and cut both ends. Use straight and firm veggies that are approximately 2.5” in diameter for better results. You can use carrots, squash, zucchini, or potatoes to make some great dishes, you will also receive a free eBook with recipe ideas like the one below.
ASIAN ZOODLE SALAD JAR
Serving 4 jars
Ingredients
1 medium zucchini
Kosher salt
1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 cup sugar snap peas, halved
1 can (14 ounces) mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup crunchy wonton strips
SESAME-GINGER DRESSING
4 tsp rice vinegar
4 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
1 tbsp sriracha
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp sesame oil
Directions
Make zucchini noodles: Using a spiralizer to spiralize zucchini into noodles (you can also thinly slice the zucchini into strips).
Lay zucchini noodles on clean kitchen towel. Lightly sprinkle with salt; let stand 15 minutes. Squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible.
Meanwhile, prepare Sesame-Ginger Vinaigrette: In small bowl, whisk together vinegar, soy sauce, peanut butter, ginger and sriracha. While whisking, slowly drizzle in olive oil, then sesame oil, until all oil is incorporated.
Divide Sesame-Ginger Dressing equally among 4 pint-sized mason jars. Divide zucchini noodles over dressing. Layer with bell pepper, snap peas and oranges. If not serving right away, top with lids and refrigerate up to 2 days (storing wonton strips separately).
When ready to serve, remove lid and pour off any excess moisture that may have come out of zucchini noodles (the dressing will remain in bottom of jar).
Pour onto plate or bowl, top with wonton strips, stir and enjoy.
Happy 2016 my friends, I am so super glad that we are all still together in “the land of the living”. As most of you know the 2nd half of 2015 got a bit rough for us after hubby was diagnosed with small intestinal cancer in March. Although he had surgery and the tumor was removed, little did we know that in less than 3 months later two additional tumors would appear on his liver and a lymph node.
This diagnosis came with the realization that he would have to undergo Chemo treatment every other week for 12 weeks and it was rough going for him. The poison that is supposed to kill the cancer also takes a toll on an otherwise healthy body but he did great. After his 6th chemo treatment the CAT Scan revealed that one of the tumors was undetectable and the other one had shrunk in size by 50%. Needless to say, we were both extremely happy.
I am not sure if you’ve ever had to endure a full day at a Cancer Treatment Center but it’s not fun and really boring, however, The Junior Board volunteers at this Helen Graham Cancer Center makes it better when they come around with a cart full of goodies all for .25 cents each. Now you know, it’s rare to find any place that sells full size snacks for only a quarter.
On our scheduled treatment days I would normally pack a lunch with a few snacks and we never really took notice of what was available on the cart. However, after this 6th treatment we decided a special treat was in order so we checked it out and decided on a Nature’s Bakery Fig Barwith both of us choosing the Blueberry flavor.
To my surprise they were really good and hubby and I were hooked, we even kept the wrapping as a reminder to locate stores that sold them when we would no longer be buying them at the Helen Graham Cancer Center.
You know me, I even posted pics of the Fig Bars on Instagram #foodie and then the following two weeks instead of purchasing one for each of us, I purchased two including the Strawberry flavor which was equally good. One evening after work I stopped in at Shoprite to pick up a few items for dinner and to my surprise there was a full display of the Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars in even more flavors.
It’s funny how life works…with hubby having only two more treatments it was great to not only find a store that carried the Fig Bars but even more amazing was an Instagram Contest that I had entered which was sponsored by @bunniekins I actually won!
I not only won one box of Fig Bars but five in my choice of flavors and you’ll never guess when they arrived – on a Monday, the final day of hubby’s chemo treatment and just a week before the New Year – a year that we pray will be cancer free and healthy!
Have you stated getting your tax documents together for the 2015 filing season or do you wait until the last minute? As a blogger I keep a log with all the pertinent receipts matched to each post, my travel miles as well as donation receipts so come April 15th, I am not sitting in a line at the post office waiting to mail my returns last minute.
I’ve done this before and can tell you from experience that waiting to file late not only makes you frazzled but it can cause mistakes which you definitely don’t want or need. However, even more importantly there are scammers out there preying on tax payers, so I wanted to share an article that I found at www.fool.com on the scams to watch out for in 2016.

Criminals want to take advantage of you. Find out what to look for.
Every filing season, taxpayers have to be on the lookout for con artists looking to run tax scams. With a variety of tactics at their disposal, these criminals find ways to get your personal information and look to turn it into cash. Let’s take a look at five of the most common tax scams that the IRS has highlighted in recent warnings to taxpayers.
1. Identity theft The most pernicious tax scam involves thieves stealing your personal information and using it to file false tax returns on your behalf. Crooks arrange to provide erroneous information on a return that will generate a refund that they can then intercept and take for themselves. Often, the scam goes unnoticed until you later file your legitimate tax return and the IRS informs you that a return has already been filed. The IRS has issued about 1.5 million personal identification numbers aimed at helping victims of identity theft, and it has also started a pilot program in certain states that allows people to get PINs even if they haven’t been victimized. For most taxpayers, though, the best defense is to protect your personal information as well as you can.
2. IRS impersonation Criminals work hard to try to trick and intimidate you into giving them valuable personal information. Some scams involve threatening emails or phone calls from people purporting to work for the IRS, saying that you could be arrested, have your license revoked, or even get deported if you don’t agree to comply with their demands. The IRS reminds taxpayers that it will never call to demand immediate payment, ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone, or threaten to bring in law enforcement officials. Nevertheless, these scams can be quite convincing.
3. Caller ID spoofing One tool that many criminals have in their arsenal of tricks is the ability to have your caller ID system display what appears to be a legitimate IRS toll-free customer service number. These scams often involve robo-calling systems and can include a combination of tactics, including related emails and phone calls purporting to be from other organizations like police or DMV. The IRS advises that if you’re ever uncertain, hang up and then call the IRS back at 1-800-829-1040. That way, a real IRS representative can confirm whether there’s a legitimate issue.
4. Bogus charitable organizations The end of the year brings a big uptick in charities asking for donations, and criminals have discovered that many people are willing to part with their money for what they think is a good cause. Earlier this year, four charities claiming to raise money for cancer victims were accused of fraud, with the FTC alleging that donors were taken for $187 million over a five-year period. Often, such charities have convincing names, but it’s important to go further to check that these organizations are legitimately registered with the IRS as tax-exempt non-profit organizations. This IRS website will let you enter the name of a charity to verify whether it’s legitimate and is still eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
5. Tax preparer phishing Not all scammers target individual taxpayers. In one scam, criminals send out emails to accountants and other tax preparation professionals, telling them that they need to update their information in order to keep using the IRS e-services portal. In the process, the con artists hope that unsuspecting accounts will provide their usernames, passwords, and electronic filing identification numbers. That information in turn can help the criminals impersonate tax preparers and seek to get personal information from clients and other individual taxpayers. Doing your taxes is hard enough without having to worry about tax scams. With plenty of crooks out there, you can’t afford to let up your guard. Knowing the tactics they use can help you avoid getting scammed.
Elaine S. Brown is a respected and enriching literary author. She has been requested by several book clubs and organizations to perform excerpts from her books with actors performing scenes from her novel and has done book signings at different book stores.
Elaine “Cissy” Brown grew up on the east side of Wilmington, Delaware, during a time of national integration and peaceful demonstrations. She is an original Wilmington native and graduated from Howard High School in the late fifties. This is where she began to cultivate her artistic passion for the theater, singing, and writing. As a teenager in the fifties, she wrote songs and performed with a local musical group and the only female singing do-wop group called the Marquettes. They recorded a demo in Philly, but declined an offer to go to Oakland California to expand on their musical career and became a local celebrity.
Deciding not to go to Delaware State College, Elaine moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey to pursue her singing career. She performed with local jazz musicians. Elaine also became a commercial photographer and was very successful capturing cameo shots of great musician such as Cannonball Adderly, James Moody, Archie Shepp, Cecil McBee and Alice Coltrane, to name a few.
When her only child was born, she put her singing career on hold and concentrated on writing poetry and novels in earnest… Secret Songs of Sara, her first attempt, is still available in print and online. Who Took the G Out of Glademore, is the writers’ second published work of fiction, and Love, Sex and Lies in the Hi-Rise, and is her current novel.
Mixing music, theater, poetry, and a resurgent interest in ‘African-American history’ has garnered Ms. Brown a keen insight into a bygone era reminiscent of simpler times. Ms. Brown has captured an eclectic repertoire of experiences that transcend into her characters and a literary genius that can be felt in her novels. She is prepared to continue sharing her wealth of experiences with future generations.
Elaine said “writing her books was a literary journal and her followers were there with her as she continues to create with her forthcoming books.”
AVAILABLE ON AMAZON
“The warning on the pamphlet states, “If you experience an erection for more than four hours, contact your doctor.” Many old men have died with smiles on their faces.
Love, Sex, Lies in the High-Rise is a gusty, explicit, sexual story of seniors and the lifestyles they carried over to their late sixties, seventies, and some eighties. Most of the seniors in Franklin Mews chose not to sit back and live a life of self pity and loneliness but to embrace the opportunity to have another chance at love, lust, eroticism, and passion in their final years.
In Franklin Mews, a senior high-rise apartment building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two tenants—Duke Wilson, seventy-eight, who has an extensive collection of jazz vinyls from Satchmo to Brownie, and Cebee Walker, seventy-three—find romance and love after some forty-odd years.
“Kill it, kill it, kill it, Duke,” Cebee cried, making reference to his strokes as he thrust harder and harder, bringing her to an exhausting climax.
In the community room, some of Duke’s friends and other men sit and fabricate stories of days gone by. They were pimps, preachers, and alcoholics. Some never change; one of his friends still lives the thug life, and the other has an obsession for porno movies and freaky sex.
We find a bit of amusement when Cebee’s best friend, Sug, asks her for the second time to accompany her to the emergency room at the hospital for them to remove the vibrator that got stuck in her vagina.
There are many stories in Franklin Mews about the tenants that would shock you. Maybe not. But Love, Sex, Lies in the High-Rise adds a new meaning to “growing old gracefully.
Baby boomers, now the real spice of life begins. No inhibitions, no rules, no guilt, just a whirlwind of erotic pleasure waiting for you.”

Last week while driving into work, I was listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show and one of the New Year Eve’s topics being discussed was the “top television shows of 2015”. Although I liked most of Nikki’s choices, I did however, have a few of my own.
#1 – The Walking Dead
Yes, I am a “Walking Dead Head” as I grew up watching all-things horror, everything from Saturday’s Creature Double Feature, The Outer Limits, the original Night of the LivingDead …”they’re coming to get you Barbra” and of course The Twilight Zone, which I am watching now and have been for the past 24 hours!
The Walking Dead keeps hubby and I glued to the tube every Sunday night wondering why no one wraps their arms, neck and legs in leather to cut down on the possibility of being bitten by a Zombie!
Not just because I LOVE Anthony Anderson, not just because I LOVE Laurence Fishburne and not just because I LOVE Jenifer Lewis but because I am glad that finally there is a comedy aka The Cosby Show that everyone can sit down to watch and really laugh out loud – LOL.
I must admit that it took me awhile to get used to the kids, especially the twins, but they grew on me as do most kids who are not related and Deon Cole cracks me up as Dre’s co-worker Charlie.
Okay where do I begin…Tarji P Henson and Terrence Howard are definitely my favorite on screen couple and this was way before they teamed up to be what is going to be their best small screen project ever. Not only did Lee Daniels a phenom, create a highly charged “sitting on the edge of your seat” show with A-List guest stars, he also created a following that has people Tweeting, Facebooking and blogging every week about Lucious, and Cookie Lyons as well as their 3 sons in the cut throat music industry.
And really, how do you not love Oscar winner Marisa Tormei as Mimi, the billionairess who not only loves hip hop music she also loves beautiful women and recently revealed that her character has breast cancer.
I like Tyler Perry’s Madea plays and movies, but I love Tyler Perry’s small screen hits, Meet the Browns, The House of Payne, For Better or Worse but most especially The Haves and The Have Nots #HAHN. Tiki Sumpter as Candace and her “drama mama” Hanna, her brother “Speedy” Benny; Judge “Can’t keep his pants on” Cryer, his wife Katheryn, their “drugie” son, Wyatt and “RIP” daughter Amanda.
Oh, but how can you not HATE “gangsta in Gucci” Veronica? Angela Robinson is playing her role to the max with her blindly-in-love-husband David and their “finally getting a back bone” son Jeffrey all which make up the cast of this great show on the OWN Network. I can’t wait for them to return to the network’s line up as they are now in their OWN LINE UP being booked and heading to jail!
I like Sunny on The Kitchen and Guy on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and of course my own YouTube feature, Brunch with Blake, but Chopped is my favorite because four chefs face off against one another to prepare a spectacular three-course meal consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert. I like the episodes featuring grandmothers, grandfathers and kids but the fun part is watching their creativity when it comes to using all the ingredients they are provided, sometimes even weird stuff like beef tendon balls.
At the end of each course, a panel of three guest judges “chops” one chef who fails to measure up in terms of taste, presentation and creativity and the last chef standing takes home $10,000.
